In 1976, Gregg Allman was busted for drugs and was facing prison time. In exchange for immunity against prosecution, he testified against the person who was supplying him with the drugs -- his tour manager John "Scooter" Herring. Personal life

Urk. What a mess. I've removed the links to "pregnancy" and "miscarriage". They aren't really relevant to Gregg Allman's bio and linking every word with a corresponding Wiki article quickly turns a page into nothin' but blue links. There were several sentences that appear to have been inserted between, or tacked to the end of, previously existing ones. I fixed those and tried to reorganize the various marriages and children into a more coherent format. We jumped from his marriages to his children back to his marriages. I think Allman's children should either be discussed with each marriage, in a separate section, or not at all.

Really, the whole thing needs to be rewritten, IMO, but I don't have the time. --Fean (talk) 02:37, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I recall an article in "High Times" entitled "Snitcher Chic" showing Gregg Allman & Cher which stated that Gregg's lifelong friend had copped drugs for him and when Gregg was busted, he testified against his friend, getting the guy life in prison while getting himself off all charges. yeah I'm gonna delete this since it's definitely something the article can exist without it. "It must have significance to the article; the article should be incomplete without such a mention. The policy regarding this is laid out in the policy guidelines WP:HTRIV and WP:UNDUE, where it is specified, among other things, that items in an article must meet criteria of significance or meaning and not be merely vaguely interesting peripheral matters." I'm certainly no expert at referencing, but even my meager knowledge leads me to believe that this page was very poorly sourced. I have removed the "<ref></ref>" from around several "cits." They do not cite references, only restating the info in more detail, and leaving the basic statements unsupported. If I am in error, please feel feee to revert. I have to attend to another problem in the real world, but will return to this article today to fix my new error created. Death

At 4:30 pm I read:

Allman died in his home in Savannah, Georgia on May 27, 2017. He was 69. He died of a fatal heart attack and was found by his wife that evening.

How could his wife have found him the evening of May 27th if the death were announced early in the afternoon? MaynardClark (talk) 20:30, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Allman -- referring to Gregg

There are a lot of sentences saying Allman this or that. These are often next to sentences talking about Duane and Gregg, or even just Duane. Would it make sense to change these (mostly without being barbaric) to Gregg? I have honestly had to reread sentences a couple times to understand who is going where. Jones lawsuit

as of this writing, allman (presumably now his estate) is listed as a defendant and cross-plaintiff in the wrongful death action filed by the parents of the crewmember of the allman biopic killed by a train during filming. the suit was filed in 2014 and is in trial as of this date. worthy of at least a mention?Toyokuni3 (talk) 16:36, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

• A couple of points that are not issues for GA but you may wish to fix:
  • [1] is a dead link
  • There are some page ranges given that should be "pp." instead of "p."
• which formed the basis of his acclaimed memoir My Cross to Bear: suggest cutting "acclaimed".
• The band continued on, with Brothers and Sisters (1973) representing their largest sales: suggest "The band continued, with Brothers and Sisters (1973) their most successful album."
• discovering artists such as Muddy Waters, which later became central to his musical evolution: should this be "who later became"?
• Allman always maintained that Herring had told him to take the deal and he would take the fall for it: I don't follow this; what deal?
• the first verse introduced a story, expounded upon it in the second, and the third may serve as an epilogue: needs a bit of tweaking: as it stands "the first verse" is the subject of "expounded".
• Footnote 45 is to Freeman 1996, but there's nothing matching that in the sources list.

Mistaken Name

Yes, but those are newspapers and a magazine. I would say that the editorial supervision and fact-checking of a book published by an academic publisher such as Routledge makes it a more reliable source. Carlstak (talk) 19:32, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
