Hi John, thank you for the notice on my Talk page regarding the speedy deletion request of Hypernet. I replied on my Talk page a couple of days ago and no reaction. Here's my response for your convenience.

Hi JohnCD, I should have explained in more details. The author of this article is User:Guylepage3 and even though the article is about the "Hypernet", it is also about "Blockstack" because one requires the other. The article states "The first implementation that provides DNS and Public key infrastructure for the hypernet i.e., for "traditional Internet" plus other networks like blockchain-powered content, is called Blockstack and was created by a community of open source software developers and engineers." If you check out the Github page for Blockstack you'll find a user Guy Lepage with an id of "guylepage3" is a developer of Blockstack. I thought under those circumstances, a nomination under WP:CSD#A11 was appropriate. What dya think? -- HighKing++ 16:50, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I know this wasn't obvious and I should have pointed it out. It's not possible to separate hypernet from blockstack and since guylepage3 is a developer of blockstack... Anyway, I'd appreciate if you could take another look. Thank you. -- HighKing++ 15:01, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@HighKing: sorry I missed your reply - my watchlist is now so large as to be almost useless, but I usually check my own contributions to see whether any messages are no longer "current". Yes, if something like a hoax or an A11 is not immediately obvious, it's worth leaving a note on the talk page which the reviewing admin will usually check. In this case, I get your point, and if I had known I would have actioned the speedy, but having declined it I think I will instead (later today) PROD it with an explanation to the author about OR and COI. Thanks, anyway! JohnCD (talk) 13:48, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@HighKing: FYI: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hypernet (2nd nomination). I found this interesting when I looked into it, and thought a PROD would probably be removed. JohnCD (talk) 20:28, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks JohnCD. And a nicely put reasoning too. Much better than I managed. -- HighKing++ 12:54, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel Hasidim page

Hello

Why did you deleted Daniel Hasidim page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Hasidim)?

What is the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talkcontribs) 20:14, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Daniel12121: I deleted it as a result of the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Daniel Hasidim (2nd nomination). Wikipedia is quite selective about subjects for articles, and for academics the "notability" standard is explained at WP:Notability (academics). That is what is referred to in the discussion as WP:PROF or NPROF. The consensus of those contributing to the discussion was that Prof Hasidim did not meet that (quite demanding) standard. JohnCD (talk) 22:18, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

JohnCD Thank you for your reply. In regard to that, I would like to ask you a question - In Daniel Hasidim CV their is onther detaile which I forgot to mention. During the last two years of his academic term in china, he was the head of the MBA program in peking university. Is that considere to be unique enough for wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talkcontribs) 07:38, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No. You will see from WP:NACADEMIC that just being head of a program or department is not in itself considered enough. JohnCD (talk) 13:35, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? Isn't the criteria ssy that a person is notable if he is:

5. The person holds or has held a named chair appointment or distinguished professor appointment at a major institution of higher education and research (or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon). 6. The person has held a highest-level elected or appointed academic post at a major academic institution or major academic society. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talkcontribs) 23:32, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Head of the MBA program" is not either of those - see this link. "Named chair" means something like the Chichele Professorships or the Slade Professor of Fine Art. "Distinguished Professor" is a particular title, e.g. Robert A. Bjork is Distinguished Professor of Psychology at UCLA, Barbara Ramsay Shaw is Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Duke University. "Highest-level elected or appointed academic post" means something like Vice-chancellor or President - academic head of the whole institution. JohnCD (talk) 10:01, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

