Thanks for creating this article! As an unofficial church historian, I have plenty of sources about RP ministers, but I never knew he was a coach until after I saw the article. Nyttend (talk) 19:06, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Funny! I never knew he was a minister until you added the info!--Paul McDonald (talk) 21:32, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanups

Yes, some people archive. I am not one of them. Please don't take offense: if you want to review an old discussion, feel free check out the page history (and yes, I only keep the stuff I wanna keep--hey, it's my talk page...). I do keep relevant discussions for as long as they are... well... relevant.--Paul McDonald (talk) 16:30, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

nested

Hi. Just a quick comment. Nested parameter (|nested=) is not used anymore since banners are automatically nested when inside WikiProjectBannerShell. In fact, some bots clean it. Please avoid adding it in the future. Thanks and happy editing! --Magioladitis (talk) 08:23, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

cool! Thanks!--Paul McDonald (talk) 20:35, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

College football coaches

I noticed you create many college football coaches' articles. Nice work, keep it up. I have one concern, however, about some of what you are putting in each one. The last sentence in every coach's article end with this pre-written sentence (with the statistical values being variables, obviously):

"This ranks him (rank) at (school) in terms of total wins and (rank2) at (school) in terms of winning percentage."

My concern is that putting such a temporal statement into any article, let alone so many of them, actually does more harm than good. Because schools' coaching records, insofar as the ranks of each coach in terms of total wins and winning percentage, change every single year, someone would have to go in and update those statements at the conclusion of every single football season. And, to be honest, I don't think anyone on Wikipedia is willing to scour coaching articles for a reason as monotonous as that. The one exception to having those ranks is if the football program is officially defunct (like NYU, Hofstra, Northeastern etc.). At that point what's done is done and no new coaches are going to disrupt the balance.

I apologize if I come off as attacking you because that is the opposite of my intention. I just wanted to point out a concern of mine that deals specifically with coach articles that you were responsible in creating. I'm actually happy to have someone else as voracious at creating every possible coaching article as me (at this typing I've done more than 260, and all in the past 2 months). Jrcla2 (talk) 21:40, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're not wrong at all. I noticed that and started changing the method to show "As of conclusion the 2009 season" or whatever year I had the data from. I've been going back to change them as I can to make the articles more accurate. The even better news is that as these skeleton articles get written, they often get modified, updated, and end up being much more than just a little stub article.
Be sure to read WP:CFBWEST for some tips on making college footbal articles a little bit more "immune" from DRVs. Nothing is perfect, but it's a good resource. Keep up the great work!--Paul McDonald (talk) 04:05, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Did you intend to put WikiProject College football/Unreferenced BLPs in Wikipedia address space, e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Unreferenced BLPs? If so, you might want to move it. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 20:17, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

THanks! Looks like someone fixed it. (never try to edit wikipedia from your iphone no matter how bored you get in your meeting)--Paul McDonald (talk) 18:45, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Directional Michigan

Instead of me going through and reverting all your edits, I'm going to just post here. I have a HUGE problem with linking "Directional Michigan" to all the CMU/EMU/WMU school and athletics articles. It puts undue weight on a derogatory term. — X96lee15 (talk) 03:27, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the article again, I'm going to nominate it for deletion again. Just a head's up. — X96lee15 (talk) 03:29, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I guess. Seems kind of silly because it's a more widely-known and used term now than a few years ago. You could revert the edits if you want, I was simply putting in links because the page had an orphan tag on it. Not sure why you think it's a "derogatory term" though...--Paul McDonald (talk) 03:30, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

College Football/BLP "assignments" project

Paul, I amended your instructions at the top of the above-referenced project page. I asked that instead of being removed from the table, that participants put a line through the completed players name, and when all are completed to add  Completed. I did this for two reasons: (1) If members see that others have actually completed their "assignments" --> that may be an incentive for them to get busy. (2) By leaving them in the table, members can click on the completed work for both personal enjoyment and to "see how it's done".--Hokeman (talk) 18:54, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AWESOME! That's collaboration, man!--Paul McDonald (talk) 20:45, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Paul, I noticed that some of the users in the table are not active anymore, and the "Active Users" list on the main project page has not been updated in a while. I'd be happy to take some of their pages also. Eagles 24/7 (C) 02:37, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great! We can knock this out fairly quickly!--Paul McDonald (talk) 02:55, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the barnstar. My preliminary searches for Tom Hammond are yielding very little by way of reliable sources that don't revert right back to wikipedia. The New York Daily News for example cites wikipedia as it's source. Dincher (talk) 19:45, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Google News archive search is a very good way to get reliable sources from newspapers and websites that date back very far. Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:06, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Glen Jackson (Collegiate wrestler and hurdler)

Just wanted to let you know I added some info to the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Glen Jackson (Collegiate wrestler and hurdler) discussion. Your assumptions were a bit off so I wanted to add some relevant facts. Even if you were right, I'd argue that he fails WP:ATH, but that's your call. AfD nomination of L. William Caine

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is L. William Caine. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/L. William Caine. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:04, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Brad Childress update

I have added about fifteen citations to the Brad Childress article. I also re-wrote some sections, and changed some headings. Let me know what you think. [[D-free]] (talk) 19:19, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My Apologies

I fixed a typo on Steve Fanara about two years ago and made a crude comment on the history page about the literacy rate dropping. I always felt bad about it and hope you never took it personally. Anyway, I'm sorry.
