AfD

How come you've removed your entries from the AfD page? I thought they were reasonable and was about to comment. Lradrama 10:53, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see, yes that's a good idea. I've tagged John B. Sams and Gary L. Parks with prod2 - they're the ones you mean aren't they? Lradrama 11:06, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, glad I could help. I fully agree with all your prod-tags, so I've done them all. Lradrama 11:21, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John B. Sams and Gary L. Parks

Hi! I think that the two articles are also "cut and paste" from a military site. I spotted two others that I copy-vio'd. I like the prod approach tho. --Stormbay 21:45, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the good info. I had asked the question about public domain but then didn't wait for a reply. I will see what happens on the 2 that I tagged. I know it will be slow. Have a good day! --Stormbay 22:11, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete Matilal Sarkar

Matilal Sarkar is a Member of Parliament of India, is that not notable enough. I am trying to create pages of Members of Parliemment of India who represents Upper House of Parliament and I didn't expect deletion of those pages through Speedy Deletion. Vjdchauhan 06:20, 23 July 2007 (UTC).

Thanks for restoring it. Vjdchauhan 06:24, 23 July 2007 (UTC).
No problem Vjdchauhan. - Gilliam 06:26, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on The Curse of the Thirty Denarii. I do not think that The Curse of the Thirty Denarii fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because the link to the series page gave context. However there was no ueful content not already on the series page, so I have conveted it to a redirect. DES (talk) 23:53, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea to redirect. I am looking for a second opinion when nominating any article for speedy deletion. - Gilliam 23:57, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. You should be aware that soem admins seem to be in a hurry to clean up the speedy delete backlog, and often accept speedy tags if there is nothing obviously wrong, without perjhaps looking as closely as I thionk that they might. DES (talk) 01:38, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Happy Leonards

Hello Gilliam,

My article 'The Happy Leonards' was deleted yesterday and I am not sure why. I was told it was tagged for speedy deletion when I signed in this morning so I had no chance to contest it with my ((hangon)). The reason for the speedy deletion was that I hadn't established why the band was of importance. This band is immensely popular in Adelaide (population 1.2 million), South Australia, Australia. They cannot walk down the street without being recognised. I thought it was a travesty they didn't have an article written about them yet so I thought I would get the ball rolling and let other citizens of Adelaide who know them better edit as they wish. For this reason, I believe they are very 'noteworthy' people. Thankyou for your consideration.

Why did you delete The Happy Leonards

Hi, was just wondering when you are going to get back to me re: my post I sent to you a couple of days ago Gilliam.

Thankyou Piney001 04:48, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I was wondering if you could remove protection from this page. It's been a month since the show ended and I think it would be safe if the page were no longer protected. Admc2006 20:18, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done.- Gilliam 03:03, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

US Government Works

You deleted Bernard L. Austin on 19 July as a copyvio. However, the source specified is http://www.history.navy.mil/ar/alfa/austin_bl.htm which is a US Government work. US Government works are in the public domain and not subject to copyright. While we prefer to attribute the source, it is not a copyvio to not do so. I'm not convinced that this person is notable enough to bother restoring, but I would appreciate it if you could be more careful in deleting articles as copyvio's in the future. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 20:16, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I remember that set of (non-notable) copy-and-pasted articles. I had only deleted a few before adding the prod tag to those that did not meet WP:BIO guidelines. - Gilliam 23:01, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of John Laesch

John Laesch, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that John Laesch satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Laesch and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of John Laesch during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Mikemill 05:22, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mel Gibson

Hi. I reverted your change to the Mel Gibson DUI page because your edit was a redirect, rather than a merging of the two articles. Otherwise, that entire article is simply erased, and it seems that a lot of people worked hard on it! Popkultur 02:19, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're entitled to do so, and I'll have to spend some time doing the merging I suppose.- Gilliam 02:25, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure you won't have to do it all by yourself! I'll give it some of my time in the next few days. Popkultur 02:27, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you would like to work to make the transition, I sure would appreciate it! Thanks, Gilliam 02:32, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pleasant Ridge Chili

