The Grand Theft Auto 2 soundtrack is provided by each area featuring five radio stations from a pool of eleven, in which one of them would be played as the player drives most vehicles in the game. Changing radio stations for preference was also possible in the Windows PC version: Next was the "F1" function key while previous was the "F2" function key and in PlayStation Version, hold Up button." "Head Radio" was present in the original GTA, Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. Each gang also has its own radio station that transmits within a limited area.

Radio stations

Head Radio

The city's largest commercial radio station. It can be received in all areas of the game. It is also the longest sound file of all the radio stations: 24 minutes as opposed to the regular 12 minutes. The alternating DJs' names are Phanny Joe Styles and Johnny Riccaro. Head Radio plays electronic music and rock. The frequency of this station ranges from 69 to 89 FM, according to a station ID.

The song "Taxi Drivers" by Bula Matari was censored in the PlayStation version of the game. Lyrics containing profanities were interrupted by the sounds of horns.

Rockstar Radio

A commercial radio station in the Downtown Area. The DJ is Sammy Starock. According to him, people regularly send letter bombs to the station. The station plays pop and rock and also features on-air phone calls from "listeners".

KREZ

The Residential Area's commercial station which plays hip hop and rap. The DJ is Richie T.

Lo-Fi FM

A commercial station in the Industrial Area that plays oldies and pop. The DJ is the Welsh DJ Dai (Dai is a Welsh abbreviation for the name 'David'), who doesn't seem to have any ties to the gangs in the area. Dai claims to be a "spiritual dee-jay". Also, he apparently suffered a 'compound neck fracture' in a car-jacking and is planning his own funeral on-air, sending out invitations and talking about buying a casket.

Futuro FM

The Zaibatsu gang's station. It can be received in all three areas. The DJ, Dean Frantz, plays dance, jazz-oriented pop and Funk. Dean Frantz is a bitter, unlucky man who some fans have compared to later-game DJ Lazlow.

Funami FM

The Yakuza gang's station in the downtown area. The music is drum and bass-type acid. The station is hosted by a frantically screaming Japanese woman (in a varied high-pitch voice) calling herself Teriyaki-chan and a pre-recorded voice of an announcer advertising the station.

Lithium FM

The Loonies' station. Features a DJ who's considered totally insane, Spaz Funbags, as well as some oldies and dance-music in the Downtown area.

The Redneck gang station in the residential area. The DJ, Marshall Nash, has a thick Southern accent. The music of choice appears to be punk rock.

Osmosis Radio

The SRS's station, transmitting in the Residential Area. The DJ "Mama Doc", who continually refers to a small, unspecified hometown, plays modern dance music.

Heavenly Radio

Heavenly Radio is the Hare Krishna's favorite radio station, transmitting in the Industrial District. The music is a mix of Jesus-pop and soft music. Listeners are continuously urged by the station's DJ, Venus Ordelia, to convert.

KGBH

Radio station of the Russian mafia with DJ Bomba Tomba. KGBH frequently encounters both technical and personal problems that interfere with their broadcasts, mainly due to the station broadcasting via a tape machine. The station primarily plays classic rock.

This song is played continuously in the selection menus. It is not played in any radio station in-game.

This song is played during the credits. It is heard once during a promo but it is not played completely in any of the radio stations.
