Plot

Picking up where the 1974 original film ends, the citizens of Newt, Texas decide to burn down the farm house of the Sawyer family for their role in aiding Jeb Sawyer, also known as Leatherface, in countless murders. The entire family is presumed dead with the exception of an infant, Heather, who is placed with an adoptive family. Twenty years later, Heather learns of her adoption when a lawyer informs her that her long lost grandmother has left her an inheritance.Picking up after the 1974 film, Leatherface turns of his chainsaw and heads back to his house to where Drayton insults him and starts crying, Leatherface begins to whine, about ten minutes later Sheriff Hooper arrives there at the house telling Drayton he should release Leatherface, the sawyers talk Drayton in to letting Leatherface out so they can trick the cops, however, as they are aboutto send Leatherface outside, Drayton tells Verna any more cops? Verna tells him more, but they ain't cops, Burt Hartman arrives with a angry and furious mob, Sheriff Hooper tells him he got this, get out, Burt tells Hooper he's got this and Hooper should leave, Hooper demands for the officers to get back in the cars, but they don't listen, Drayton grabs his shotgun and asks Sheriff Hooper "What are we doing, Sheriff?! Drayton is stunned as a bullet hits him in the shoulder, the sawyers return fire and a Burt Hartman throws a molotov cocktail in the house, the house catches fire, Drayton opens fire, hitting some of the mob, the house is set on fire, Drayton looks at Leatherface and says to him his final words "Jebdiah, you can't let us die, boy, they will be sawyers, there's always going to be sawyers! The house is set on fire and it presumably kills everyone, everybody watches the house burn, twenty years later after this, we open to a young woman named Heather who enters a mansion with her friends, Heather goes to the local grocery store with her friends while Darryl stays there, he checks out the place, all of a sudden, an unknown figure comes from the side of him and whacks him across the face with a hammer, knocking his teeth out and killing him. they return back to the mansion, Kenny checks in there and finds Darryl's dead body, he turns to Leatherface and runs but Leatherface comes with a chainsaw and slices through his chest, killing him, Ryan and Nikki have sex and they soon spot Leatherface, Leatherface chases after them after he's done chasing Heather, Nikki shoots the barn door and a car comes crashing through the door, it's Heather, Ryan gets in the car and drives off with Nikki and Heather, the car stops and Leatherface tries to stop them with his chainsaw, but he drives off, Leatherface appears right in front of the car and he is soon hit by the car, but he is not killed, Ryan flips the car and is soon stuck, Leatherface comes up behind him and shoves the chainsaw through his chest, presumably killing him, blood flies everywhere, Nikki hides in a cooler until she is shot and killed with a shotgun blast to the head, Heather vists Leatherface and he is making food, Leatherface tries to kill her, but she kicks him in the stomach and runs to the slaughterhouse where Leatherface chases her, Marvin checks the house and is killed by Leatherface, Leatherface changes his mask before chasing after Heather, Heather is found by Burt Hartman and Sheriff Hooper, Sheriff Hooper pulls out his gun, but soon puts his down as he sees Leatherface coming with a big chainsaw, Burt Hartman grabs a baton and shouts Leatherface's name, Leatherface comes up behind him and picks him up by the throat, he cracks his neck and kills him, Sheriff Hooper points the gun at Leatherface, Leatherface grabs a pitchfork and stabs Sheriff Hooper through the chest with it, killing him. Heather founds a pitchfork and is all bloodied, she tries to stab Leatherface, but Leatherface knocks her back and throws his pitchfork, and grabs his chainsaw, he turns it on and gets ready to kill her with the chainsaw, but Ryan arrives and yells HEY! Leatherface turns around and sees Ryan, Ryan taunts Leatherface and Leatherface chases after him, Ryan stays right there and grabs a bucket of gasoline and pours it all over the barn, Leatherface drops his chainsaw, him and Ryan fight brutally, Ryan kicks him in to a tub of gasoline and finds a lighter in which he throws it in to the barn and sets the place on fire, he grabs Heather, him and Heather run as the place explodes, presumably killing Leatherface and setting the place on fire, the film ends with Ryan and Heather leaving Texas, in a post credits scene, Leatherface opens his eyes and throws a meat cleaver at the screen as he is not dead yet.[4][5] Heather and her friends travel through Texas to pick up her inheritance, which, unknown to her, includes her cousin Leatherface.[6]

Cast

  • Alexandra Daddario as Heather Miller: The film follows Heather, who is travelling through Texas with her boyfriend Ryan to collect an inheritance which, unknown to her, includes her cousin Leatherface.[6][7]
  • Dan Yeager as Leatherface: Luessenhop stated that he picked Yeager because he felt a sense of "menace" after witnessing Yeager's 6'6" frame, "farm boy arms", and "brooding brow" stand "quiet and circumspect". He claimed he could no longer think of another actor afterward.[6]
  • Trey Songz as Ryan: Heather's boyfriend, who accompanies her on the trip through Texas.[6]
  • Scott Eastwood as Carl: Town deputy, who has an attraction to Heather.[6][8]
  • Tania Raymonde as Nikki: She is described as a "small town girl with an attitude", and the best friend of Heather.[9]
  • Shaun Sipos as Darryl: A hitchhiker who catches a lift with Heather and her friends; Darryl "knows more than he lets on".[6]
  • Keram Malicki-Sanchez as Ryan's friend[6]
  • Thom Barry as Sheriff Hooper: Town sheriff[6]
  • Paul Rae as Burt Hartman: Town mayor[6]
  • Richard Riehle as Farnsworth: The Sawyer family attorney.[6]
  • Bill Moseley as Drayton Sawyer: Moseley is acting in place of Jim Siedow, who portrayed Drayton in the 1974 film and its sequel, who died in 2003. Director Luessenhop chose Moseley because he felt that he could portray he same "essence" that Siedow brought to the character.[10] Moseley previous portrayed Chop Top Sawyer in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.
  • Marilyn Burns as Verna: Burns portrayed Sally Hardesty in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre.[6]
  • John Dugan as Grandpa: Dugan is reprising his role as "Grandpa" from the 1974 film.[6]

Gunnar Hansen will have a cameo in the 2013 film. Hansen last portrayed Leatherface in the 1974 original film.[6][9]

Production

In January 2007, Platinum Dunes executives Bradley Fuller and Andrew Form stated that the company would not be producing a third film for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.[11] In October 2009, it was announced that Twisted Pictures and Lions Gate Entertainment were attempting to purchase the rights to the franchise, with Twisted Pictures producing and Lions Gate distributing. According to Variety writer Michael Fleming, the plan was to create a contemporary film in 3-D, with Stephen Susco writing the script. The contract, with rights-holders Bob Kuhn and Kim Henkel, would be for multiple films.[12] In May 2009, Lions Gate announced that it would be partnering with Nu Image to produce the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and that John Luessenhop would direct the film. Mazzocone will act as producer, with production set to begin in June 2011. Mazzocone also announced that the story will pick up where Tobe Hooper's original film ends.[4] Debra Sullivan and Adam Marcus were brought in to write the script; Kirsten Elms and Luessenhop worked on rewrites and script polishing.[2]
