Dinosaurs

About a year ago, back before I had an account, I wrote a few articles on dinosaurs: Kentrosaurus, Chasmosaurus and a few others. You posted on the user talk page for my IP, which it never occured to me to check until now. Having finally found your comment, I felt it was about time I responded to it! I am deeply flattered that you suspected from the tone of the prose that I had copied it, but in fact I really did write them myself. Hopefully a check against Google or something can confirm that. The reason they were marked up in HTML and not Wiki was that, at the time, I had no idea how to use Wiki markup at all. Thanks for improving my articles, and for the unintended compliment on my writing style! Agentsoo 21:10, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Very nice map

Image:Isthmus of Tehuantepec.jpg. Very nice. I've just used it in the Olmec article. And, gosh darn it, I think I'll put it in Juchitán de Zaragoza and Coatzacoalcos, too. Hajor 18:04, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

That's very kind! ☺ I think the colors perhaps a bit garish, but servicable. The city names might be better in white with a black shadow for visibility. But I don't think I have the source for that image any more, so it will probably stay as is. Kbh3rd 22:58, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

asking for support

Hello, since you are interested in maps I thought hat you might support our letter to Centre for Cartography, Vilnius University. We are asking to release their maps found at www.balticdata.info under GFDL licence so they could be used in articles about Lithuania. So far we got 14 people to "sign" it. The draft in very very rough English is available at user:Renata3/letter. If you decide to support it, I'll need just your first and last names together with your user name. You can leave it on my talk page or send it via email: just attact @gmail.com to my user name. Renata3 22:28, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sixteen Tons

Thank you for correcting me on Sixteen Tons. :) I love that song. Have you ever heard Dark as a Dungeon? Used to hear both of those on old reruns of Ernie Ford with my grandparents Saturday nights on one of our PBS stations, not too long ago. Now the reruns have stopped, one of my grandparents is dead, and the station no longer exists. :/ Jdavidb (talk) 17:15, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Qafqaz

Here is the original text of the Qafqaz article, in full:

"qafqaz pronunced ghafghaaz in persian in the name used for the caucasus region. see caucasus."

I felt that it did not deserve an article of its own, but also felt that it would be a shame to not include the information somehow. Feel free to reword my sentence so as to eliminate the "hence". DS 03:12, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Isthmus de Tehuantepec

Hello,

would you mind putting this picture Image:Isthmus of Tehuantepec.jpg on Commons ?

Best

Poppypetty 19:04, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well not really. Usually, you have to reupload it (or take the version in wiki en, save it on your computer, and then upload it in commons). However, you can keep the same name and then add on the file in wiki en {{now in Commons|}} so that it will be deleted after further verifications.

Buckwheat

I'm curious as to why you removed the interwiki links for Buckwheat (-da,eo,pl). -- Kbh3rd 13:24, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Those weren't about Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) but about the genus Fagopyrum.
I corrected both articles, and links in all the interlinked wikis
(only remaining is zh:荞麦 which is about the plant and about the noodles (Soba) and has incoming links from both of those articles)

Your RfA

Hi, just noticed this on your RfA: "I have started a moderate number of articles (listed on my talk page)." I think you were referring to your user page and not talk page in that sentence. You may want to correct the phrase and its link, thought that it is best to inform you rather than do it myself. All the best for your RfA. --Gurubrahma 19:26, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How to write good

Why are foreign words and phrases not apropos, but foreign grammar endorsed? That seems inconsistent. -Acjelen 17:20, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Such errant criticism of my user page is something up with which I will not put![1] (Joking, of course!) I, as documented, didn't write the "How to Write Good" list. But I heartily endorse a straightforward and unornamented style and uncomplicated (but correct) grammar as essential to good prose, and that's basically what it's about. Unfortunately, it is sometimes more easily said than done. -- Kbh3rd 20:51, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
If you endorse correct grammar, then you will understand my confusion over "How to Write Good", as points 2 and 7 are incorrect. Point 2 is a little iffy since it seems to present not ending a sentence with a preposition as a matter of taste, which it certainly is. Point 7 is, however, just wrong. If Latin-obsessed 19th-century grammarians told everyone wearing pants was wrong, I don't think the toga would make a come-back. -Acjelen 04:02, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not so sure about splitting infinitives. For example in the Wikipedia article on "Cryptoexplosion" you'll find "are eventually determined" which seems completely fine to me (despite inifinitive splitting). (I like parantheses, too.) The article would not read any better if "eventually" were moved outside "are determined."

