President infobox

Why the hell is the President infobox being used on Jay Leno's page? Surely someone who thought they would be smart by using it from another page or something. I'm not changing it because to be honest, I can't be fucked. 86.135.46.31 01:45, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jay and the French

I reverted the paragraph added about Leno's "deep disdain" for all things French. If the quote given is accurate, it's possible that some mention of a controversy regarding Leno's statements (if, indeed, there was such a controversy) might be appropriate. But the way this was worded was pretty hopeless (for example, "led the Anti-French campaign" -- what anti-French campaign)? Jgm 22:49, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Well I found this material by Leno on a Anti-Anti-French site. (miquelon.org)
It proves Leno was profoundly Anti-French, it also proves Jay can be quite spiteful when he can get away with it. Jay Leno Anti-French material

That site doesn't prove anything. Those quotes are jokes. Lighten up. Matt 05:59, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Are racist jokes acceptable ? Are xenophobic jokes acceptable ? Are sexist jokes acceptable ? Are homophobic jokes acceptable ? Are religious jokes acceptable ? People targeted by such "jokes" will certainly not "Lighten up" as you would like to think! Matt is probably a white christian american straight male.
Why don't you sign your replies? First, I am an American straight male, but neither Christian nor white. Even I was Christian or white, I don't know what that was supposed to imply about me (maybe your racist belief that all straight white male Christians find racist jokes acceptable?). Second, the jokes in question are not racist. They are based on the fact that France did not support the U.S. in the war even though the U.S. helped France in WWII. If Tony Blair refused to help us, then Leno would have made jokes about the English as well. It has nothing to do with race and everything to do what Leno perceives to be cowardly actions by a particular nation. 21:27, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
You know whats a funny joke? That the US did NOT help the french, remotely as much as you would like. The US DEFENITELY, 100% did not declare war on Germany. GO LOOK THIS UP. GERMANY DECLARED WAR ON THE UNITED STATES. Is that clear enough? So, whatever "help" the french got, was clearly coming from the British and Poles (funny, why do we never hear surrender monkey jokes about the poles or the british?) who had already been fighting for 2-3 years. Not the "destroyers for bases" US. Taking credit for so much bullshit. As if you went to Europe to free it. Yeah, technically that would be a side effect of trying to keep a Soviet communist empire from forming or a Nazi fascist competitor.

I have reverted the section. The link provided in the page citation really doesn't "prove" anything (at least in the deconstructionist sense.) Leno has said on multiple occasions on The Tonight Show that Montreal, Canada is the "the most beautiful city in North America." Further, it can hardly be said that Leno is "well-known" for his purportedly anti-French comments; even if this were true, it would belong in a criticism section that would objectively explain points of contention about his comments, which are most likely tongue-in-cheek. Summarily, as it has been written, the section is a POV-ridden, vanity entry and does not seem to fit in an encyclopedic article about this particular person. Perhaps supporters of this section should find further references for the existence of a controversy about Leno's remarks; see Francophobia and Anti-French sentiment in the United States for what may be a more appropriate forum for a mention. 69.166.17.41

See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:82.153.101.34

For about two years after 911 Leno spinelessly followed in the footsteps of Dennis Miller and because a fairweather neocon hawk. When Bush's approval ratings started slipping again, he mysteriously reverted to his previous apolitical stance.

Jay Leno is a patented francophobe. It's not his bread and butter but he made anti-French jokes based on lies, cliches and misconceptions that are quite dangerous. For him to say that the French were all collaborationist and that there were only 4 people in the French Resistance is wrong on so many accounts. A French-American group even offered him books to "educate" him on the matter. He refused. Bashing the French constantly is a proof of bigotry. Insultant jokes end up being unfunny quite rapidly. I do not see any issue with exposing Leno for the bigot that he is. --216.143.120.140 19:47, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose you have proof of this offer that you're willing to share. Just because someone makes jokes about someone else doesn't mean the first person hates the second. I'm part French, but I find the jokes about the French funny.
I guess its the bullshit part of you thats french then? I'm not french at all, and I dont find repeated exaggerations and outright lies about a situation that has been a lie since the start. Why no British surrender monkey/retreat monkey jokes? Why no polish? Why no checz? Yeah... Because the situation is actually just the opposite of what people in the US wants to paint it out to be.
The simple question that needs to be answered is. Why did the US go into Europe during ww2? The answer is self-preservation & the germans had declared war & and in case the Soviets would be winning. Not to save Europe.

Leno Facts

According to "The Globe" Leno hasn't comsumed a vegetable since 1969. He is just as particular about salads, not having one for a decade.

Picture?

Is this the best picture of Jay we could find to use on this page? It looks like he's eating a peanut butter sandwich or something.

I like it. He looks kinda goofy, the picture makes you want to laugh. Matt 06:02, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien

"Leno announced that Late Night host Conan O'Brien will replace him." No wonder I never hear Conan O'Brien making jokes about Jay. September 1st, 2005

He's made plenty of jokes about jay.

He doesn't have kids?

I could have swore Jay Leno had a daughter. I remember him saying it on the show once, saying he had a daughter and it seemed like he meant it seriously. And I came on here and read that he didn't - what the heck? :|

Nope--I believe that when he and Mavis got married, they agreed never to have children (acc. to The Late Shift by Bill Carter). He does have a niece who's a musician, however. Telestylo 07:55, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

What is it with the constant vandalism of this article? — JIP | Talk 19:14, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

November 11, 2006 I notice a vandalism in the introduction.

It's been vandalized again. His guest mentioned Wikipedia vandalism on his episode tonight and low and behold, someone came here and vandalized his page. It is too much to remove and it won't let me undo the edits. If someone wants to fix it, go ahead. Hopefully and admin can revert the article back to whatever it was before the vandalism. Also they should lock the page to at least registered users. Airiox (talk) 05:21, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Republican?

