JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 スターダストクルセイダース, JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken Sutādasuto Kuruseidāsu) is a 2014 anime television series based on the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga series by Hirohiko Araki. It is the second season of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime by David Production, which aired its first season in 2012, and the second animated adaptation of the manga's third story arc, Stardust Crusaders, following the 1993/2000 original video animation series by A.P.P.P.. Set in the year 1987, the series follows Jotaro Kujo and his comrades, who have developed mysterious powers known as Stands, as they travel to Egypt in search of the evil and immortal Dio.
The second season was originally announced in October 2013 in the month's Ultra Jump issue and the fifth volume of JoJolion.[1][2] David Productions revealed that as with the different art styles they used for the first season, which covered the Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency arcs, they would be attempting a new art style with the Stardust Crusaders season.[3] Takehito Koyasu reprises his role as Dio from the previous season and Daisuke Ono reprises his role as Jotaro Kujo from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle video game, but all other characters were given new voice actors.[4]
The series is planned for a full year of broadcast and is currently divided into two parts.[5] The first part, consisting of the first 24 episodes, aired on Tokyo MX between April 4, 2014 and September 12, 2014, also airing on MBS, Animax, and other channels,[4] and is being simulcast outside of Asia on Crunchyroll's streaming services.[6] A preview of the English language dub of the first three episodes was streamed on Crunchyroll on July 5, 2014, tying in with its premiere at Anime Expo 2014.[7] The second part of the series called the "Egypt Saga" (エジプト編, Ejiputo-hen), covering the manga's Egypt arc, will begin airing in January 2015.[8]
The opening theme for this season is "Stand Proud" performed by Jin Hashimoto, whilst the ending theme is American band The Bangles' 1985 single "Walk Like an Egyptian".[a] The original score for the series is composed by Yugo Kanno. The first soundtrack album Departure was released on July 30, 2014, and a second soundtrack album Journey was included with the second volume of the Blu-ray releases, released on August 27, 2014.[9]