Floyd: The Greatest (?) Caver Ever

I have only been there as a tourist -- I am not a caver. Business used to have me going by Mammoth Cave several times, and I have taken most of the tours, and seen Floyd Collins' grave and Sand Cave. Have not made it to Crystal Cave, though -- not that it is open, but I presume one can hike to the entrance. I got Trapped! for my wife a few years ago, and she read it. Last week I made it back to the cave after a long absence, and decided to read the book myself. I read everything thro' the burials, and am now in the retrospective portion. Once I finish the book, I will try to remember to reevaluate the article. — Eoghanacht talk 13:27, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gettysburg Address

Thanks for the feedback on the Gettysburg Address article. Actually, page 1 of the Bliss document is referenced by a footnote in the article, which directs readers to http://www.papersofabrahamlincoln.org/images/GABliss1.jpg. By examining that page, you'll notice that in Lincoln's own hand, the word either reads "battlefield" or "battle field" depending on how you interpret his handwriting. However, it definitely does not read "battle-field." Bart 15:39, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Benedict Arnold

Please leave the changes to the above article and don't make it subject to your personal views of the man. If you need to to have a look at a more neutral biography of him, look here: http://www.benedictarnold.org/ Thanks!

In retrospect, "American traitor" is as POV as "British hero". It's all in how you look at it, and that's the definition of "point of view", isn't it? I should have looked farther back in the article's history to see that there had been much better NPOV wording used previously and reverted to that. Hint: before making a drastic change in an established article, consider bringing the subject up on the article's discussion page so that a conensus can be reached and tit-for-tat reverts can be avoided. -- Kbh3rd 05:19, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nile reversions

I am somewhat amused by all the reversions in Nile. It seems that you have reverted to my last version and I have reverted to your last version at various times. You must have Nile on your watchlist, as I do. I am also somewhat mystified as to why a seemingly uncontroversial subject such as river would attract so much vandalism. I’m sure you have observed that a high percentage of all edits to Nile are vandalism and reversions. ◎DanMS 20:17, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

With frequent vandalism it can sometimes be a challenge to keep the versions straight and to revert to known clean version that doesn't have some other vandalism hidden elsewhere. Why the Nile? Who knows. I have a large watch list (~790 articles) that I spend a considirable amount of time patrolling. Napoleon, John F. Kennedy, and Stupidity see a lot of action. (How I let that last one on my watch list I don't know!) -- Kbh3rdtalk 21:00, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is a challenge sometimes, keeping track of the good versions. Just a few days ago I reverted a reversion, not because the editor was wrong about the reversion—he was correct—but because he did not go back far enough. I reverted back even one version further than he did. Oh, well...I suppose it’s the price to pay of having an open-source encyclopedia. ◎DanMS 21:14, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I enjoyed your “How to write good”. It seems that one contributor above did not understand that it is humor. ◎DanMS 21:18, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I notice your contact with this user. He is suspected of being a sock puppet of three other accounts, all of which continuously upload images with no source, description, and all marked as public domain or norightsreserved, which may be the case in some circumstances, but due to the users suspected dishonesty it is possible that their claim that permission was given to use the information in Eugen Suchoň was not legit. An outside opinion would be appreciated on their rfc if you have time Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Antidote. Thanks, Arniep 23:22, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... I've read that page but am not clear on the details of the controversy. I could follow all the links and look at all the referenced change logs, but except for my exchange about the permission for the Suchoň article I've had no contact with him, as far as I know. Therefore I don't know that I could anything more than any other man on the street. As I noted on the talk page, the request for permission for use of the Suchoň text could have been more specific as to the license terms. But that's not a sin and quite understandable if the user is indeed new to Wikipedia and not a sock puppet. But independent of the Antidote controversy, I may follow up with the source of the copyrighted material in Suchoň and ask for confirmation that he's copacetic with a GFDL license. -- Kbh3rdtalk 00:00, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

well thank you very much. But I can cycle IP's if neccessary.

This site is a JOKE!

