Flatbush Avenue, also called the Atlantic Terminal, is the westernmost stop on the Long Island Rail Road's Atlantic Branch at Flatbush Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. It is the primary terminal for the Far Rockaway, Hempstead, and, on weekdays, West Hempstead Branches. It serves Downtown Brooklyn and, via a subway connection, Lower Manhattan.

It is located in the City Terminal Zone, and is in the CityTicket program. It is in the LIRR's Zone 1.

Subway & Bus Connections

It is near several subway lines. The Atlantic Avenue IRT, Atlantic Avenue BMT, Atlantic Avenue–Pacific Street BMT are inside the same station, while the Fulton Street and Lafayette Avenue stations are three and four blocks northeast respectively.

It also has connections to some bus routes: B37,B41, B45, B63, B65, and B67.

Nearby attractions

It is close to the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower and occupies the basement level of the the recently-constructed Atlantic Terminal Mall.

Platform and track configuration

This station has three high-level island platforms adjacent to six tracks. The north platform, Platform A, is 10 cars long and adjacent to Tracks 1 and 2. The two eastern-most cars on Track 1 are not accessible due to a large gap between the train and the platform. The center platform, Platform B, is eight cars long and adjacent to Tracks 3 and 4. (Brook Tower is at the east end of this platform.) The south platform, Platform C, is six cars long adjacent to Tracks 5 and 6. Because the west end of this Track 6 is adjacent to the uptown local subway platform, this track has only enough space for four cars to meet the platform.

Future developments

The massive Atlantic Yards residential, commercial and sports complex (including Barclays Center) is proposed to be built around the station and above its tracks.[1]

As part of the proposed Lower Manhattan-Jamaica/JFK Transportation Project, Flatbush Avenue station would switch from a terminal station to a through station for trains terminating at a proposed station in Lower Manhattan.
