"created the role"
[edit]I'm guessing from context that "created the role" actually has nothing to do with creating the role, but instead is some kind of specialized opera jargon that just means "first performed the role"?
Tristan and Isolde is an old story that has traditionally featured the character of King Mark. Zottmayr didn't create King Mark. Even in the context of Wagner's opera, it was Wagner who created all the characters (based on the traditional tale), not Zottmayr.
So if this is just supposed to reflect some very field-specific lingo that does not match common usage of the words, perhaps we could have some clarification or explanation of that. 108.51.137.137 (talk) 12:07, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