Is Jay Leno Republican or Democrat? I've heard him make fun of both. He's niether.

Not sure if he is registered as either, or if it belongs on the article. But his support of Arnold Schwarzenegger might be worth mentioningSjt81 08:13, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DevorahLeah (talk) 07:43, 7 April 2008 (UTC) I have quotes from him (which I'll be adding) where he says he is a member of neither party. But he notes with amusement that the Democrats think he's a Republican every time he has a major Republican guest, and Republicans accuse him of being pro-Democrats when he had a major Democratic guest. He perceives himself as a moderate. His wife is a Democrat.[reply]

Why does Jay Leno always makes fun of LGBT people?

On the Tonight Show, Jay almost every night has a LGBT joke. Expectially ones about the movie Brokeback Mountain. I am starting to wonder if he hates LGBT people. Does anyone agree? No.--Dil 05:03, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think Leno's despicable treatment of Helen Kushnick belongs on this page, but my two efforts have been deleted as vandalism. Would someone else care to try to write a treatment with less venom than mine? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.197.214.38 (talk • contribs) .

Dyslexia

When watching The Tonight Show just about last week, Jay was interviewing a guest, and quietly told him that he's dyslexic. Is there any verifiability to this? --Antoshi 05:16, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's mentioned that he's dyslexic many times on the show. Leno himself confirms it. What more verification would you need? 21:27, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

DevorahLeah (talk) 07:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC) I have quotes from numerous newspaper and magazine interviews where he comes out and says he has dyslexia. He also says his mother advised him that he would have to work twice as hard to succeed. I'll be adding all of this when I re-write the segment on his early years.[reply]

The Taliban: for or against?

Can someone be more explicit in the sentence:

"Since 1980, Leno has been married to Mavis Leno, who is known for her work with Afghan women under the Taliban."

Is she a "woman under the Taliban"? what does she do for them? Does she help the Taliban, or help circumvent them? Gronky 16:13, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, Mavis Leno is just a prominent feminist. 21:27, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Mavis Leno has worked to raise awareness of persecution faced by women under Taliban rule. It is highly commendable work, and she seems like a wonderful person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.148.71.175 (talk) 22:28, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doritos

I noticed there is no mention of the fact that Jay Leno was a spokes person early in his career for the Doritios brand tortilla chip. Do you think this should be added to his Early career section or Trivia section?

Tonight Show earnings

Does anyone have citation from Leno's statement when he was on an episode of Inside The Actor's Studio and stated that he has not touched one cent of his Tonight Show earnings? He stated that he still lives off his standup earnings because he said that his original profession was a comedian and not a personality.

I have heard him mention it when he came back from the writers strike. He says it's because he is paranoid that his money will dry up or something. He said all the money he spends is from his stand up comedy and plays at least a 100 shows a year. So it's true, but don't have a citation. Airiox (talk) 05:12, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stand-up Career

This article barely says anything about Leno's stand-up career, or most of the 80s, a time in which Leno was a very successful comedian. I don't know anything about him, but someone who does should write a large enough section on his stand-up career. 75pickup (talk · contribs) 05:27, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DevorahLeah (talk) 07:47, 7 April 2008 (UTC)If I can just clear out the time in the next couple of days, I have a massive amount of information about his high school, college, and early stand-up days. I'll add it.[reply]

Books

Leno's memoir, Leading with my Chin, was a bestseller. He's also published multiple volumes of "Headlines". This article needs a section detailing, or at least listing, the books he's written over the years. MosKillinest 04:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jay Leno is very cute

Chin

I'm surprised this article doesn't have a section all about the chin. I mean, come on. It's his defining feature. I'm not going to do it, though. Eris Discord | Talk 04:32, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sitcom Apperances

Jay Leno appeared as himself on Home Improvement, not as a mechanic. Tim sells his hotrod to Jay for a large sum, then buys a beater Jay is keeping in his garage. This should be edited and streamlined with the article.

Tim didn't sell the hotrod to Jay's character on that Home Improvement episode. He sold it to someone else and Jay's character was just some guy who worked for the dude that bought it. I don't know if he was a mechanic, but that is the impression I got. I used to be a huge Home Improvement fan and have watched every episode probably 20 times. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.168.226.219 (talk) 21:21, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Leno and Retirement

Is Jay actually retiring, or being pushed aside in favor of Conan? He's made some jokes the last couple of weeks on the show that kind of make it feel like he's not getting a choice in the matter. RyanGrant 02:15, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

real words

Is legendarily even a word? Even if it is, it sounds awkward.

Yes, it is a word. The OED records its use back to 1961; there's no other adverb form of legendary. And I'm not sure how else to word it, so I wouldn't bother changing it.
Having said that, the parenthetical in which it is looks unsourced, and of questionable notability even if it is sourced. I propose it should be deleted, especially since this is a BLP. Carl.bunderson (talk) 00:11, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Letterman... hellooooo!

Seems pretty odd that there is NO mention of the multiple times Jay appeared on Letterman's show, which as Leno himself admits really got him where he is today. He mentioned his Letterman appearances recently when Mike Myers was on. Seems to me it's not LENO who hates Letterman, but his fans want to erase any evidence that the two were ever friends, or that Letterman has done anything to help Jay. After tonight show rumors

Should there be at least a mention of the rumors that his career may not end with the tonight show. I read in an article that he has been contacted by Fox and ABC about having a show on one of there networks. He also has made jokes about it on the show, such as a headline saying that you can see the tonight show on ABC and saying it is like an article from the future, or when the insult dog came and mentioned it.