About your little comment on what I edited. What I do NOT like, is that people EVERYWHERE are using this website to write research papers, when anyone like me, can come in and write whatever they would like. It is not a scholarly website and I would like if you could put that on every page. Children in junior high, high school, or even some in college, like myself, do not read disclaimers on an encyclopedia website. This is no encyclopedia. This is a joke. I do not care if I can no longer write childish stuff on this so-called encyclopedia. At least, for the sake of others, make it mandatory to read the disclaimer or something. Thank you so much!

Re: Aurora

Thank you, whoever you are. I feel rather frustrated by the different commands of Wiki. For instance, I hope I am replying to you here--but am not sure, and if not, wonder how to do it.

I have many years of experience writing HTML (in text mode--not using any translator, I know commands). I wish I could use it here. That is why I have to rewrite the sandbox so often: I get strange unexpected results too frequently.
Does there exist a dictionary HTML--Wiki equivalents?

If you want to see what I have done, look up

 http://www.phy6.org/

And thanks for the encouragement. BTW, I will be 74 day after tomorrow.

Thanks for the info

The signature is written in Japanese, and it only renders on computers with Asian font enabled, thanks for the info. I thought wikipedia has it's own "font" that can render Asian fonts correctly, since it rendered Korean text on my computer while I dont have Korean font installed. I will change it ASAP. ^^ --山本一郎 03:17, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Summary Execution

Just because you do not celebrate something does not make it false. I had no idea the Wik dealt so summarily with harmless new information. Good job!

No, I don't celebrate "Animal Christmas", and according to Google, neither does anyone else. BTW, there are other sites where you can write whatever crosses your mind. Merry Christmas. — Kbh3rdtalk 04:28, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Andy Samberg page

Hi,

I hope I'm doing this correctly - sincere apologies if I should have posted this feedback elsewhere!

I'm not sure why my edit to the Andy Samberg entry was considered vandalism. I added the legitimate category nerdcore as a descriptor for the "Lazy Sunday" digital short that premiered last week on Saturday Night Live. It wasn't meant as a malicious edit, it's a honest description of the material given its content. Could you please explain why it was considered vandalism?

Thanks! :)

Hmmm.. I don't really recall, but looking at the diff, it may have been that "hilarious" struck me as violating Wikipedia's neutral point of view mandate. I scan a lot of pages on vandal patrol (it's amazing how much defacement goes on), and when I came across it that probably jumped out at me as not being NPOV. However, rather than using the adminstrator's "rollback" function to revert with one click (it can be addictive), I should have removed just that word, leaving the Chronicles of Narnia bit that you added, and saved my change with an explanation in the edit summary. I apologize for that. (And thanks for your polite query – I usually get trashed by vandals who don't appreciate my reverting their pages of drivel and obscenities.) — Kbh3rdtalk 04:43, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! Just so you know, *all I added* was the word "nerdcore". I didn't add "hilarious" or even "Chronicles of Narnia". The previous description said "hardcore" - I just changed it to the more accurate "nerdcore." Thanks for maintaining the pages! :)

I'm confused. Oh, well ... — Kbh3rdtalk 03:29, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

it should either be deleted or moved. Blue mary isn't even Spanish. --Dangerous-Boy 19:45, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh come now.

No sense of humour? That hitchhiker's guide reference was clever and fit well with the subject, and you know it.

Deleting individual edits

Step 1) Delete the page. Step 2) Select only the edits that you wish to restore. This is a tedious process because the feature requires you to select the edits you want to keep, while not selecting the edits you want to ditch. This can be annoying for articles with a lengthy edit history. Step 3) Undelete the page. The edits in question will no longer exist.

May wanna double check it to see if they've changed it to work the other way around since last I did it, though.

All the best.

German Americans page...

You just reverted edits on this page. I was in the process of organizing it. Can you please change it back? Right now its just a long list of names. Every ethnicity page is organized. I want to make it easier to find out who did what etc.

My apologies! That was an entirely accidental slip of the mouse. For future reference, anyone can revert a page to a previous edit. The instructions are at Wikipedia:Revert. — Kbh3rdtalk 03:48, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Why did you tell me that when i put on the cranium the board game page that gnilleps is spelling backwards that it was nonsense. It is not nonsense it is deswcribing the meaning of the word gnilleps.
