All I Want For Christmas Proposed Edit (See Discussion Page)
Hello, I have outlined the rationale for a proposed edit to the All I Want For Christmas Is You page and the List of Best Selling Singles, changing the reported figure of 16 million copies sold to 22 million copies sold to accurately reflect the total number of certifications. There is a strong indication that the 16 million figure has been inaccurate for some time and that the sources reporting it are merely repeating this figure due to a lack of substantive update. The argument that 'certifications' do not equal copies sold also does not have any qualitative basis, given that these 'certifications' are independently verified and audited by recording registries in each country. Whilst some of these sales are digital and streaming equivalent sales, the vast majority are physical sales and I would therefore propose that the 22 million figure be subject to the disclaimer that it reflects a combination of both physical and digital/streaming-equivalent sales. Cucas1234 (talk) 00:49, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Cucas1234: I appreciate the fact you explain your POV. But you're simply missing a pivotal step: add a reliable source to have backed that figure (WP:BURDEN) with such important move you're doing. If this "popular song" (viral every Christmas since at least a couple of years ago) really has updated worldwide sales while receiving a notable marketing/response (even from Mariah herself since September/October yearly), then, is media's turn to post it. I personally oppose to reflect the combination of both physical/digital/streaming-equivalent sales. Aren't our businesses and is unnatural and misleading provide in a prose/lead the total certified units. It sounds more a circular reporting. For good or bad, streaming generated certs have complicated things. Some de facto reliable measurement firms have provided a general picture, including Luminate/Nielsen in the USA, or OCC in the UK, and it seems sales are not even the half compared to the amount certified from both country's organizations, eg. J Balvin sales
Loco Contigo (a total of 2.5 million singles sold in 12 countries) Con Altura (3.09 million singles sold in 10 countries) Say My Name (2.3 million copies sold in 12 countries) Ritmo (3.6 million copies sold) X (4.1 million copies sold in 14 countries) Mi Gente & Mi Gente remix ( over 20 million copies sold in 16 countries) Downtown ( 6.6 million copies sold worldwide) Que Mas Pues ( 4.1 million copies sold in 18 countries) I like it ( 11 million in America and 20 million copies worldwide in total) sold). Even the simplest songs by J Balvin sell 1 million or half a million copies (with US Latin sales) on the Riaa site. He has sold over 100 million singles and albums in his entire career. Jigglyyy (talk) 03:57, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Jigglyyy Hi the problem those are heavily influenced by streaming generated equivalent-units, and aren't the same that copies sold. And most important, you need to prove it (WP:BURDEN) with a reliable source saying he has sold 100 million records, and is not the case. --Apoxyomenus (talk) 18:50, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Do you think an artist with the "best selling Latin artist" label achieved this title by selling 35 million records? See sales and listings from artists like Cardi B, David Guetta and Beyonce. They 3 songs in collaboration with J Balvin have sold over 40 million copies worldwide. If you want a source, you can check the RIAA and Universal music sites. I am someone who manages Chart account and I always check streams, sales, official listings. With just a simple calculation, I can prove that a few songs have sold 70 million in "official" sales. Go to the Wikipedia page of J Balvin songs and calculate the sales yourself. you will see this. Many of the sales are not updated on the Official Riaa sales site and Wikipedia pages, the initial sales amounts. The RIAA's recent UPDATE (also Universal music) shows that number has exceeded 100 million. Jigglyyy (talk) 11:35, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
- Jigglyyy I was the one who search for his worldwide sales before his page have one. And yes, 35+ million record is a generous figure for a Latin artist. Not inflated comparing to the 100M number you have claimed, cuz those are streaming generated certifications. Not even Shakira is attributed with that figure, or is not used here in Wikipedia. --Apoxyomenus (talk) 15:37, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- 100 million is not an inflated figure, but a number from certificates already obtained. at the same time, 35 million sales was a number that was put forward about 3 years ago by a magazine with J Balvin on the cover. In other words, this number has already reached 40-50 million. In any case, for a hit-maker and record producer like J Balvin, 35 million isn't a generous figure, considering the title he's earned. there are too many missing. J Balvin, for example, was the first Latin artist to receive a diamond certification for his digital sales. If "PURE" singles sales are 40-50 million, their digital sales are already over 100 million. Anyone with a brain can think of it. When we look at the sources we have, the number 35 published by a magazine 3 years ago seems like a joke. Jigglyyy (talk) 10:32, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Unneccesary Revertion