As an administrator, I am very disappointed that you have not read Wikipedia:Notability as of yet. Big business is not to be favored over small business in the face of six references, which you have completely ignored. Please read the guidelines carefully about how notability is established. Being a single franchise does not under any circumstances make something not notable. While all "famous" and "important" subjects are notable, not all notable subjects are famous or important. In good faith I am hoping you will provide a solid argument for deletion, outside of "gut feeling" votes. That being said, I have very little faith in many editors on this site anymore, as so often they vote on "instinct", not policy. The Cincinnati Enquirer is absolutely, undeniably a reliable source. Two articles in their paper have been devoted to the chili parlor, and appear in the reference section of the article. There are four other references as well. Please go back and look over the references, and also read Wikipedia:Notability. I believe you will come to see the error in your vote. If not, it won't be the first time I've lost faith in this place. (Mind meal 00:37, 26 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hi, Gilliam, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

Jv?

Bit mystified by the claim for javanese language variety title for jakarta places - for a start bahasa indonesia - they look like - do you have a particular source that claims the javanese terminology? Are you aware of the diff between Javanese (which is not the langauge of Jakarta for a start - its in west java which is in the sundanese region) and Bahasa Indonesia - mohon maaf if I have in fact been impolite or misread your work - but I have a terrible feeling you are on a wrong limb. Please prove me wrong - lest I offend. SatuSuro 09:31, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am casually working on the project. I certainly hope I have made no errors. If you have a diff to point out, I would welcome the feedback. Thanks, Gilliam 09:35, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you are checking against entries in the Javanese version of wikipedia - fine. Its just that as I have put it above - there are potentially many languages where variants of place names can and do occur - sundanese, javanese, betawi, bahasa indonesia, dutch transcriptions, english transcriptions. If you are interpolating from or to another wikipedia - if it is javanese - your tags are correct, to a point. However - sometimes some editors in the javanese wikipedia might actually be putting the indonesian terms rather than the javanese (or sundanese) - and so on. I have not checked many -if I find a dif that bothers me I'll let you know - I lost most of my watchlist about a month back - and not all the jakarta locations are back on it yet. Sorry to be a problem. SatuSuro 10:31, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please give vandal warnings

I see that you have done a great job of reverting vandalism, as at the article Incandescent light bulb. Unfortunately, when you revert without also placing a warning on the vandal's page, it does not set them up for any form of banning, and they can go on their merry way vandalizing other articles. I had just reverted the same vandal's actions on that same page, and would have ratcheted up the warning toward the point that I could have asked for an administrator to ban the IP address. Please take the time to post suitable warnings, increasing the severity suitably, so that persistent vandals can be banned when appropriate. Thanks! Edison 00:38, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, well that anon editor has such a long history of vandalism and warnings that I blocked him immediately. Normally I do give out warnings first however. - Gilliam 00:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Must be nice to have the buttons available. It is an exercise in futility to "fight" vandals with reversions and warnings. Edison 04:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of thin (body)

This article was deleted through AfD, and it wasn't until a significant amount of time went by that you decided to recreate the page and redirect it to underweight. For one, if anyone, including moderators, decided that it would have been better to redirect, they would have done so before deleting the article and closing the AfD discussion. Second, the redirect is logically wrong as a thin body does not equate to being underweight. Third, much of the controversy that caused the thin (body) article to be created was caused by the initial redirect from "thin" to underweight. Now the article has to be deleted again because of this. I ask you to contact a moderator or whoever to delete the article again, as you made the initial mistake. - Cyborg Ninja 20:45, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Read this

You are not scaring anyone. If you are wondering who am I, I am 'Slovenia Vandal' whom you send a message...I can also vandalise it from other computers but this is my point im trying to make here:

Slovenians are bastard and coward nation, they thing they rose up from Balkans and are bragging with their 'high standard of living' .I am a Croat and i find Slovenian actions in recent time most most affending. On Youtube there was a video by Slovenian user named 'Why Croatia Sux' - discussing ,above else, our refusal to give up Gulf of Piran .Another Slovenian-made videos displayed Slovenian pissing on Croatian flag.Would a yankee like yourself be upset when someone should piss on American flag? yeah..... Bastard Cowards had 10 day war,we had 5 year one...that explains our 'undevelopment' ,they , in their ignorance didn't help of course...

JUST a something for you to read, btw im sending to Slovenian talk page , and when protection is expired , their as* is mine —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.172.229.110 (talk) 01:13, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
