Template:Contains Korean text Kim Hyo-yeon (born September 22, 1989), better known by her stage name Hyoyeon, is a South Korean recording artist and entertainer. She is a member of Korean girl group Girls' Generation, formed by SM Entertainment in 2007, known for being the main dancer.

Biography

Hyoyeon was born in Incheon, South Korea on September 22, 1989. She is ambidextrous and grew up with her parents and her younger brother Kim Mingu. She auditioned for SM Entertainment at the age of 11 at the SM Casting System in 2000, which makes her the third longest SM-trained Girls' Generation member after Jessica (7 years and 6 months) and Seohyun (6 years and 6 months). Hyoyeon herself said had no intentions to audition. Her mother was a fan of SM Entertainment's boy band H.O.T. and brought her to the SM offices in the hopes, perhaps, of seeing them.[1] For her audition, Hyoyeon danced.[2] She trained for 6 years and one month, acknowledged as SM's best dancing trainee.[citation needed] In 2004, she was sent to study Mandarin Chinese in Beijing, China alongside with Super Junior's Siwon.

Pre-debut and training background

Hyoyeon's formal dance training seems to have started with Latin dance. She displayed her experience in Salsa on KBS Global Talk Show[3]. Her Latin dance teacher went on to introduce her to a hip-hop school, presumably the Winners Dance School. In addition, she studied Jazz dance.[4]

She enrolled in Winners Dance School, a famous dance school in South Korea specializing in popping, locking, animation and various other hip-hop styles. At the school she performed in the duo Little Winners with Miss A's Min. Little Winners was spotlighted in 2004 by HipHoper.com.

She was BoA's silhouette dancer during a performance at M.net KM Music Festival 2005.[5] She received dance instruction from the Electric Boogaloos[6] and top choreographers such as Nick Bass, Trent Dickens, Kim Hye-rang[7], The Grace's Stephanie, Poppin' Hyun Joon, and Black Beat's Shim Jaewon.[4]

She is widely known as a skilled dancer among Korea's female celebrities, and is often the main dancer in Girls' Generation's special dance stages.

Solo activities

On March 7, 2010 she played a cameo role on SBS Oh My Lady! starring Choi Siwon and Chae Rim with Girls' Generation members Jessica and Sooyoung.[8]
