"Flying Get" (フライングゲット, Furaingu Getto) is the 22nd single by the Japanese girl idol group AKB48, released on August 24, 2011.[1][2]
*Flying get (フライングゲット, lit. "flying score", "flying win", "flying target") is the Japanese Internet slang word for buying a computer game, a music CD, etc. more than a day earlier than its official release date specified by manufacturer.
Release history and information
The participating members were chosen by the 3rd Senbatsu Election.[2] During the release of AKB48's 21st single Everyday, Kachusha", a 3rd senbatsu election ticket was included inside that allows the buyer to register a vote for the member who they want to be in the center position for the group's 22nd single. The Top 21 members who receive the most votes will be participating in the single's the A-side track,[1] while the Top 12 from this line-up will be dubbed as the "media senbatsu" (メディア選抜, "media selection") who will be acting as front members during its promotions. The members who did not reach the Top 21 but were ranked from between the Top 22 to 40 would form the "Under Girls" line-up, and will perform the B-side track of the single.
The title song, "Flying Get", was also the theme song for the Fuji TV drama series Hanazakari no Kimitachi e 'Ikemen Paradise' 2011, starring AKB48's Atsuko Maeda.[2] It is also used for a TV commercial of Peach John's lingerie brand "Heart Bra", starring Yuko Oshima, Haruna Kojima & Tomomi Kasai.[3] The music video for "Flying Get", directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi, lasts over 18 minutes and features a plot similar those of action films.
The single sold 1,025,952 copies on the first day of its release, becoming the first single in Oricon history to sell over 1 million copies on its first day of release.[4][5]
Flying Get has managed to outsell the group's previous single, Everyday, Katyusha, on the last week of sales in 2011 making it the #1 selling single of 2011.[6]
On December 30th, 2011, "Flying Get" was one of the ten songs that competed in the 53rd Annual Japan Record Awards. It eventually won the "Grand Prix Award" at the end of the show, making it the group's song to do so.