I didn't want to engage myself in a edit war that's why i am leaving you the message, i want to discuss this topic first cause you can't revert anything in WP without coming to a conclusion with the other collaborator but you have violated WP rules, my edit in the Honorific Nicknames In Popular Music was backed up by reliable sources and was nothing other than that a true and accurate information, she has that title just like every other artist in the page have their own welll-known titles, your revertion was unneccesary and a violation to WP:rules, would you please explain your reasons and motives to revert it? And i hope they're accurate and good enough and backed up with confirmed information and well researched arguments. Lightlylove (talk) 05:41, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Spanish certs for Classical albums
I read in differents sites that for a Platinum album was 25,000 copies, until September 1999. Here on bottom. The album Tutto Pavarotti was certified 12x Platinum, those numbers are impossible with the standard certification. Franlm14 (talk) 18:57, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Franlm14: I added those certified sales because it is column used throughout the list, but my addition was based in the verified sales (over a million copies in Spain), according to the Anuario from El País, which I understand is a reliable source and that they provided certifications/sales figures from AFYVE (now Promusicae), like El Mundo did in early 2000s. Perhaps an additional or clarifying note could be used if raise concerns. Not the big deal if is entirely deleted. --Apoxyomenus (talk) 19:29, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- I don't mind either. The problem with source is that is probable that they did the equivalence 12x platinum = 1,200,000, Here says 1.4 million sold. But according to the book, that year was the fourth best-selling album of the year, the number 1 was Phil Collins' ...But Seriusly, and he reach just the 7x platinum mark.
- 1990 En concierto (with Pavarotti & Jose Carreras) 1 /x9/ /37/ 3PL or 14PL of classical music. Franlm14 (talk) 18:16, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Franlm14: Sorry for the late response. There is a bit of ambiguity. Some Spanish YE reports varied a little, as far as I've seen and remember with some cases. Maybe there is a difference between best-selling vs. best-charted/best-performed. Feel free to keep or delete the entry, or re-arrange the explanatory note. --Apoxyomenus (talk) 04:04, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Oasis certified sales needed to reach 80-99 million bracket
Hello thanks for helping me out the last few days with the Oasis project. I really appreciate your help. Can you just tell what figure of certified sales Oasis would need to reach the 80 million mark please ?. ie 57 certified sales counts for the 75 million mark. Can you help me with this please ?. 178.167.186.35 (talk) 19:30, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
Oasis UK sales total
- Hi where did you get the figure of 42 million sales for Oasis in the UK please ?. It says the source is dated back to 2018. Does the 42 million cover all the sales up to 2024 please ?. 178.167.170.47 (talk) 18:31, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! Sorry for the belated response. As far as I remember, we had those requirements on the top of the talk page in order to include artists or increase their rank/sales but I no longer see it. Regarding their 42M certified sales in UK, it was based on the compilation made by Markus WikiEditor. Once I have time, I'll double-check their missed certifications from other countries (namely, New Zealand, Mexico and so on), and see if they qualify for an upgrade; however you need also find a reliable source indicating they sold 80 million. Cheers, --Apoxyomenus (talk) 16:01, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. Oasis sales in the UK are until 2024. You can go to the BPI website and do the count to see if I was wrong. I did the count on the same day I posted the sales and table with Oasis here Markus WikiEditor (talk) 17:33, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi Markus what certified sales figure would Oasis need to reach 80 million sales ?. Now that 57m certified sales raises them to the bracket of 75 million sales, what figure is needed to go from 75 to 80 million sales please ? 18:20, 21 June 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.167.160.148 (talk)
Something to Remember album sales
Hey! Why did you erase the sales of 350 thousand copies of Something to Remember in Brazil? After you made the note about the album having two gold records, you eliminated the sales that were referenced. I think one thing doesn't interfere with the other.
