Red Nose Day 2011
Red Nose Day 2011, is a fund raising event organised by Comic Relief. There were a number of events on the run-up to the main live broadcast on BBC One and BBC Two from the evening of 18 March 2011 to early the following morning. Red Nose Day 2011 was part of the "Do Something Funny For Money" campaign.

The BT Red Nose Desert Trek
The BT Red Nose Desert Trek saw Craig David, Ronni Ancona, Lorraine Kelly, Scott Mills, Olly Murs, Dermot O'Leary, Nadia Sawalha, Kara Tointon and Peter White traverse 100 kilometres (62 mi) in the Kaisut Desert in five days with temperatures reaching up to 100 °F (38 °C). It will be broadcast on 17 March 2011.[1]
Comic Relief: Girl On Wire
Helen Skelton traversed a 200 feet (61 m) high tight rope between two towers at Battersea Power Station. She became the first ever British woman to walk a tightrope this high.[2]
Famous, Rich and in the Slums
Famous, Rich and in the Slums, a two-part documentary for Red Nose Day followed Lenny Henry, Samantha Womack, Angela Rippon and Reggie Yates as they were left alone for a week to live, work and survive in one of the most impoverished places on earth – the slums of Kibera, Kenya.
Television and radio
24 Hour Panel People
From midday to midday on 5–6 March, a marathon panel show, titled 24 Hour Panel People, was broadcast live over the official website. The event took in a succession of popular programmes, with David Walliams a constant presence for the whole 24 hours, taking on various roles. The full list of panel shows are listed below:[3]
- The first show was Would I Lie To You? (TV series). All three regulars - host Rob Brydon plus team captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack - were present. Shappi Khorsandi, Fay Ripley and Claudia Winkleman were the other guests alongside Walliams.
- The second show was 8 out of 10 Cats. Jimmy Carr carried out his usual duties as host, while Sean Lock was in his usual captain's role. Walliams filled the other captaincy. The guests were Jamelia, Josh Widdicombe, Jon Richardson and Victoria Coren.
- The third show was Just a Minute, hosted as ever by Nicholas Parsons. Joining Walliams on the panel were Lee Mack, Sheila Hancock and Tony Hawks.
- The fourth show was It's Only TV...But I Like It with the show's former team captain Jack Dee hosting. Ulrika Jonsson and Charlie Brooker were team captains. The guests were Walliams, Danny Wallace, Tom Deacon and Penny Smith.
- The fifth show was The Generation Game with Vernon Kay hosting. Walliams competed with his mother Kathleen. The other team consisted of Miranda Hart and Patricia Hodge, who play mother and daughter in the sitcom Miranda.
- The sixth show was Through the Keyhole with regular host Sir David Frost returning and a panel of Walliams, David Tennant and Patricia Hodge. Dawn Porter was the guide. The celebrity whose house was shown was Ann Widdecombe.
- The seventh show was Blankety Blank, hosted by Paul O'Grady (this time as himself, having only done so before as Lily Savage) Joining Walliams on the panel were Barbara Windsor, David Tennant, George Lamb, Keith Harris and Orville and Stacey Solomon, with Lee Ryan and Duncan James from Blue playing as contestants.
- The eighth show was Mock The Week hosted as usual by Dara O'Briain. Andy Parsons was the only other regular present. Besides Walliams the rest of the panel were Andrew Maxwell, Daniel Sloss, Doc Brown and Seann Walsh, During the show it was announced that Walliams had done 12 hours.
- The ninth show was Celebrity Juice with regular host Keith Lemon and regular panellists Rufus Hound and Jedward. Germaine Greer, Lauren Laverne and Walliams completed the lineup.
- The 10th show was Argumental with Walliams hosting this time. Normal captains Rufus Hound and Marcus Brigstocke were both present, and were joined by with Dara O'Briain and Jo Brand.
- The 11th show was QI with usual host Stephen Fry. Walliams was joined on the panel by Russell Tovey, Jo Brand and Sue Perkins.
- The 12th show was They Think It's All Over with original host Nick Hancock. and former regulars Lee Hurst and Phil Tufnell. Dave Berry, Gabby Logan, Richard Bacon and Walliams completed the panel.
- The 13th show was Call My Bluff hosted by Angus Deayton with Alex Horne, Roisin Conaty, Russell Tovey, Tim Key, Sarah Cawood and David Walliams.
- The 14th show was Give Us A Clue with Sara Cox, Christopher Biggins, Lionel Blair, Una Stubbs, Holly Walsh, Jenni Falconer and David Walliams.
- The 15th show was What's My Line with Stephen K. Amos, Christopher Biggins, Holly Walsh and David Walliams.
- The 16th show was Mastermind hosted by Griff Rhys Jones, with Adam Woodyatt and David Walliams
- The 17th show was Have I Got News For You with host Patrick Kielty, Clive Anderson, Lembit Opik, Holly Walsh and David Walliams.
- The 18th show was Whose Line Is It Anyway? with Clive Anderson, Humphrey Ker, Josie Lawrence, Neil Mullarkey, Tony Slattery and David Walliams
- The 19th and last show was Never Mind The Buzzcocks with Alexa Chung, Chris O'Dowd, Matt Edmonson, Robert Webb, Neil Tennant, Nick Grimshaw as contestants and David Walliams hosting.
Room 101, with Nick Hancock returning as host after 14 years, was originally supposed to have come between They Think It's All Over and Call My Bluff, but was axed after the show ran behind. Paul Merton was advertised to reprise his role as regular team captain on Have I Got News For You but due to illness was replaced by Clive Anderson. Jason Manford was advertised to host Have I Got News For You, but for unknown reasons did not appear at all and was replaced by Patrick Kielty.
BBC Radio 1's Longest Show Ever with Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave for Comic Relief
On 16 March 2011 at 6:30am GMT, Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave began their challenge - BBC Radio 1's Longest Show Ever with Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave for Comic Relief. Originally the challenge was to attempt to transmit for more than 37 hours to break the record for the longest show in BBC Radio 1's history, set by Simon Mayo in 1999. On the day of the challenge starting, the team announced they would attempt to set a brand new Guinness World Record for 'Radio DJ Endurance Marathon (Team)' - aiming to transmit for 51 hours and 30 minutes.[4] At 19:30 GMT on 17 March 2011 (37 hours into the challenge), the BBC Radio 1 record was beaten [5] and had raised £1,009,033 until that point.[6] Following this, at 2310 GMT on 17 March 2011, the new total was £1,144,626.[6]

