"It's So Cool" is a dance-oriented song, with influences of electropop and house styles. The song received generally favorable reviews from music critics, praising the composition and the lyrical content. The song performed well on music charts worldwide despite never being released as a single. The song charted in European countries including Finland, Italy and Sweden.

Background and release

Originally titled "Cool Song", the song was recorded in 2002 for her ninth studio album American Life and written by Madonna, Mirwais Ahmadzaï and Monte Pittman.[1] The 2009 version retained the original vocals with additional production by Paul Oakenfold. The original recording from 2002 leaked in full onto the internet on August 31, 2010.[2] It features a stripped-down, acoustic performance by Madonna and includes a children's choir during the final chorus. Another recording without the choir leaked on September 1, 2010 and is most likely an earlier version of the 2002 recording. Another version featuring Madonna's daughter Lourdes was also leaked.[2]

In 2009, the song was announced to be featured on her third greatest hits compilation Celebration (2009). The song's production was assisted by Paul Oakenfold, who had remixed other previous songs including "What It Feels Like for a Girl" and "American Life". The song managed to be featured as a bonus track on the compilation, which was released on September 18, 2009. In the United States, the song is only available on the iTunes version of the album. Reception

"It's So Cool" received generally favourable reviews from music critics. Bradley Stern from MuuMuse gave it a favorable review, stating "It is good [...] n the ever-so-slightly Confessions On A Dance Floor, well-sung verses, crafty lyrics, possibly-better-than-the-lead-single, “Let’s do this one for the gays!” kind of way."[4]

Despite the song never being release as a single, "Its So Cool" managed to enter the top forty in some European markets. The song debuted at number eight on the Finnish Singles Chart, managing to enter the top ten in that country.[5] The song debuted at number twenty on the Italian Singles Chart for a sole week, being one of her few releases to miss the top 10.[6] The song debuted at number thirty on the Swedish Singles Chart for a sole week.[7]
