Airport T1 (Catalan: Aeroport T1) is a Barcelona Metro station that serves terminal T1 of Barcelona–El Prat Airport, in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat, to the south-west of Barcelona. It is the southern terminus of the airport branch of Barcelona Metro line 9 (L9) and is operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB). The station is located underneath the airport terminal and consists of two levels. The trains run on the lower level, where there is a 16-metre-wide (52 ft) island platform featuring screen doors. Adjacent to the station is a depot with a capacity of 12 trains.[1]

A tunneling machine began excavating the tunnel of Barcelona Metro line 9 from Template:Metrod to Airport T1 stations in March 2008, reaching the latter in April 2009. The construction works of the station's main structure were included as part of the airport terminal T1 project, which opened in June 2009. At that moment, the airport branch of Barcelona Metro line 9 was expected to open for passenger service in 2012.[2] In March 2012, the Government of Catalonia announced the opening date of the line's 20-kilometre-long (12 mi) section between the airport terminals and Zona Universitària station in western Barcelona was to be delayed until 2014, after passing a modification on the funding of several sections of the L9 in order to prioritize the arrival of the metro line at the airport.[3] In June 2014, the government announced that the Airport T1–Zona Universitària section, excepting Template:Metrod, Template:Metrod and Template:Metrod stations, would open in the first six months of 2016.[4] The L9 section eventually opened for passenger service on 12 February 2016.[5]

Designated L9 Sud ("L9 South"), this section operates driverless with a service frequency of 7 minutes in each direction, though additional partial services may be added if necessary, reducing the frequency to 4 minutes.[5] The passengers using the metro stations located at the airport terminals are required to purchase a special ticket known as Airport ticket, so that the basic single tickets issued by TMB are not valid at this station.[6] The special ticket costs €4.5 and gives access to the rest of the TMB-operated Barcelona Metro system. In contrast, all multiple-time tickets and unlimited passes issued by the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM)—a public agency in charge of coordinating public transport operators in the Barcelona area—are valid at this station, with the exception of the T-10 ten-trip ticket.[7]

Commuter rail services to central Barcelona will also serve the station once the new airport rail link is built. Although an airport rail link has existed since 1975, it only reaches the 1.8-kilometre-away (1.1 mi) airport terminal T2.[8] The construction works for the new link began in July 2015, with a completion date around 2018.[9] There is also a project to extend Barcelona Metro line 2 (L2) southwards using the route of the L9 between Template:Metrod and Airport T1 stations.[10]
