The Amazing Race 16 is the upcoming sixteenth installment of the reality television show The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race 16 will feature several teams of two, each with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the world. The show will premiere on CBS on February 14, 2010, at 8 pm EST/PST.[1]

Production

Development and filming

The upcoming sixteenth season spans 40,000 miles (64,000 km) across five continents and nine countries, including Chile, France, England, and for the first time, Seychelles.[2][3]

Racers were observed leaving Los Angeles International Airport on November 28, 2009.[4]

Racers were reported checking into a Pit Stop in Puerto Varas, Chile on December 2.[5] Filming of the show has also been reported in Bariloche, Argentina,[6] and production crews were reported to be seen around Singapore, particularly in the Bugis area and the Singapore Flyer.[7]

Cast

Applications were originally due on July 10, 2009 but was later extended. Semi-finalist interviews were held sometime in August 2009 and the final casting interviews took place in Los Angeles around September and October 2009. Filming took place around November and December 2009.[8][9]

Notable cast members include Big Brother 11 houseguests Jordan Lloyd and Jeff Schroeder, 2007 Miss South Carolina Teen USA Caite Upton, and Cleveland Indians third-base coach Steve Smith. Caite, at age 20, is the youngest contestant in the show's history (not including the Family Edition which was Austin Black, age 8, and Carissa Gaghan, age 9), while Jody Kelly, at age 71, is the oldest contestant in the show's history. Other racers include cowboys, detectives, a lesbian couple, high school sweethearts, and attorney moms.
