Thanks for the set of words. I realised that my set was inappropriate but wondered how far I should go. I knew not to include certain facts. I also realise that I cannot 'out' the Headmaster who told him not to go to Cambridge as he would not fit in.

My 'helper' is away from base for a couple of days so I will not get back to you until early next week.

I am a UK expat myself, of course!--Derrynoel (talk) 12:14, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I started out in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, moved to Middlesbrough in time for secondary school [with Roland, of course]. I went into teaching in UK but moved to NSW in the early 70s. Since then, I've spent the last 25 years in Melbourne.--Derrynoel (talk) 21:58, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Feedback

Hello UKexpat. I want to invite your feedback on this draft article on the international media reaction to Barack Obama's 2008 election. Please note that images are available to improve the article's look and will be added once the page is published. Please leave comments on the draft's discussion page. Thank you!--Amandaroyal (talk) 20:42, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am learning so much, thanks for your help

About the image i want to load. It is my own picture that is from my family. Joseph Olney is my great great grandfather. My mother allowed David Johnson to use the photo in his books. That is where he got the photo. I do not know what the conditions of that release were. Probably none.

Ratmuffin (talk) 23:28, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

My apologies! I am participating in the Wikimedia conference at Museums & the Web in April as a moderator representing art museums, so you'd think I'd know better about Wiki protocols. Having seen this entry I took it upon myself (wrongly, it turns out) to add citations in mainstream media publications---the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. I don't believe I substantively altered any of the biographical language.

If these citations should be removed, I would be happy to do it--but don't want to make yet more of a mess of things!

My researcher has come up with the following from 'Google Scholar' and the 'Web of Science'. These illustrate the frequency with which people have cited Roland's work. How should I use this info?

NB

Roland’s first ever paper, published in 1975, has done very well with 123 & 56 respec. It is still being cited – already, someone has cited it in a 2010 publication. This is quite remarkable, as the Journal no longer exists and the paper does not appear on any journal web pages.

Incidentally, Roland’s second book (Backhouse, Roland C., Program construction and verification, 1986) was translated and published in Dutch, French and German.

Need help with disambiguation

{{helpme}}

Hello,

I am writing the article for Wendy Wilkins, provost of University of North Texas, and I would like to see about having her page (the one I am creating) come up as the first page when someone searches for "Wendy Wilkins." Right now a short article about a character in a book comes up first (being the only one currently) and I am wondering if we could arrange it so that my Wendy Wilkins comes up first, and the character Wendy Wilkins comes up under disambiguation?

I am finding all of this a little confusing and I'm not sure it can even be done before my page goes live, but any help I can get from anyone would be fantastic. Thank you! --CLEARllh (talk) 18:05, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism by an IP account and his/her (possibly) 4 sockpuppets

Extended content

User talk:Ukexpat referred me to the WP:AIV, buy I can't seem to get it posted, so I'll put it in his/her page as well as a few others.

"I was referred to WP:AIV from the Help Desk in the event of continued vandalism.

The articles affected are:
Caribou (musician) and Richard Manitoba.

I believe there is one person using 4, possibly 5 accounts for vandalism.

The one with the oldest record is Special:Contributions/Urbanshocker.
It has a record of 29 edits, most of Manitoba (disambiguation), as well as Caribou (musician), and Richard Manitoba.
It’s been blocked for 1 week.

The account with the most recent activity is: Special:Contributions/User:66.65.94.122.
13 out of its 15 edits where of Caribou and Richard Manitoba.
A few days ago, it was blocked for 31 hours.

After it was given its last warning a few days before that, Special:Contributions/Richeye came into existence. It made 6 edits: 5 of Richard Manitoba, 1 of Caribou (musician).

After the blocking of User talk:66.65.94.122, and within minutes after User:Urbanshocker was blocked came Special:Contributions/User:69.115.14.50, and Special:Contributions/Bxbmber‎ less than 5 hours after that. Each have only one edit: Richard Manitoba, same vandalism.

All remove my edits to Richard Manitoba, which has been sourced and supported by others; or add a non-sourced superfluous line in Caribou (musician)about Richard Manitoba being his legal and stage name.

I admit I lost my temper over this, and vented here Wikipedia:Help desk#How do I deal with this edit fight.3F, Though I’m feeling a bit better.

I request the following:
(1) that all of these accounts be blocked
(2) at the very least, be marked as sockpuppets—I suppose of the account with the earliest history (though I’m unsure what WP policy is of this)
(3) and mostly the 2 articles (with my edit) be protected. One might also include Manitoba (disambiguation) which he vandalized in the past.

Thank you."

Thank you for fixing the Teampeacock.jpg image; I can see it in my browser! That's something I will put away in my toolbox as that happens on other occasions as well, not just Wikipedia. Thanks RE: Ethics Question

Thanks for the suggestion, I've now posted my question to both recommended areas. Stumark (talk) 17:04, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Have you had any luck engaging with the author? So far they seem to be unwilling to communicate via talk pages or edit summaries. I have some concerns about the notability of the subject (given that it's a PhD thesis that's only referenced by 1 journalist (who I can't find on google), and given the lack of communication, I'm tempted to take this to AfD. Thoughts? -- Bfigura (talk) 19:31, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Eccleshall

Hi again,

I've finally managed to find time to add paper press reference to my article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Beeflin/Chris_Eccleshall. Please could you have a look and see if the page is now more likely to survive and give me any more tips if you have any.

Thanks, Beeflin (talk) 19:38, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
