Rollback

Wow. I am very honored and grateful to have been accorded this privilege. Thank you. I will read up in the coming days. From what I can tell it looks like a useful tool.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 00:18, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's very useful. :) Just remember it's for vandalism-reversion only. Good luck! Acalamari 00:23, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Useful and simple.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 00:29, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the revert on my userpage! Æon Insanity Now! 00:36, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Rollback

Ok, thanks. I hadn't requested it, as I use Twinkle for most anti-vandal stuff, but I appreciate the vote of confidence! Thanks! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:00, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! Acalamari 02:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re:Rollback

I appreciate the confidence, and I'll use rollback wisely. How exactly did you happen to come across my edits? --דניאל - Dantheman531 02:16, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I came across your last RfA when checking the "what links here" on my userpage. I viewed your edits after reading your RfA, and decided that you and the encyclopedia would benefit from having rollback. Acalamari 02:42, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, thanks a lot. --דניאל - Dantheman531 03:50, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. :) Acalamari 17:15, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User shift

Do you have the access to change a user account, including watchlist and contribs, everything? --BritandBeyonce (talk) 11:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You mean renaming your account? No, that can only be done by a bureaucrat, and after being requested at Wikipedia:Changing usernames. The only change I can make to an account, other than blocking one (which doesn't really change the account, it just prevents it from editing), is by granting rollback abilities, as I did with your account. Acalamari 17:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thank you. Maybe you want you know, I'll change my identity here in Wiki. --BritandBeyonce (talk) 00:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Acalamari 00:57, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protection of Elvis

Thanks. Every time protection is lifted from the article, it's like a damn cracking. Vandalism starts to trickle in, gets a little heavier and then BOOM, the shit breaks and the morons flood in. Bad times. Anyway, thanks again. LaraLove 23:17, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, ha, you're welcome! I looked at history (as my summary said, masses of vandalism) and the protection log and decided that indefinite semi-protection would be better suited there than temporary. Sadly, it seems that the Elvis Presley article is one of those pages that, when unprotected, the vandals have a field day. Acalamari 23:20, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nicky Hilton

But Nicky Hilton is to 25% an Italian-American, because her mother is half. Therefor its right!? --DaEazy (talk) 13:13, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not actually mentioned in the Nicky Hilton article, and as the Nicky Hilton article is a WP:BLP one, the ancestry needs sourcing. Acalamari 17:10, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Autoblock

Aeon1006 (talk · contribs) has reported [1] that he was the victim of collateral damage from an autoblock triggered by my block of Howgoesit (talk · contribs), who was bothering you as well; the IP apparently serves much of the US Navy Southwest Region. However, Aeon1006 notified me of this on my talk page, which shouldn't have been possible if he was autoblocked; he would only be able to edit his talk page. Is there something I'm missing here? Acroterion (talk) 13:15, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're right: if he was autoblocked, he wouldn't have been able to contact you on your talk page. The only thing I can think of is that someone lifted his autoblock before he posted it, which is what I think happened: see User talk:Aeon1006#Hello!. Acalamari 17:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, if I'd been more diligent I would have noticed that. Wasn't the first time, either. Acroterion (talk) 17:47, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it. :) Acalamari 17:48, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Hello Imjustmatthew, I have granted rollback rights to your account. The reason for this is that, after a review of some of your contributions, I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended use of reverting vandalism: I do not believe you will abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. Acalamari 21:44, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's a nifty new tool, thank you. I will try and use it well. --Matthew (talk) 16:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Acalamari 17:11, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering

