Re: Thanks, suggestion

Hello Nihonjoe, thanks for your note. I appreciate your kind comments and constructive feedback. My editing pattern on Wikipedia is largely due to personal choice, of course, but has in part been influenced by past incidents. Some of the subjects I have worked on, such as those related to Korean martial arts, tend to be contentious in one way or another. With the editing pattern I use, if other contributors disagree with some of my edits, it is straightforward for them to target the exact changes they disagree with. I have also been on the other side, where someone has made substantial changes in one edit and it has been more work for me to disentangle things. I appreciate your comment on others trying to make edits at the same time, but it has only happened to me once (to a significant extent)—and in that particular case, both of us were working together (with mutual awareness) to prepare the article for GA review. For whatever reason (e.g., time of day), I don't find that I clash with other editors on this point, but I am aware of the potential for unintended clashing. Thanks again for your note. Janggeom (talk) 01:21, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On a different note, given your role in WP Japan, if you (or anyone else from WPJ) would be interested in reviewing or providing feedback on Japanese martial artists' biographies, I have worked on several of these over the last few months. I would be very pleased to help implement changes so that these articles conform better to Wikipedia (and relevant WikiProjects') policies and style guidelines. Thanks. Anime protection

Hi Nihonjoe, You indefinitely protected Anime on 26 March 2010 due to edit warring. Do you really think this is still necessary? (Just wondering^_^) G.A.Stalk 17:35, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've unprotected it. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:51, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I was not aware of this odd behaviour. I will take appropriate measures to avoid conflits. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 09:40, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Talky Backy

Hello, Nihonjoe. You have new messages at Pedro's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Stop wasting my time

Being an admin is a volunteer job and you're not being forced to do anything, so if you're unwilling, unable, or just too lazy to do the job you signed up for, perhaps you should leave it to those many, many admins who are willing to actually do so. Go do something else productive.

Even more to the point, the source of these "stale" -- what a meaningless term that is -- reports are from the "New Pages" unpatrolled backlog -- exactly as suggested on the page itself. Let me quote that button that I clicked: Please consider patrolling pages from the back of the unpatrolled backlog. Perhaps you can take up your crusade with whomever was responsible for setting the standard I'm working from. --Calton | Talk 14:30, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There's also another quote you may want to note, from the UAA page to which you're posting: "Accounts that haven't edited in 3 weeks or more should not be reported." Being an admin doesn't mean blocking everyone who gets reported to UAA or AIV or deleting everything that arrives at CSD. It means making a decision based on facts and policy. Based on the current set up, accounts that haven't edited in some time don't need to be blocked. So we must decline to block, which does indeed take up some of our time. If you'd cease posting usernames whose block we both know will be declined, it'll save everyone time. Otherwise, try to get consensus to change the policy. Tactical Hapkido

Just curious why you put the AfD for Tactical Hapkido on the Japan related discussion list? Hapkido is a Korean art and Tactical Hapkido is an American adaptation of it. Where does Japan fit in? Niteshift36 (talk) 01:20, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It came up in a search for Japan-related deletion discussions. No reason other than that. Japan is in between Korea and America, so that's where it fits in. ;p ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:53, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It came up because Tactical hapkido is in Category:Hapkido which is in Category:Dō which is in Category:Japanese culture. Perhaps Category:Hapkido should be removed from Category:Dō? ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:00, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think it should be removed, since that Hapkido is a wholly Korean art. Given the real life animosity between Japanese and Korean styles, I'm not sure who thought it was a good idea to put it in that category anyway. Niteshift36 (talk) 10:51, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you can keep an eye on Category:Hapkido in case someone adds it back in. Also, you may want to review the Hapkido article as it implies that there may be some Japanese origin to the art. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:58, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:Andrew D Burns

You apparently deleted the page I posted last week calling it "blatant spam" ... I put in for a user name change from revadburns to Andrew D Burns so that it would be a valid user account, but that apparently didn't take either.

Of course, I did not copy and save the data on the page, so it's lost forever?

Is there a way to get the page data back so when it's re-submitted that I don't have to spend the hours it took to build it all over again?

Thanks for your help!

Your requested username won't work because all you're doing here is advertising for yourself and your ministry. That is specifically disallowed (see WP:NOTADVERTISING, WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY, and WP:COI for more details). You are also removing cleanup tags placed on Life Application Gospel Ministries International without specifically addressing those concerns. That is also not acceptable. Unless you are planning to stop trying to use Wikipedia a promotional venue, none of the pages you've created will remain here. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:27, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I saw your request for help on User_talk:Durova in deciphering a letter from William Seward to Joseph Heco. If it helps, allow me to offer you my partial reading of the second page:

Thanks for your help. I've now figured out all but three words (the word after "pleasing" on the first page, and the "? of ?" part at the very end of the letter (under "Kanagawa"). ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:55, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Barak Obama's Education

I can, but don't want to go into the whole deal. So....

Where can I find any info. on Wiki about his education?

One thing: I've seen several posts on a variety of blogs that "no one can verify he 1... went to Harvard. 2... was Editor of Law Review. 3... ?? Well, nuts! I already said...

I don't see a section on his Education in the Discussion on Barak Obama.

I really liked your patience with "Mythsearcher" on the Obama Disambiguation page. Hope for some of that myself from time to time. AND.......

