The Samsung Gear 2[1] is a Tizen-based smartwatch produced by Samsung Electronics. The Gear 2 is the successor to the Galaxy Gear which was based on Android.[2] It was announced on 23 February 2014, a day before the Mobile World Congress. The Gear 2 will feature a mid-range counterpart model Gear 2 Neo.[3][4]
The Gear 2 features a IR blaster[5]
A third device, the Gear Fit, features a curved AMOLED display and is aimed towards fitness tracking.[6] The Gear 2 will have a 2MP camera stuck on its body for smart image capturing. It is specially designed for fitness and styling purpose and is going to accompany apps such as:
- Heart Rate sensor[7]
- Pedometer
- Exercise Standalone Modes: Running, Walking
- Companion Modes: Cycling, Hiking
