Welcome to my user talk page!

Please do all of the following:
  • Always link to the text, image, or edit you want to discuss. When linking to an image, use a colon. For example, "[[:Image:Example.jpg]]" produces "Image:Example.jpg".
  • Don't forget to provide a proper Edit Summary for each and every edit, and a proper signature for each and every post to a talk page or notice board. I may revert edits that do not have such features, rather than respond to them.
  • Reply to interactive messages at the location of the original topic to not scatter talk all around, fracturing the discussion. I do have nearly all pages I have posted to recently on my Watchlist. If I missed a comment, please use {{Talkback}} to drop me a short reminder with a link here.
  • Respect my babel boxes. Write in English. I'm also able to communicate in Spanish a bit, but with that language I can't give a guarantee that I will really comprehend the meaning of your message.
  • If you're copying files from any project to Commons, be sure to use the CommonsHelper.
  • If you're copying pics from Flickr, be sure to use Flinfo, the easy way to upload pics from Flickr.
  • If your text or image is lacking source, license, or permission, fix that instead of asking here what is wrong. There should be a message on your talk page explaining things in detail. Apologies for having to be so clear if this message is not related to the matter you would like to address.
  • Post here if you want to reach me, or reply to a post below via the edit link above that post.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Reverting edits

When I try to revert an edit on Huggle because a user removed a speedy deletion template on a page he or she created, it doesn't let me revert the edit(s) instead it says "tag for speedy deletion" instead. Wayne Olajuwon chat 23:27, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The answer is "No", I do not want to tag for speedy deletion instead, I just want to revert the removal of the speedy tag, thank you very much. In this case, Huggle is being overly cautious/helpful.   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:47, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, okay, and if a user or IP Address vandalizes my talk page, will you please revert it? Wayne Olajuwon chat 19:45, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, if it hasn't already been reverted.   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:17, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question

I've recently been in conversation with another editor who recently underwent a username change (his third) and has been waiting for nearly a month for his ~4k contributions to catch up with him. I thought you might know where i could direct him fir assistance from higher-ups. Cheers, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:11, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest commenting on bugzilla:17313, resurrecting Wikipedia talk:Changing username/Archive 3#Stalled_renames, or both.   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:45, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll pass the suggestions along. Much obliged. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:51, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I hope there isn't a two rename maximum.   — Jeff G.  ツ 04:05, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation pages

You recently extensively edited the page Still (disambiguation) (diff), I would like to ask that you, before editing any more dab pages, familiarize yourself with the Manual of Style for disambiguation pages. I would point out two things in particular: 1) Entries on dab pages should be limited to items that are actually ambiguous--that is, those things that could be called by the same name as the ambiguous term. Partial-title matches (such as Still Standing and And Still) should not be included. 2) Descriptions, if needed at all, should be kept to a minimum--just enough to identify the topic. Dab pages are navigation pages; they are layovers on a user's path to actual articles, and the less time a user has to spend on a dab page, the better. A bullet-point version of dab-page style can be found at WP:DDD. Regards, --ShelfSkewed Talk 21:43, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That edit was made using dabfix, a tool created by Dispenser, who is invited to comment on the above. I did not alter the descriptions (taken from the articles themselves), but I did a lot of work sorting all the articles newly mentioned on that page, and added Sill and "and compact discs".   — Jeff G.  ツ 02:11, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's an interesting tool, and I just used it to find several more entries for the surname section. But I think it does require some selectivity in the use of its results. It is great for making copious and thorough suggestions, in other words, but it is not much good at deciding which of its suggestions are actually useful, and its automatic features should not be used as a substitute for some knowledge of dab-page conventions. Regarding the addition of "and compact discs": An album is a format that may be produced in many types of media, including vinyl LPs, CDs, cassettes, 8-tracks, etc. Album covers them all.--ShelfSkewed Talk 04:34, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that information. I guess my dated POV (having grown up with "album" meaning 33⅓-RPM LP vinyl microgroove gramophone record) was showing.   — Jeff G.  ツ 04:50, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Historically, that's modern: they used to be a book of sleeves to hold a set of 45s.—Kww(talk) 05:06, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) The intended use is providing a good starting point for adding and fixing disambiguation pages. To make things even easier I include WikEd for its syntax highlighting and quick preview. Ten minutes with the tool and I can do the work that otherwise takes an hour to do. However, ten minutes is too much effort for some. So, I've include "lazy" buttons to: remove unmodified automatic descriptions and remove the new links sections. — Dispenser 04:56, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks all, I'll try to minimize the descriptions and use {{lookfrom}} and {{intitle}}. And Kww, I had to walk to and from work, over a mile each way, partially uphill each way, as recently as two years ago.   — Jeff G.  ツ 05:26, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: CBST

