Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on July 8, 2008.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that Anita West, one of the presenters of Blue Peter, was on the show for such a short period that no footage of her exists in the BBC archives?

Tenure length

[edit]

When the new series begins, how often should the "Tenure length" column be updated? I think to update it after every should would be ridiculous, but what about once a week? Or once a month? Also it should be noted that the tenure length includes days when they did not appear in an episode, and even the break in the summer between series (because they were still contracted), so Andy Akinwolere's number doesn't rise from 729 (as of 25 June) to 730, it would rise to something like 810. Matthewedwards (talk contribs  email) 18:22, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I made it automatic with {{age in days}}. Dendodge|TalkContribs 21:01, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Duncan

[edit]

Why does Peter Duncan not have a number next to his name?

Just curious ...

Because he had two stints, that's why!

Dur!

Sandra Michaels

[edit]

Should she really be on this list? I don't see why she should be. Majorly talk 01:19, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd never heard of her and never came across her name when I prepared this for FL; however, whoever added it has supplied two references that look valid enough. Matthewedwards :  Chat  02:34, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at the refs; one is a link that doesn't mention her as far as I can see, and the other is the Radio Times. Is a presenter who presented one edition really needed on this list? Majorly talk 14:35, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Radio Times is a BBC publication and has been reprinted at BBC Online. The other reference, 29, is a flash based timeline. You have to go to April 1964, but the information is there. As this is a list of all presenters, I believe she should be listed, but am open to hearing from more people. Matthewedwards :  Chat  23:05, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added Sandra Michaels as a presenter after coming across her for the first time on one of the sources listed: the British Film Institute reference [60] which had the wrong link (my apologies - it's now been corrected). I must admit, I was intrigued and realised that her inclusion could be controversial, so researched further. Under the Wikipedia entry for Sandra Michaels herself, there are further details about her appearance on Blue Peter which might be of interest. I also added information about her television and acting career in general, and assume she is still alive...?

"Should she really be on this list?" Well, since it is a list of all the programme's presenters, and Sandra Michaels is documented as having presented the programme at least once, I feel the answer is yes, she should be. However, I appreciate where the first contributor is coming from with his/her question: unlike everyone else on the list, Michaels wasn't appointed as a long-term presenter, and didn't replace anyone on a permanent basis. This is why I didn't credit her as being presenter number 5. I also kept information information about Michaels to a minimum on this page so as not to upset the balance of the whole entry or draw attention away from all the other presenters.

Anita West is listed as presenter number 3, despite only presenting 16 editions. This raises the question, how long does a Blue Peter presenter have to serve before being acknowledged as a presenter? Since her time was so brief also (and her impending divorce probably frowned upon in 1962), it was only in 1998 that Anita West was accepted officially as such by the programme makers. Maybe in time Sandra Michaels' appearance will be recognised too - or maybe not?! I just thought I'd share a snippet of little-known television history which I found quite fascinating, having grown up in the Val, John, Peter and Lesley era.

There have been lots of presenters that have done only one or two episodes that are not on the list. Mollie King presented an episode. 80.195.241.201 (talk) 18:22, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sort problems in the Length column

[edit]

I fixed the syntax for {{nts}} and {{ntsh}} where I could. The unnamed parameter must be a number. Text causes an error. I did not fix the rows that use the {{age in days}} template as I do not have time to research the problem just now. –droll [chat] 04:17, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page formatting

[edit]

Not sure what's happened to this page, but recent edits have skewed the formatting. If someone has the time or the knowledge to fix the errors, it would help restore the page. TVArchivistUK (talk) 19:15, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

I believe the image at the top should be changed from Helen Skelton to Barney Harwood, I believe the photo at the top should be of the longest serving presenter - As Helen left the show this is now Barney Harwood. (W-E (talk) 14:06, 26 January 2014 (UTC))[reply]

I completely agree Matt14451 (talk) 19:28, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Please can Valerie Singleton's full tenure be listed she was official presenters part-time from September 1972 until October 20 1975 (Leilaanitavalerielesley (talk) 00:17, 27 April 2019 (UTC))[reply]

Propose move to Blue Peter presenters (list -> article)

[edit]

The history section in this article is extensive, and this is more of an article containing a list than a "pure"≤ list now. I don't know what happens to a Featured List if it becomes an article. --LukeSurl t c 18:50, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposing to tabulate presenter timeline

[edit]

Not for this first time, I've attempted to deal with the quite frankly useless timeline chart on this page, whose size makes it quite clearly unwieldy and nearly impossible to use for its only purpose, that is to easily discern the presenters who have appeared together (a situation that will only deteriorate further as more years are added). Rather than just remove it this time, I tabulated the information into a clearer form (that also takes up considerably less data), with a view for its intended function to continue in a workable and future-proofed manner. My edit can be seen here. For reasons I'm not clear on, Superman011 has decided to revert this edit, so I'm bringing here to discuss and hopefully find consensus to resolve the problem. I think you need to make sure other wikipedia users are happy first before changing it. Superman011 (talk) 12:15, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
