I'm a bit confused as a Wikipedia newbie. Is this the right page to be discussing edits to the article, or should it be on the Wikiproject Biography talk pages (which I used a couple of months ago)? Ptoye (talk) 11:09, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is the best place to discuss the article you should only go to Wikiproject Biography if you get no response here or if an issue cant be resolved. MilborneOne (talk) 12:45, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. First, I have to declare something of a conflict of interest as I am Miss Toye's nephew. I've been told off in the biog talk page for editing it myself - but someone has to. Second, I'm trying to get hold of a photo, but there may be copyright issues - it depends if I can trace the copyright holder of the original. I expect that the best photos will be those taken for publicity. As she started out in the 1920s, finding the current copyright holder (if they still exist) might not be too easy! Third, I am disappointed by the content of this article - it was obviously originally put together by a film buff (fair enough) who was unaware of the variety of her work. At the least it needs some sort of list of her stage work, if one can be compiled. I have a fair list here (from Debrett's People of Today and Who's Who). Fourthly, is the bit about the burglary really necessary? It reads like someone desperately trying to find something to add and has nothing to do with her work or life (except that it wasn't an enjoyable experience for her).
If I'm not allowed to edit it because of the COI, can someone who knows something about the stage please take it over?Ptoye (talk) 20:56, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK I appreciate your honesty about the COI, but the fact you have declared helps in that I see no reason why you cant add to the article, just make sure that everything has a reliable reference and if you are not sure it is better to just come back to this page and ask. COI is really about adding things that give a bias view of the subject and I dont think a list of her stage work properly referenced is a problem. MilborneOne (talk) 21:04, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm a bit busy at the moment, but hope to be able to do something constructive in September.Ptoye (talk) 08:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm back on air now, and have complied a sort of list of her career culled from entries in Who's Who and other such publications. Not helpful that they sometimes differ on detail. It'll take a LOT of research to get it 100% right. This raises two questions that I don't have answers to: (1) are there copyright difficulties? (2) do the discrepancies matter too much? If the answer to both is "no" I'll put it on the page.Ptoye (talk) 13:11, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If it is just a list made up from the different sources with factual information like names of plays and dates then it should not be a copyright problem. Just make sure that anything other than facts are just not copied directly from the sources. It does not harm to create notes for discrepancies you could say "Summer Love at the Brighton Playhouse from January 1900 to February 1900" then add source then add a footnote "source x gives then name of the Play as Summer Loving and not Summer Love". OK, I've taken your advice and added a whole load of productions. If you think it's too long or doesn't have the right sort of information please let me know. I think that there should be more Wiki links to theatres, plays, playwrights etc., but there isn't time at the moment. At least this gives a fuller account of her work!Ptoye (talk) 10:12, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know its a pain but really need to add the relevant references to each line rather than a general statement, it helps when unreferenced text is later added or the source of an individual event questioned. MilborneOne (talk) 18:59, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but it'll take a bit of time - it's taken me a couple of months to get the list together! Meanwhile, I hope it can stand as it is. I'm not sure how to reference the para about her archive - at the moment neither is catalogued and the references were given me personally by emails and phone calls. "Private communication" perhaps? Similarly the comment about her not having any biography (communicated to me and many of her friends and colleagues by Miss Toye herself, but not as far as I'm aware ever written down). Message for Ptoye. (I have no idea how this Wiki contact works - I would like to pass a message to Ptoye and hopefully this might work. If not, please tell me how to do it. Thank you.) I am trying to ascertain the connection between Wendy Toye and Ruby Ginner. I have read that Ginner taught dance to Toye, but I don’t know where or when, or what the circumstances were. Ginner was co-founder of the Ginner-Mawer School of Dance and Drama, with Irene Mawer. However, I can’t find any link between Toye and the G-M School. Can anyone help me please? Thank you.