What exactly can we do about persistant copyright violators who keep replacing a well sourced wikipedia article with copyrighted material from another site. On the Mike Bickle article, this IP address has continued adding copyrighted material from this site despite numerous warnings. I haven't really dealt with copyright violators more than once before so I'm hoping that you might know a little more about these sort of situations. Cheers :) AngelOfSadness talk 19:56, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User blocked. If they continue after the block, they can be blocked again. If they use other IPs or accounts to insert the material, they can be blocked, and if necessary, the page protected. Acalamari 20:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. I was scanning through all of the wikipedia pages on copyright violations but what to do with copyright violations isn't really explained further beyond what is said on the Template:uw-copyright. Anyway, I'll keep the page on my watchlist in case they return earlier than expected. AngelOfSadness talk 20:14, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The users should be blocked if they persist in adding copyright violations despite being warned not to, which is what I did here. The copyvio should then be removed. Acalamari 20:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The copyvio was added three times and then removed three times (twice by me) and then the user was blocked. Great, so now I know what to do with future copyright violations. AngelOfSadness talk 20:29, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's what should be done if someone keeps adding copyvios. Copyvios are not to be treated lightly, and should be removed when identified. Like when reverting vandalism, you do not have to worry about breaking 3RR when removing copyvios. Acalamari 20:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's good to know. So, just say someone puts in a copyvio, it's then reverted and the copyvio is put in again by the same user, the best thing to do then is to revert again and alert an admin, warning or no warning. AngelOfSadness talk 20:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A warning should be given before any alerts are made, just in case the person doesn't realize that what they're doing is wrong, but if they continue past the warnings, report them to AIV (preferably if they've inserted copyvios beyond their final warning) or, in your case, alert an admin. The vandalism warnings are fine after using the copyvio warning template. Acalamari 21:22, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering if using the vandalism templates was ok after the copyvio template, but I guess after the first warning and second offence it would be classed as vandalism, just another kind of vandalism that I'm not used to but that's about to change. AngelOfSadness talk 21:34, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, after a copyvio warning, the vandalism templates are fine (though levels 2 and above should be used after the copyvio warning). There aren't any levels of copyvio templates (at least none that I know of), so the vandalism templates should be used. Hope this helps. :) Acalamari 21:37, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It helps a lot. Thank you so much :) AngelOfSadness talk 21:45, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. :) Acalamari 21:47, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

I am not one for sending round pretty pictures, but after my recent RfA, which passed 68/1/7, I am now relaxed and this is to thank you for your support. I will take on board all the comments made and look forward to wielding the mop with alacrity. Or two lacrities. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 21:38, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re: question

Haha... a little weird, yeah. I hadn't even noticed the error until you changed it yourself, probably cos I can't remember why I registered this account in 2006 in the first place. Hope it didn't bother you at all - Zeibura ( talk ) 22:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, it was no bother. :) I just found it funny, that's all. Acalamari 22:34, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Overdue barnstar

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
I truly appreciate you going to bat for me on my recent Rfa attempt. Thank you!MONGO 00:39, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the Barnstar! I appreciate it! With your RfA, I mainly responded to the more unfair opposition, and opposition that had reasons which I believe were uncalled for. Thanks! Acalamari 00:48, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ultraexactzz is now an Administrator

My RfA was successful, and closed with 44 Supports, 6 Opposes, and 1 Neutral. For your support, you have my thanks - I fully intend to live up to the lofty yet not-a-big-deal responsibility you have granted me. For those who opposed my candidacy, I value your input and advice, and hope that I may prove worthy of your trust. Special thanks to both Rudget and bibliomaniac15 for their expert coaching and guidance. I look forward to serving the project, my fellow editors, the pursuit of higher knowledge, et cetera, et cetera. Again, you have my thanks. RfA thanks from Happy-melon

I just wanted to say thanks for your support for my RfA, which closed (74/2/0) this morning. Your comment and support was very much appreciated... and the thought-provoking question!! Happymelon 15:52, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thx for the rollback tool

