Proposed major edits

I intend making major edits over the next week: hopefully to get this article up to B-class. Interim edits may look disorganised or unfinished.shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 06:23, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Zoot (band). Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

  • Attempted to fix sourcing for //www.whammo.com.au/index.asp

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).

This message was posted before February 2018. After February 2018, "External links modified" talk page sections are no longer generated or monitored by InternetArchiveBot. No special action is required regarding these talk page notices, other than regular verification using the archive tool instructions below. Editors have permission to delete these "External links modified" talk page sections if they want to de-clutter talk pages, but see the RfC before doing mass systematic removals. This message is updated dynamically through the template {{source check}} (last update: 5 June 2024).

  • If you have discovered URLs which were erroneously considered dead by the bot, you can report them with this tool.
  • If you found an error with any archives or the URLs themselves, you can fix them with this tool.

Assessment comment

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Zoot (band)/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

Comment(s)Press [show] to view →
Start class:
  • Green tickY A reasonably complete infobox
  • Green tickY A lead section giving an overview of the band
  • Green tickY Reference to primary band members by name (must specify members of most stable line-up; a band navbox is insufficient)
  • Green tickY Categorisation at least by main genre and origin

C-class:

  • Green tickY All the start class criteria
  • Green tickY A reasonably complete infobox, including labels and band members list
  • Green tickY At least one section of prose (in addition to the lead section)
  • Green tickY A discography of studio albums and singles
  • Green tickY A list of band members, including instrumentation
  • Green tickY Reliable independent in-line references supporting claims
  • Green tickY A casual reader should learn something about the band

B-class:

  • Green tickY All the C-class criteria
  • Green tickY A completed infobox, including photo (were available) and most technical details
  • Green tickY A full list of band members, including instrumentation and time span with the band
  • Green tickY A full discography including charting history (or a link to such an article)
  • Green tickY No obvious issues with sourcing, including the use of blatantly improper sources
  • Green tickY No significant issues exist to hamper readability, although it may not rigorously follow WP:MOS
  • Green tickY No obvious omissions, but also no obvious extraneous information – such as "trivia"
  • Evaluation based on WikiProject Biography Assessment Quality scale. Please update this list if the article fails to meet any of the above criteria, changing the article's class assessment as appropriate. Recommend merge - due to lack of verifiable citations, content and specific ties to music group. TRL (talk) 00:00, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep: I've had a go at providing references. His rock music career was brief and is now supported by further references. Under his full name his subsequent classical music career is now included in the article, with references, and has little to do with Zoot. According to Elysium Ensemble's official website he was a member (see here) but I have not included this as its not an independent source.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:24, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trlovejoy: It's now more than three weeks since I've improved the article and proposed that it not be moved. There are no other interested editors. Can you provide your current thoughts on this matter?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:20, 27 May 2024 (UTC)07:21, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Strong Keep. I am interested, but was not aware until today that this discussion was going on.
There's a very simple argument against merging with Zoot - and that is that, as can now be seen with material more recently added to the article, Hicks (or Glanville-Hicks, to use his full surname) has done a lot of things that had nothing to do with Zoot. In the rock music area, he made the contribution to Russell Morris's "The Real Thing" describeed in the article; and later on, he engaged in a number of classical music projects, too. And he was in a couple of films, too, even if the role was not very big.
However, in light of this, perhaps the name of the article should be changed from "Roger Hicks (rock musician)" to simply "Roger Glanville-Hicks" (the disambiguating description of what he does not needed now, with "Roger Glanville-Hicks" being a name not shared with any other Wikipedia subject). (By hte way, I think I have seen the name "Glanville-Hicks" written without a hyphen; but Roger Glanville-Hicks uses the form with the hyphen.)M.J.E. (talk) 17:27, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
