Photograph of Lucknow in the Information Box

Just a request, for those who are good at photoshop, is it possible to have a picture with Lucknow's principal monuments placed in boxes, the way Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur (among other Indian cites' pages on Wikipedia) have? It would make a world of difference to the initial look and feel of the page.

Why don't you ask a more experienced photo editor yourself? It will speed up the process. :) MakingTheMarkWassup doc? 17:58, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Restructuring and Reorganizing

I have totally restructured and reorganized this article. I have been working on adding more media to this article and adding references. I also think that the prose of this article needs to be improved upon. I would continue working on abstraction and encapsulation of this article. Article's a minor mess. Seems to be more like a tourist brochure than an encyclopedia article. Amar | Talk 06:15, Jul 8, 2004 (UTC)

It's been more than three years since the above comment was posted, and the article still reads like a tourist brochure. Statements like "Courtly manners, beautiful gardens, poetry, music, and fine cuisine patronized by the Nawabs are well known among Indians and students of South Asian culture and history" are desperately in need of citations and/or revisions. Lucknow may very well be a lovely city, but the entire entry is so loaded with POV that it's almost completely useless. 75.219.231.16 18:12, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is hardly started. I will try an extensive writeup in a couple of days. Surely Lucknow deserves better! -- Mohan Ravichandran
Surely we have to re-do this article as there is abundance of content but every thing seems to be hotch-potch. I had tried to bring some harmony to the article previously but was not successful, probably this time with all you guys we'll do it. --Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haider Rizvi (talk) 05:18, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The image File:Dum style cooking.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following images also have this problem:

it should read 'courtly manors', not manners. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frankieolives (talkcontribs) 04:38, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The population data seems to be fraud

The population data is not as released by the Government of India, and the links for citation also don't justify the data. No website claims that it has touched the 5 million mark.

There is great confusion between data of Lucknow District, Lucknow Metropolitan & Lucknow Urban demographies. Articles need a thorough revision keeping these points in mind.--Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haider Rizvitalk! 05:59, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

Hi, I am proposing that we rewrite the article from a NPOV. Let's just say that words like excellent, quaint don't fit in with the feel of an encyclopedia. Let's shape the content thoroughly so that this city of our's can be a featured city. Atif.t2 (talk) 00:16, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can count me in the drive(but I'll be available back on 2009-X-20).-Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haider Rizvitalk! 07:25, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Faiz, I want to develop a consensus on the number of images in the artcile. I really feel that we should limit them. The pictures of foods and old maps really look unnecessary in an encyclopedic artcile about a city. Maybe we should branch out extra information about Lucknow, Maybe a page like cuisines in Lucknow instead of overstuffing the pages with images. Atif.t2 (talk) 16:44, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Higher education in Lucknow

We have a well established Campus of English and Foriegn Languages Uninversity In Lucknow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.161.114.31 (talk) 07:20, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Linkspam

The lucknow.me domain appears to be an parked domain that is for sale. It has no content beyond the first page. The inclusion of this link in the article only serves the purpose of trying to increase the value of the domain. --Ronz (talk) 15:59, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WHY THE ENGLISH NAME?

Who gave the city its present English name "LUCKNOW" (LUCK NOW)?--88.24.240.40 (talk) 02:56, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is not English name, its just Anglicized form of local name Lakh'nau, it has nothing to do with Luck or now.--Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haidertcs 03:36, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name

We don't seem to have an etymology for the name.

Two characters in the book Kim, highly regarded in India BTW, deliberately pronounce the name as "Nucklao". Which seems "backwards." Why do they do this? Does this altered name mean something in Hindi or Urdu?

It also implies that it was called this as a "nickname". While Kim is fictional, it tends to be quite accurate. The author was raised in India. Student7 (talk) 17:00, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unencyclopedic

This article seems like it was written by the local business promotion bureau and as such contains lots of bias. I'm going to be taking lots of things out of it, especially the stuff that isn't sourced. Anawrahta (talk) 18:37, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
