Fred Jones

[edit]

Wasn't there a Fred Jones briefly on this team? Active in Sgt. Fury #81 and disabled in same issue? 204.153.84.10 13:45, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image Image:SgtFury57.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was No Consensus. There is a clear consensus to merge the articles, but no consensus on the target. Personally I favor merging to Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos, but given that this proposal is over three years old with over two years since there was any discussion, it seems time to close it. One of the articles has already been boldly merged to List of Marvel Comics characters: M, so this proposal is clearly getting stale.NukeofEarl (talk) 16:43, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Neither Rebel Ralston, Dino Manelli, nor Happy Sam Sawyer are sufficiently independently notable to justify their own articles. As such, these three articles should be merged here. Neelix (talk) 16:12, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of minor Marvel Comics characters would be a more appropriate location.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 12:20, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Why? This article is far more specific. Neelix (talk) 14:27, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The focus of this article is about the team as a whole not its individual members.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:32, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Surely someone looking for information about a member of the Howling Commandos is likelier to be interested in the Howling Commandos than minor Marvel Comics characters in general. Neelix (talk) 14:11, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A simple wiki-link to the characters entry in the list, will suffice. Just as this article now links to character's article.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:26, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It should also be noted that several members of the Howling Commandos are already listed there.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:35, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am not suggesting that these characters should not be listed on the minor characters list; I simply believe that Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos should be the merge target and that the titles of the current character articles should redirect here, not to the minor characters list. Neelix (talk) 23:50, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I understand but think the titles should be redirected the character's entry on the list as if it was a stand alone article. Just as in the cases of Jacques Dernier or Jim Morita.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 13:10, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why redirecting to the minor character list makes the entry more like a stand-alone article, nor why such a resemblance would be desirable. In what sense is redirecting to the minor character list more benefitial than redirecting to Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos? I have already stated why the latter would be advantageous. I would recommend that the Jacques Dernier and Jim Morita redirect here as well. Neelix (talk) 15:06, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If I were looking for searching for info about Rebel Ralston I would type in Rebel Ralston and it would take me directly to his entry at the characters list and read about him just as if it were its own article instead of reading about the Howling Commandos as a whole with only passing mentions of Ralston.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 15:14, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos article can include the same character-specific information that you are suggesting should be included on the minor character list; there is no reason that the Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos article should only include passing mentions of each character. Neelix (talk) 14:44, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As I stated earlier I think the focus of this article should be the team as a whole not it's individual members. Perhaps you should solicit more opinions at WT:COMICS.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 22:07, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have made a request for comment here as you suggested. Neelix (talk) 12:11, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

General observations and comments:

  • Having the characters listed both here and on the List is not a bad thing.
  • On the List there is room, as currently laid out, for more that a single line of information.
  • This articles, as laid out, only allows for 1 line, if that, about the characters.
  • If the bulk of the information is going to wind up in the List and not here, that is the proper point of redirect.

- J Greb (talk) 13:53, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here's an alternate proposal: why not have a List of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Comandos characters? That would prevent the characters from being lost in a conglomeration of random minor Marvel characters while also preventing the Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos article from becoming too bloated with character-specific information. Neelix (talk) 14:52, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be okay with that.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 15:15, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Iffy at best since the other team/group lists amount to the same as a one liner bulleted list and are done for one of two reasons 1) "space" - taking a chunk out of an article with a large file size - and/or 2) complexity over "current" and "former" members. This isn't a larger article, nor is the members list long or complex. There is no good reason for splitting other than the assumption that reader keying in "Rebel Ralston" really wants the Howling commandos rather than the specific character. - J Greb (talk) 19:26, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Lists of characters should not only be one-liners or bulleted lists. Both List of Naruto characters and List of Tokyo Mew Mew characters are featured lists and both of them consist of paragraphical information. An entry on a minor character list has no chance of progressing to featured anything, but a list of characters in a tightly delineated group can eventually develop into a featured list. Neelix (talk) 14:10, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And I'm looking at the list articles that populate Category:Lists of DC characters by organization and Category:Lists of Marvel characters by organization which are closer to this than an anime or manga character list which are constructed primarily, if not entirely, of plot. - J Greb (talk) 18:18, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
True, although List of minor Marvel Comics characters is even more fully plot-driven. I can't see that as being a preferable option. Neelix (talk) 13:49, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
J Greb was the one who started that section and the List of minor DC Comics characters. If we are to do a merge of those characters, we should start sub-sections for it's members except for the major members of that group. Any objections? Rtkat3 (talk) 1:07, June 2 2012 (UTC)

Is it now Captain America and his Howling Commandos?

[edit]

Just saw "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and it looks like Cap's team has been positively declared to be the Howling Commandos. This seems like practical choice in that the movie is set in 2010+, making anyone who was in WWII at least 65+ years older than they were then. 172.5.154.148 (talk) 04:59, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. It'd just be added to the list at Howling Commandos. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:53, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
