TCF Bank Stadium is a proposed football stadium for the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The stadium is in the planning stages. The site of the new stadium would be about 500 yards closer to the U of M Coffman Union (compared to the Metrodome, the current home of the Gopher football squad). Plans call for a 50,000 seat on-campus stadium to be built in time for the 2009 football season. The stadium would be a "horseshoe" style stadium and could be expanded to seat up to 80,000 people. The estimated cost of the project is currently $248 million. The University is asking the state of Minnesota to contribute 40% of the cost while it plans to raise the remaining 60% through donations.

On March 24, 2005, the University of Minnesota and TCF Bank announced a naming rights deal that would have the bank contribute $35 million to the project. Best Buy has also pledged over $2 million towards the project.

Given the highly contentious debate of using tax dollars for sports arenas in Minnesota, it is unclear whether this project will move forward. However this bill has had bipartisan support in both houses of the state legislature.