Hello Jeff G.. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of CBST, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Does not rely on a page that does not exist. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:46, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The page did not exist at the time.   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:47, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Vandalism

I do not appreciate being accused of vandalism. I have corrected an error in the article in question, and yet you keep changing it back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.72.227.126 (talk) 03:58, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stop removing referenced information in favor of your original research.   — Jeff G.  ツ 04:01, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article name is self-explanitory. It said List of Cambodian singers. I'm trying to do like other lists. That is too much for a list.--125.25.15.166 (talk) 15:39, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop destroying it, or list it at WP:AFD.   — Jeff G.  ツ 15:40, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not destroying it, and I won't list at WP:AFD. Boing! said Zebedee does not allow me to do this.--125.25.15.166 (talk) 15:43, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have sought protection for it at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection#List_of_Cambodian_singers_.28edit.7Ctalk.7Chistory.7Clinks.7Cwatch.7Clogs.29.   — Jeff G.  ツ 15:57, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Then it's not a "list" anymore. Look at other list of people. There is too much information[citation needed].--125.25.15.166 (talk) 16:12, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You can see List of Afghan singers and List of Mexican singers. It doesn't have comments and years active. Otherwise rename this article. It's not a list.--125.25.15.166 (talk) 16:18, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Boing! said Zebedee made it a structured list, organized chronologically. See WP:LISTPURP for details. I think that is better than sorting by last name or first name, and much better than the original disorganized list. Do you have a suggestion for a better method of organizing it?   — Jeff G.  ツ 16:23, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't care on sorting so much. But it's currently messed up, when compare the "Before the Khmer Rouge" and "After the Khmer Rouge", is different. Before the Khmer Rouge seems to be a big table with comments, etc, but After seems to have only name and years. Can you make both of them the same? Can be anything. Also please have "Record label" in the table. It's the important part for singer list. More important than years active.--125.25.15.166 (talk) 16:43, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, it's already been to AFD, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Cambodian singers.   — Jeff G.  ツ 16:07, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Yes, it's been to AfD once (in its original form it was full of unsourced non-notable stuff), but survived after being drastically pruned, Our 125.25 friend, however, decided the consensus was wrong and wanted to immediately relist it for deletion again. This person is one of a small number who have been behaving tendentiously for quite some time, refusing to accept anything they are told regarding policy etc, and have regularly been making unsourced (and often nonsensical) changes. There are probably 3 or 4 of them, at least two of whom are children, and they refuse to register accounts and seem to get upset when the rest of us can't tell them apart. As for the article, I think the chronological format (which is how it was originally - I tidied it up a bit) makes sense because of the destruction of Cambodian culture during the Khmer Rouge years and its reconstruction afterwards, and I'd suggest that if anyone wants to alter the format they should get a consensus in their favor on the article's Talk page first. I also favor leaving it semi-protected - they can add requests for changes, with sources, on the Talk page. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 16:43, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. This discussion is closed, in favor of Talk:List of Cambodian singers.   — Jeff G.  ツ 16:46, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There's 5 editors now as I have seen.--125.25.15.166 (talk) 16:59, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are no longer welcome in this discussion as an IP Address. I strongly urge you to create an account for yourself.   — Jeff G.  ツ 17:02, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not so long after this now, even I don't see the ETA for going back the the United States. I suggest two ways for now
1.Unprotect the article for 1 hour and let me do it
2.Do it yourself
I want you to add these

AFD list

Please list List of Cambodian singers at WP:AFD.--125.25.15.166 (talk) 16:02, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did between 15:43 and 15:53, that's why I requested semi-protection rather than relisting at WP:AFD.   — Jeff G.  ツ 16:04, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
