Krisna Wijaya (born June 22, 1955) is a senior banker and cultural activist in Indonesia who serves as the President Commissioner of PT Jaminan Kredit Indonesia. He began his career at Bank Rakyat Indonesia and was appointed as the Chief Executive of the Deposit Insurance Corporation in 2005 by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. He was twice nominated to become the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia in 2005 and 2010.

Education

Krisna pursued his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Agriculture at Bogor Agricultural Institute in 1980, obtained a Master's in Management from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta in 1990, and earned a Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Studies from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta in 2009.[1]

Career

Among Indonesian bankers, the name Krisna Wijaya is well-known. He had a career at Bank Rakyat Indonesia for more than 20 years, including leading the Deposit Insurance Corporation.[2] At Bank Rakyat Indonesia, he served as Director of Operations from 2000 to 2003, Director of SMEs from 2003 to 2005, and then as a Commissioner from May to September 2005.[3] He was then appointed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the Executive Head of Deposit Insurance Corporation through Presidential Decree No. 161/M of 2005, but resigned in 2008 before his five-year term ended.[4][5][6]

In 2005, he was nominated as a professional representative competing as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, but failed.[7][8] In 2010, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono once again nominated him as a candidate for the position of Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia. He competed with Perry Warjiyo and Halim Alamsyah.[9] His nomination failed due to a coalition split in The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, leading to a narrow defeat to Halim Alamsyah in the selection process by the The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Commission XI. Krisna, fully supported by the Democratic Faction, failed to garner support because the Golongan Karya Faction and the Partai Keadilan Sejahtera gave their votes to Halim Alamsyah.[10][11] Failing to become Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, he was then appointed as a Commissioner of PT Bank Danamon, and in the same year, he decided to resign from Danamon and chose to become an Independent Commissioner of Bank Mandiri to strengthen and enhance retail financing, especially for micro and SMEs.[12][13]

In 2020, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir appointed him as the President Commissioner of The National Asset Management Company (Perusahaan Pengelola Aset) through Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Decree No. SK-325/MBU/10/2020 dated October 9, 2020.[14] In 2022, Erick Thohir again appointed him as the President Commissioner of PT Jaminan Kredit Indonesia.[15]

In the government, he was entrusted to be part of the Minister of Finance's Assistance Team in 2003 and a member of the Steering Team of the Financial System Stability Forum, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia in 2010 to conduct studies related to the IMF Exit Policy in the banking sector.[16]

Social and Cultural

Krisna serves as one of the chairpersons of Paguyuban Puspo Budoyo, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and preservation of traditional arts such as Ketoprak, Ludruk, and Wayang Orang. He once portrayed King Jayakatwang in a ketoprak performance depicting the establishment of Majapahit at the Ismail Marzuki Park (Taman Ismail Marzuki) in Jakarta.[17]
