Austin Scarlett (born January 1, 1983) is a New York City based fashion designer best known for his appearance on the original season of Bravo’s Project Runway. He is currently creative director of the KENNETH POOL bridal collection.
Biography
Austin Scarlett was raised in Ringwood, NJ and attended Lakeland Regional High School graduating in 1996. His parents are Debra Little and Christopher Scarlett.
Scarlett attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where he specialized in couture and eveningwear design and received his degree in fashion design.
While in school and afterward Austin designed for private clients, and worked as design assistant and patternmaker on various design projects ranging from opera to dance, film and Broadway.
Scarlett moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to work in film costume design.
After a year in Hollywood, he returned to New York City and became a finalist on Project Runway, making a name for himself with his feminine, glamorous designs and enchanting, elegant persona.
After Project Runway, Scarlett produced couture collections under his own name for fall 2005 and spring 2006. He has also appeared as a fashion designer and commentator on MTV, E!, Discovery Channel, Logo and NBC’s Today Show, and published in NY Daily News, Life and Style, Elle, US Weekly, and iVillage.
Austin has also lent his design talents to many charitable causes.
In January 2006, New York bridal design house AMSALE announced that Austin Scarlett had joined the company as Creative Director of the luxury bridal collection, KENNETH POOL.
