Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 76.110.201.132 (talk) at 16:12, 27 October 2013 (→‎Errors in In the news). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 20:16 on 7 June 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

  • Astronomers confirm z8_GND_5296: The article itself says the distance is 13.1 billion light-years, but this sections says the distance is 30 billion light-years. -erik 00:31, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

  • Looks like the article has been corrected. Thanks for the comment. Cheers. Thingg 03:25, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Distances in cosmology are complicated. 30 billion ly is the comoving distance, whilst 13 billion ly is the light travel distance. See distance measures in cosmology. Maybe there's a way of including that link in the blurb? Modest Genius talk 13:44, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The blurb about the US government shutdown and debt crisis Formula One race topping the ITN section is somehow misleading as it mentions only "President Barack Obama" "Sebastian Vettel" instead of the clearer "President of the United States Barack Obama""Driver from Germany Sebastian Vettel" or simply "American President Barack Obama" "German Driver Sebastian Vettel". Some may also find it to contain an American German/European bias since it would haven't been mentioned with the same wording if, for example, it were any other President of a a driver from another country. --76.110.201.132 (talk) 16:11, 27 October 2013 (UTC) [reply]
