Jay Maynard
Jay Maynard is a computer programmer and system administrator. He is most famous for impressing the ladies with his electroluminescent Tron Guy costume.
Internet fame
He became a subject of Internet discussion forums when his costume, inspired by the movie TRON, spread across the net from postings on Slashdot[1] and Fark. He parlayed his notoriety into a series of appearances on the late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2004.
In 2006, Maynard appeared in a music video entitled "We Are the Web", for the website of the same name. The video advocates the concept of network neutrality.[2] In it, Maynard appears alongside several other internet celebrities, including Leslie Hall and Randy Constan. He was also parodied in the South Park episode "Canada on Strike". His likeness appeared alongside those of such other Internet celebrities as Gary Brolsma, Ghyslain Raza, Chris Crocker and Tay Zonday.
Personal life
Maynard is the maintainer for Hercules, which emulates IBM mainframe hardware.[3]
Maynard's hobbies include conservative politics, amateur radio (callsign K5ZC), pistol shooting, flying, and attending technology and fan conventions.[4] He currently resides in Fairmont, Minnesota.[5][6] Despite his appearances as the "Tron Guy", Maynard has much more memorabilia from the Warner Bros. animated series Animaniacs in his home, which was noted for its juvenile decor: "Between the sci-fi DVDs and videos, a Lego set, and a pachinko machine, the living room looks like it was decorated by a 10-year-old boy in 1997."[7]
