The Mayoral election of 2013 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is scheduled to take place on November 5, 2013. The primary election is scheduled to be held on May 21, 2013. Incumbent Democrat Luke Ravenstahl is seeking a second full term as Mayor of Pittsburgh.
Democratic primary
The Democratic primary election is scheduled to be held on May 21, 2013.[1] In addition to the incumbent Mayor, Luke Ravenstahl, several candidates have expressed interest in running. Bill Peduto, who had run for Mayor of Pittsburgh in 2005 (losing in the primary to fellow Democratic City Councilman and eventual winner Bob O'Connor) and again for a short time in the 2007 special election before dropping out prior to the primary, announced his candidacy in December 2012 and was immediately endorsed by Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.[2] City Controller Michael Lamb, who stated that he "has every intention"[3] of running for Mayor, declared his candidacy in mid-January 2013.[4] Jack Wagner, former Auditor General of Pennsylvania, has also publicly expressed interest in the race, but has yet to make a final decision.[3] Democratic Candidate Michael Larkin announced his campaign for the Office of Mayor on February 12th, 2013. Although a speculated candidate in the Democratic primary, Wagner is also reportedly considering an independent general election campaign.[5]
Polling conducted between late December 2012 to mid-January 2013 by Civic Science found that a race between Luke Ravenstahl and Bill Peduto would be within single digit percentage points. The polling firm, however, emphasized that the poll was not intended to provide two-way race numbers and that the polling (which was completed on January 16) did not include Micheal Lamb, who had entered the race the next day. According to the poll, blue-collar primary voters were more apt to support Ravenstahl while white-collar primary voters were more apt to support Peduto.[6][7]
