Fair use rationale for Image:Stevie Wonder-Hotter Than July (album cover).jpg

Image:Stevie Wonder-Hotter Than July (album cover).jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Proposal to remove pop-funk

The RollingStone source doesn't explictly call Hotter than July a pop-funk album; it just states this "After the quasi-symphonic puffery of Journey through the Secret Life of Plants, Wonder's music has tightened and toughened into a roiling pop-funk that hits several fiery grooves. Many of the tunes have antecedents in the singer's earlier work..."

Whereas the four singles that were released: "Master Blaster (Jammin')" was reggae, dub "I Ain't Gonna Stand for It" was R&B, soul "Lately" was R&B, soul "Happy Birthday" was R&B

The most commonly used genre was R&B followed by soul and they should be there instead of a source that just says his music after Journey through the Secret Life of Plants, Wonder's music has tightened and toughened into a roiling pop-funk that hits several fiery grooves but that doesn't mean the album is 100% explicitly a pop-funk album and therefore it should be removed. The critic is clearly referring to this album. There's no music by Wonder between Journey and Hotter than July, so what else is the critic referring to when he says after Journey, "Wonder's music has tightened and toughened into a roiling pop-funk..."? Dan56 (talk) 18:50, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose pop-funk?! Really come off it, RollingStone's review makes me LOL; it calls it pop-funk grooves which OK to each's own but however reading through a lot of Dan56's edit wars edits on other pages he usually says that the source should explicitly say it's a such and such for the sake of the arguement with this page we're arguing over pop-funk Dan56 would tell everyone else they are wrong 'cause the source doesn't explicitly call the album pop-funk and he'd usually say that pop-funk grooves are elements/influences what not; I can't see how RollingStone's never picked up on reggae or soul. It was nigh on labeling them as elements and not calling the album 100% a pop-funk album. 93.186.23.82 (talk) 11:14, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • As per Dan56's comments on the Unapologetic's talk page back in July; in a nutshell when people suggested to call the album's genre R&B-pop he refused it by saying because of the hypen between R&B-pop it shouldn't be used as it makes it a compound noun meaning that it is a fusion/crossover of the genres' so if Dan56 didn't allow Unapologetic to go as R&B-pop why should Hotter than July go as pop-funk, there even is a hypen between Pop-funk so I oppse it 51 penland road (talk) 13:02, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment @Dan56, how about we do it Pop-funk with source then R&B, soul as they are that is the most frequent genres used in the singles as I pointed out earlier? Rihanna-RiRi-fan (talk) 19:53, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

According to whom is it the most frequent for the singles, and what do four individual singles have to do with the album? Dan56 (talk) 18:33, 16 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A LOT of articles go by that way Rihanna-RiRi-fan (talk) 15:43, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How's that relevant? Dan56 (talk) 06:52, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I support the inclusion of the genre "pop-funk" because it is well-referenced and because other references support the basic idea of some funk in the album. For instance, in his book Funk, author Dave Thompson talks about how Wonder purposely sought out the Gap Band funksters Ronnie and Charles Wilson to be on his album.[1] In Robert H. Cataliotti's book The Songs Became the Stories, he says that Hotter Than July has "heavy funk and reggae grooves".[2] Billboard magazine calls "Did I Hear You Say You Love Me", the fourth single from the album, "a funky uptempo number."[3] Author James E. Perone also calls the song "a funky dance song".[4] A few pages later Perone describes Wonder in the Hotter Than July time frame as "turning increasingly to poppish (as opposed to jazz-oriented) ballads on one hand and potent funk on the other." So the Rolling Stone review is not alone in calling out the funk aspects of this album, the funk aspects of Stevie Wonder in '79–'80.
I noticed that the 'support' and 'oppose' votes are opposite of the stated proposal which is to remove the genre. I oppose the removal. Binksternet (talk) 19:28, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on IPs' votes One or both of the IPs--5.81.198.104, 93.186.31.97--as well as 51 penland road, are likely Rihanna-RiRi-fan and/or Ice'dup-Blingking, because of similar edit histories and genre warring; recently created account 51 penland road referred to a content dispute months ago only Rihanna-RiRi-fan here would have been familiar with, or LuvmeorHateme and Harmelodix, both blocked socks involved at that dispute. Dan56 (talk) 18:20, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dan56 who have you pissed off? Why's Rationalobserver got it in for ya; they even know how many time you've been blocked and have posted that ANI about you? Didn't Harmelodix have it in for you too? Rihanna-RiRi-fan (talk) 16:37, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 03 December 2014

Hotter than July (album)Hotter than July – The album is the Primary Topic for the name. In the last 90 days the album article was read 14,259 times and the festival 547 times. When the album was moved and a dab page was created, no attempt was made to clean up the many incoming links. The album needs to be moved back to the base name, with its long-standing hatnote pointing to the festival. PamD 13:16, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There's no point in having a disambiguation page when there exists only "Hotter than July" (the album article) and "Hotter than July (festival)". It's a case of WP:TWODABS where a disambiguation page would be deleted. Anyone typing or following a link to "Hotter than July" will get straight to the album and be one click away, via hatnote, from the festival. A dab page would only complicate matters.
