Lists of schools in Sri Lanka

There two main types of schools in Sri Lanka, these are governmental and non-governmental schools both provide primary and secondary education.

Governmental Schools are categorized in to two types, these are National Schools and Provincial Schools, the former is controlled by the Central government and the latter are controlled by Provincial Councils.

Non-governmental Schools are also categorized in to two types, these are Private schools and International Schools. Private school are schools that are not controlled by the government yet follows the local curriculum set up by the Ministry of Education in the local language mediums of Sinhala or Tamil or English.

International Schools are schools which have English as the primary language of instruction and usually follow a foreign curriculum, with a very few opting to have both local and foreign curriculum. A unique feature is that unlike private schools at are governed by regulations of the ministry of education, International and non-international english and bilingual medium schools are listed under the Board of Investment (BOI) and not under the ministry of education.

Colleges in Sri Lanka are not tertiary level educational institutes but elite primary and secondary level schools, most established in the colonial era.