Do NOT be "put off" by my handle: I voted for him and, after 38yrs. (since 1964 when, "in my heart I knew he was right", I went for Goldwater) and, after the Neo-Cons, I might have voted for the "...deevil, he'sself".

Chaney has expressed great contempt for "paleocons". Right back 'atchya, Dickie.....

Can you iMAgine how long I woild've 'ran on' if I hadn't promised, sort of, not to? (Paleocon44 (talk) 22:28, 26 April 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Um...what? I'm not sure what you're asking here. Could you be more precise and concise? ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:31, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
WOW!! THAT was FAST! Anyway, I stumbled onto some things in the Archives. But to summarize: I've been reading some posts, blogs, etc that Obama's education levels, awards, etc (some or all is not clear. At least, some important ones: President of Harvard's Law Review is one) are NOT "verified" and/or NOT "verifiable". Is there anything in Wiki, or elsewhere on this subject? Can the truthfulness either way be verified? (Paleocon44 (talk) 23:24, 26 April 2010 (UTC))[reply]
I have no idea. You might get better results asking on the talk page of the Barack Obama article. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:56, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Caddit CSD

I realize that this article has 4 refs, but if you look at them none of them actually assert any notability to the company. They are all supporting tertiary things like features of their products or the fact that it's a subsidiary of another company. If you still don't think it's a CSD just let me know. Thanks! Protected area stub sort Shikotsu-Toya

Hi there. I do not think it is necessary to add the stub sort template for protected areas to the individual features within Shikotsu-Toya National Park: Lake Tōya‎, Showashinzan‎, Mount Yōtei, Mount Tarumae‎, Mount Fuppushi‎, Mount Eniwa‎, and Lake Kuttara‎. The article for the national park already has the template and that is enough. If you start labelling individual features, then where do you stop? Do you mark every town, train station, ropeway, river, etc.? I am removing the template. -imars (talk) 05:55, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be ridiculous. It's for protected areas, not towns, trains stations, and ropeways. It helps in locating stub articles for protected areas of Japan so they can be worked on. Please do not remove the stub tag again. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:11, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But a mountain and a lake are not protected areas per se. OK towns are perhaps a little extreme, but there are times that villages are considered cultural properties within a park, right? I do not see that there is a clear line where you stop marking the articles. In my opinion it makes sense to tag the article that is directly about the protected area. Anything else dilutes the meaning of the tag. -imars (talk) 06:30, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mountains and lakes are very often protected areas. There are thousands of protected mountains and lakes all around the world. As for a "line", do you see me marking train stations, towns, and ropeways? The tag is meant to mark protected natural areas such as national/quasinational parks, and (if there are articles on them) protected natural areas within those parks. There is nothing wrong with having more than one stub tag on an article, and you can clearly see I'm not tagging everything in sight with the stub tag. I've been around the block a few times, so please give me the benefit of the doubt here. I'm not going to go crazy and tag everything in Hokkaidō. I promise. :) ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:34, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fundamo page deletion

Hi Nihonjoe

I'm still yet to understand why the Fundamo page was deleted. Fundamo is an industry leader in Mobile banking. Fundamo is spearheading Mobile payments in developing countries. Lastly, it's competitors are on Wikipedia.

Can you please explain to me why it is not noteworthy?

Many Thanks ShaneeA 13h41 (+200 UTC), 29 April 2010

Correct redirect

Hi Nihonjoe, I was wondering about Ganogerma lucidum. It was a redirect to Lingzhi, but since that is now itself a redirect I changed it to redirect to Lingzhi mushroom. However I noticed that the correct spelling of the mushroom is Ganoderma lucidum (d not g) which is already a redirect. Is the Ganogerma spelling a likely error for a redirect? Or would it make sense to delete the Ganogerma redirect? Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:04, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If there isn't anything linking to it, I'd just delete it. It's an unlikely typo. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:43, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it is deleted. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:31, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive editing at this article

Hi there. Would you please be so kind and look thoroughly into this issue? There's an editor who keeps changing the type of album from "studio" to "demo" on this article. He has no reliable verifiable sources to back up his edits, he tried unsuccessfully to have the article deleted alltogether.

The editor has a long history of disruptive editing, blocks, topic bans etc. As his own account is already blemished as such, he basically has nothing to lose if he receives a further block for edit war. This is why I believe he is so adamant in continuing his reverts, wanting to engage me in an edit war.

I am asking you, and have sent the same message to other admins online, to please thoroughly look into this issue. I have reported the whole incident to both Ani and Avi, yet to no avail. Thank you. Amsaim (talk) 21:00, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're forum shopping at this point. You should be discussing this on the talk page of the article in question, not bringing it up at ANI and AVI (as the issue has nothing to do with administrator issues or vandalism). ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:26, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

?

i don't understand why my created page for all we know was deleted; i posted a {{hangon}} on the talk page, stating that i needed some more time to collect sources...could you please clarify? Qotsa37 (talk) 16:41, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{Hangon}} tags are not binding (they state, "Note that this request is not binding, and the page may still be deleted if the page unquestionably meets the speedy deletion criteria, or if the promised explanation is not provided very soon." right on them). As you placed the tag about nine hours before it was deleted, and you never bothered to explain why it shouldn't be deleted, it was deleted because it "unquestionably [met] the speedy deletion criteria". I sugget creating a sandbox version of the page in your userspace (perhaps at User:Qotsa37/For All We Know (band)) and making sure it meets the notability requirements before moving it to the main encyclopedia space. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:43, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