Appreciate your confidence. Best wishes --Catgut (talk) 22:06, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, just remember it's for vandalism-reversion only. For more information on rollback, you may want to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature if you haven't already. Good luck. Acalamari 22:08, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Very impressed by your answering both here and on my discussion page! Very comfy. Oh, and thank you for your advice. Anyway, I see rollback as a mere tool when fighting vandalism, and definitely not as a privilege that I would exploit wrongfully. Best wishes --Catgut (talk) 22:23, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, well, I normally like to respond on both pages talk pages, unless someone else's talk page says where it's best for me to respond. :) I'm glad to see that you'll be using rollback for it's intended purpose. :) Regards. Acalamari 22:26, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I've seen the notice on your talk page. Totally agree with it, discussions should better be kept in one place. I'll seize the suggestion and put something similar on my discussion page, too. Best wishes --Catgut (talk) 22:42, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Hi! I am interested in Vandal Fighting! However, Twinkle does not work on my computer. May I have the fast admin rollback feature please? I would be very pleased and honored. Please respond on my talk page! Swirlboy39 (talk) 01:04, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to have to decline your request for now. After a look at your contributions, you have less than fifty edits, and have not demonstrated any knowledge (yet) of vandal-fighting, so I have no way of knowing how you'll use the tool. Practice reverting vandalism with the "undo" feature for a week or so, and then come back to me and I'll review your contributions then. Thanks! Acalamari 02:46, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes sir! Swirlboy39 (talk) 03:12, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the disappointment, but I'm glad you understand. I simply want to see some demonstration of vandal-fighting first so I know how you'll use the rollback tool. Thank you. Acalamari 03:15, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Hi, just dropping by to say thanks for supporting my RfA, I totally wasn't expecting to get so much support, it was a really pleasant surprise. Melesse (talk) 04:19, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

rollback thanks

Thank you for fixing it for me - super-quick! Eagerly awaiting my first oportunity to use it... Snalwibma (talk) 17:51, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! If you want information and/or practice with using rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. Good luck! Acalamari 17:57, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thank you

My RfA
Thank you very much for your support in my RfA which I really appreciate. It closed at 83/0/0. I was surprised by the unanimity and will do my best to live up to the new role. All the best, --ROGER DAVIES talk 16:49, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article templates

I added them, because the article needed cleanup etc. Guess I should have used {{articleissues}} instead, but I forgot to tick that box with the Friendly js I was using. Thanks, --Solumeiras (talk) 18:36, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thank you for the explanation. It's just that when I went to view the article, I couldn't see it because of the templates. :) I do agree the article needs some work, and a template or two should help. Acalamari 18:40, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, no, it wasn't aggressive: it was constructive criticism. Anyway, what articles you editing?? Any that you could take to article creation & improvement drive with me?? Thanks, --Solumeiras (talk) 18:43, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's a relief, thank you. :) Well, I'm not working on any particular articles (I mainly edit what interests me), but I suppose that while we're on the topic, the Rihanna article might be a good one to take there, as I have it on my watchlist and edit it a lot. Acalamari 18:48, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback templates

I saw that, only I didn't know that they were templates. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 19:30, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, but for the record, User:Acalamari/Rollback was just moved to {{Rollbackgiven}} to make it more accessible to everyone, rather than just keeping it in my userspace. Acalamari 19:32, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. :) Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 19:35, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, useful wording! Thanks. Saved me the trouble of working something out. My initial reaction to giving out rollback was a bit negative, but I now support it as a useful tool for trusted users to make life a bit easier for them. I also think it is a good moral boost for editors who for whatever reason may not become admins, but have nevertheless achieved a good status. Tyrenius (talk) 20:45, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! Yes, you're right about there being some users who aren't able to become admins for various reasons but would benefit from having rollback: in the rollback proposal, one of the common reasons for opposition was that anyone who was trusted with rollback could be trusted with all the tools. In reality, there have been many users who have run through RfA who clearly know how to use rollback correctly, but are often opposed for either not enough article-writing experience or lack of knowledge of the deletion and/or blocking policies. Acalamari 21:22, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And also experienced users who don't want to become admins, preferring to remain as content editors, but as a matter of course revert vandalism. Tyrenius (talk) 21:31, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. :) Acalamari 21:34, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
