Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Anonymous Dissident (talk | contribs) at 04:10, 16 August 2007 (Sexc tomboi chik: cm). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is for bringing attention to usernames which may be in violation of Wikipedia's username policy. Before listing a username here, consider if it should be more appropriately reported elsewhere, or if it needs to be reported at all:

Do NOT post here if:

  • the user in question has made no recent edits.
  • you wish to have the block of a user reviewed. Instead, discuss the block with the blocking administrator (see also Wikipedia:Blocking policy § Unblocking).

Before adding a name here you MUST ensure that the user in question:

  • has been warned about their username (with e.g. {{subst:uw-username}}) and has been allowed time to address the concern on their user talk page.
  • has disagreed with the concern, refused to change their username and/or continued to edit without replying to the warning.
  • is not already blocked.

If, after having followed all the steps above, you still believe the username violates Wikipedia's username policy, you may list it here with an explanation of which part of the username policy you think has been violated. After posting, please alert the user of the discussion (with e.g. {{subst:UsernameDiscussion}}). You may also invite others who have expressed concern about the username to comment on the discussion by use of this template.

Add new requests below, using the syntax {{subst:rfcn1|username|2=reason ~~~~}}.

Usernames that promote a controversial or potentially inflammatory point of view. My concern is the ability of this username to seemingly come across as an "attack" on someone else's point of view. Notice left on user's page. ArielGold 04:01, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Resembles User:JzG "Just Zis Guy" - reported to UAA but was told by User:Sambc to ask about it here. Ali 00:52, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Suggested RFC because "JustThatGuy" (with or without the 2) is not a blatant similarity to the username JzG. SamBC(talk) 01:00, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No evidence this is someone taking the piss, should be left be IMO, SqueakBox 01:04, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is generally asked that you discuss your concern with the user in question before bringing it for comment here. You can use {{subst:UsernameConcern}} for this, or do a personal comment. As for the name itself, I think we should ask that they change their name, because it is reminiscent of JzG. i said 01:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion/comment: The policy is regarding username similarity. JzG's username is just that, JzG; it was his choice to be called colloquially "Just Zis Guy", (But he actually singed his posts with simply "Guy".) However, it is not his username, so there technically are no similarities in the name. Those who remember JzG, may however, find it disconcerting. ArielGold 01:43, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, User:Just zis Guy, you know? was his official username for awhile, although he changed it to User:JzG in January 2006 and started signing as "Guy" sometime after that. Newyorkbrad 01:47, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As seems to be my recent trend, I am again on the fence. His name is JustThatGuy2, after all. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 01:44, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Interestingly enough, this "new" editor apparently has Wikipedia experience (look at his contributions for evidence). Is it possible that JzG is using this account? Ali 03:00, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why not inquire? Why not ask him? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 03:02, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If an editor is using a sock, I doubt he'll be honest about it. Ali (t)(c) 03:59, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ArielGold pretty much says it all. The username is fine. — The Storm Surfer 03:37, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Almost breaching the length and random sequences of letters borders. Thoughts? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 07:40, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Disallow. Too long, gibberish. BushpigsGoneWild 09:04, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Making good edits, gentle persuasion to a new username only. Pay particular attention to WP:BITE. Nick 10:17, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not intending to bite the user, but rather his/her username. I should mention that I dont propose he be blocked, but contacted, and be recommended a name change to a username that inst so....hard to remember (how many "ie"s and "en"s). -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 10:19, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Politely direct him to CHU. Melsaran 15:18, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the more polite, the better. The last thing we need is to lose a good contributor simply because someone was hard on them about their username. Arky¡Hablar! 01:08, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I'll send him a message soon. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 01:03, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
