Two countries?

Taiwan Relations Act: "The act provides for Taiwan to be treated under U.S. laws the same as "foreign countries, nations, states, governments, or similar entities," thus treating Taiwan as a sub-sovereign foreign state equivalent.". Why would Taiwan be treated as a country in Wikipedia? I propose replace all reference to Taiwan as a country in this article.--The Master (talk) 17:12, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, this article concerning an act is supposed to reflect the de jure status of Taiwan rather than the de facto one. --Aisakano (talk) 08:33, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The text of the Taiwan Travel Act actually uses the word "country" in reference to Taiwan. Therefore, "country" would seem to reflect the de jure status, at least within the context of this act. 5. Visits to a country by United States Cabinet members and other high-ranking officials are an indicator of the breadth and depth of ties between the United States and such country.
