Last Operation Date

The article says it was December 31, 2009, but the article says that it continued to use Northwest in its reservations systems until January 31, 2010. Would that mean January 31 was the last date Northwest operated? --Shadow (talk) 02:22, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Northwest's FAA Air Operator's Certificate (certificate NWAA301A) was withdrawn from use at midnight Dec 31/Jan 1 with select overseas operations using the callsign until flight completion. At that point only the IATA "NW" code was a booking identifier until PARS's bookings were dumpted into DeltaMatic on Jan 31 and NWA.com was withdrawn.32.179.95.172 (talk) 18:37, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's not correct. I don't care if the certificate was merged, but the NWA ICAO code was used until the night of January 30/morning of January 31, 2010. Look up any flight tracking website for proofs. HkCaGu (talk) 20:26, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct, my bad, the call sign was Jan 30/31 (Should have checked a.net), but the AOC did go away on Dec 31 (aircraft painted as "nwa" even carried "Operated by Delta Air Lines" stickers).[1] 32.179.94.131 (talk) 22:52, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are quite a few steps in the merger--corporate, lounges, FF program, website, terminals and gates, crew, fleet, reservation, ATC call sign, certificate, etc. Judging from past standards used in WP:AVIATION, and given that we're talking about "cease operation" date, it's hard to argue against a date when both reservation and call signs were changed. "Insider Trading"

I removed the section concerning what the previous editor described as (unlawful) "insider trading." The citations in this section provided absolutely no support for the assertions made. The section suggested that several individuals had been sued for insider trading. There was no citation supporting this assertion. Instead, the editor posted records of SEC form 4s. Form 4 is routinely filed by corporate insiders. When these insiders trade it is often called "insider trades," or "insider transactions." These events have nothing to do with the unlawful activity suggested by the last editor. Please read detail on lawful insider trading at: http://www.sec.gov/answers/insider.htm.

The section also contained a reference to a "media spectacle," yet did not provide a single citation. JerryGraf (talk) 15:09, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Way too much detail !

Much of this article reads like a collection of articles about Northwest Airlines that had been clipped for years from Aviation Week and Space Technology Magazine. Way too much detail, and a whole heap of speculation about things and events, including ones that never became true. It boggles the mind for the General Reader who just wants and overview of Northwest Airlines.

Also, since the airline business has become very fluid since about 1988, it is not really necessary to go into gory detail about every modest gyration! 98.81.5.160 (talk) 00:23, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

-FWIW, I think the Delta/NWAirlines Merger should be separated into a separate wikipedia article. That will shorten the NW Airlines article quite a bit. Uncle Bean (talk) 16:25, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

september 2010 incident...

should we add flight 4951 as an incident? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.162.148.199 (talk) 09:36, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why would we? That was a Delta flight operated by Atlantic Southeast. No relevance to Northwest.

Why post this on the Northwest page??? NWA is now defunct and merged into DL. This post should really go to the Delta or Delta Connection talk page. Snoozlepet (talk) 20:15, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

London Gatwick Airport

Several times GroupE has deleted the reference to London Gatwick Airport on the caption of the Northwest 747 at that airport. Stating that "Gatwick" is north of London, which it is not. It is south of London and is regarded as a London Airport by IATA ie: LGW; its owners, the public and the London Air Traffic Control authorities.

I cannot see any reason for this deletion of "London" - apart from using incorrect knowledge.

OK, I'm confused Gatwick with Stansted. I think about yours reference, and I say u Yes, but if u write London Gatwick Airport, why u write that again after vertical bar? EGroup (talk) 19:45, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Avoid redirects....the name of the article is "Gatiwck Airport" without London. Snoozlepet (talk) 17:36, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Gatiwck" never heard of that! Doesn't alter the fact that IATA., airlines and LGW's owners term it a "London Airport"

David J Johnson (talk) 20:15, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

London Gatwick Airport was sold recently and the new owner (and the wikipedia article) now refer to it as Gatwick Airport. MilborneOne (talk) 20:23, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest that we link only "Gatwick Airport" and put London unlinked in front of it. Snoozlepet (talk) 20:08, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_Airlines_(1979-1986) is the airline that North West was involved with in 1986 the link on the page takes you to Republic Airlines post 1986 which is a company with no ties to North West 86.45.50.218 (talk) 12:44, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed! Thanks for pointing it out. Sbliman (talk) 16:23, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Prop planes

NWA had a sizable fleet of propeller-driven airliners in the postwar years, including DC6Bs, DC7Cs and a few Boeing Stratocruisers. Some photos of these historic aircraft should be included. Sca (talk) 22:29, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some Cleanup Needed

There are a couple of places that need some cleanup in order to make them less confusing. I don't have time right now to do it myself.

NWA Cargo
This rather small section operates in the past, present, and the future, intimating that NWA Cargo is still in business, and that it is not yet 2009. The fact that it jumps from one tense to another randomly makes this very confusing to read through quickly (it's not that exciting, but it is necessary material).

Labor Relations
The opening sentence, "A recurring issue in Northwest's history was its troubled labor relations." seems problematic to me. Thus far, not a hint of troubled labor relations has been given. New contracts previously mentioned appear to have gone through with minimal debate or controversy. Even when reading this section, trouble does not appear to begin until 1998 and end with 2007. After seventy-two years in business, to have nine years of spotty labor relations difficulties—all after the leveraged buyout, leading up to, and including the bankruptcy—would not seem like a recurring issue to most readers. And, like I said, until this point, not an issue at all. When I read the line, I went scrambling back to see where I had missed any labor problems.