Comic Relief does Glee Club
On 14 March on BBC One, CBBC created a show for the charity called Comic Relief does Glee Club which lets a group perform music in three varieties (choir, musical theatre and contemporary).

Lord Prescott is going to read the Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4 to raise money for Comic Relief on Saturday 19 March 2011 at approximately 0:48. Comic duo Ant & Dec's Big Red Nose Broadcast aired on 14 March 2011. They appeared on various television shows and radio broadcasts to raise money for this years appeal, and took items to be auctioned off for charity.
UK Industry
Walkers crisps
Snack food manufacturer, Walkers created four new crisps flavours for Comic Relief 2011. Each flavour is named after a British comedian; Frank Skinner's Roast Dinner, Jimmy Con Carrne, Steak and Al Pie and Stephen Fry Up.[7]
Music
The Wanted released the official comic relief 2011 single "Gold Forever" on 13 March. Other Comic Relief singles include George Michael's cover of the 1987 song "True Faith" by New Order and the Take That song "Happy Now" featuring Take That and Fake That consisting of David Walliams, James Corden, John Bishop, Alan Carr and Catherine Tate.[8]

More than a hundred celebrities are to be involved in "Twit Relief", an event on Twitter.[9]

Sack Racing
On 9 March 2011 The London Shoreditch crowd wore sacks as they took part in the world's first night-time, over-18s sack racing event at Village Underground to raise money for Comic Relief. Sponsered by drinks brand, Cafédirect, and is a perfect blend of live music, comedy, DJs, espresso Martinis and a highly-charged sack race tournament. Music will be provided by Dog is Dead, CockNBullKid, Roll Deep. Pre and post race DJ sets will come from T4’s Jameela Jamil, Gavin and Stacey star Mat Horne, BBC 1Xtra DJ Gemma Cairney, Professor Green’s tour DJ DJ IQ, back to back with his lead vocalist Tom Jules and Greg Leigh, The Venus Fury lead singer Iraina Mancini and Ronnie Joice. The sack race contenders include a host of famous faces, overseen by former The Apprentice contender, James McQuillan. There will also be a retro raffle, photo booth and more, bringing the best of fifties fun to the East End. The cost will be £5 with all profits go to Comic Relief.

The 2011 event will take place on Friday 18 March 2011.
The evening will be hosted by Lenny Henry, Fearne Cotton, James Corden, Davina McCall, Michael McIntyre, Graham Norton, Jack Whitehall, Kevin Bridges, Claudia Winkleman and Jonathan Ross. Whitehall and Bridges will host the latenight show with some of their favourite comedy clips in their Comic Relief Late Night Lock In. There will be a special edition of Harry Hill's TV Burp and sketches featuring Smithy from Gavin and Stacey. A special of Outnumbered is set to air as well. There will also be a special episode of the sitcom Miranda,[10] and a special 10-minute episode of EastEnders.[11] Various celebrities will perform a kazoo concert and attempt to break a world record, and the cast of The Inbetweeners have performed something for the appeal. Steven Moffatt has confirmed a set of two four-minute special episodes of Doctor Who.[12] The cast of the 2010 series of The Apprentice will do something for the appeal as well as a group of celebrities will be trained to sing for The Choir. Musical guests will include Adele, Annie Lennox, JLS, Take That and the Wanted.