He is co-founder and vice-persident of Los Angeles university. The university will receive full academic accreditation from the US department of education in July 2017. When the institution will receive full accreditation, will that be enought to give him a wikipedia article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talkcontribs) 11:16, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. Certainly not until it is accredited by a recognised accreditation agency. Even then, I see from their website that "Los Angeles University is an online life experience university rather then a regular one." That would not count as a "major academic institution", and vice-president is not "the highest-level elected or appointed academic post". JohnCD (talk) 15:03, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If that is the case, why deos Shai Reshef, the founder of an online institution ("Universuty of the People") got a wikipedia article under his name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talkcontribs) 18:21, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not familiar with that, but from a quick look I see several differences: (a) Shai Reshef is actually the President, (b) UoP is a genuinely new educational model which he pioneered, whereas there are many "life-experience" degree mills (that term is used on LAU's own Facebook page), (c) UoP's degrees involve actual examinations, and it is accredited in a way recognised by the DoE. JohnCD (talk) 20:57, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Los Angeles university also include actual examinations and submission of academic papers. In addition they receive accredition in every cuontry they working on, and they have cooperation Agreements with the universities dating beck 200 years old from all over europe. When it will be also accredited in a way recognised by the DoE, why the founder of an american accredited university (with thousands of students from the US worldwide), should'nt he deserve to receive a wikipedia article? Many people would like to know who he is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talkcontribs) 08:25, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Look, you are wasting your time here and clutching at straws. The LAU website says nothing about him being "the founder", it shows him as one of several "deans". But that doesn't matter, because I see no indication that LAU is any different from a hundred other diploma mills, so association with it does nothing for academic notability. Forget it, at least until LAU actually appears as accredited on the DoE's list. JohnCD (talk) 11:31, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I know I am bothering you about it, but I have a simple question - when LAU will get full accreditation and on the site Daniel Hasidim will be mentioned as the founder, would he be entitled for an article in his name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talkcontribs) 13:48, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, it would not be guaranteed, because I do not think LAU would be considered a "major academic institution" for the purposes of WP:NACADEMIC #6. JohnCD (talk) 22:02, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review for Blue Embrace

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Blue Embrace. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Ushabti16 (talk) 00:20, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, there is several mentions at this wiki templates below about this band and this article in reliable sources. Thank you WP:ALBUM/SOURCE WP:MUSIC/SOURCE WP:MUSIC/SOURCES

@Ushabti16: it would have been courteous to ask me and wait for a reply before going to WP:Deletion review; but I would have declined to undelete it anyway, because at WP:Articles for deletion/Blue Embrace the consensus of experienced users familiar with Wikipedia's standards was clear. Just being mentioned in sources in those lists is not enough: as the introductory paragraphs say, the comment "must be from a source that is independent of the artist, record company, etc." Interviews do not count for much, because they are still the band talking about itself; what counts is substantial comment about it from people independent of it. Check out WP:MUSICBIO and WP:Notability (summary). JohnCD (talk) 12:52, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Brazilian copperfish hoax - page history?

I've found a possible addition to the List of hoaxes on Wikipedia page. The Brazilian copperfish was originally deleted as a hoax on 18 December 2008 (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brazilian copperfish) and appears to have spread to a few minor travel blogs. However, I don't have access to the page history to determine when the Brazilian copperfish article was first created and how long it lasted. Since you're an administrator with an interest in hoax-hunting, do you have access to the creation date of the Brazilian copperfish page? Calamondin12 (talk) 02:10, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Calamondin12: It was created on 3 March 2007‎, but it was actually restored after deletion and moved to User:SteveBaker/Brazilian copperfish "to be used for hoax detection". Seven years on, it's still there, with its history. Pinging SteveBaker, who I see is still active, for comment, but I see no reason why you shouldn't move it to the list of hoaxes. JohnCD (talk) 11:41, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Archives/Science/2008_December_18#Brazilian_copperfish is the conversation on WP:RD/S where this hoax was uncovered. Someone posted a question about it - I searched everywhere for a reference to this fish, the genera it supposedly belonged to, the guy who supposedly discovered it. Zip, nada, zero. At the time, I asked an admin to keep the edit history so we could try to track down the miscreant who created it. This kind of highly convincing hoax article is very hard to track down and can be very damaging - so it's important to nail the evildoer in addition to nuking the article. Anyway, feel free to delete/nuke/move the sub-page. SteveBaker (talk) 14:11, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ashish Seth

Dear John kindly guide,as the article created by me Ashish Seth, had been deleted by you.How can the article be improved,to be restored and worked om. the score number of article was 307,does score indicate any reason the article can be restored. Please guide,if the article becomes notable in future, can it be restored, thanks Peanutcase (talk) 07:50, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have replied on your talk page. JohnCD (talk) 12:22, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear John,Thank you,but as you say that article Ashish Seth, will be looked upon with submission, even after reliable notability issues are provided, how can old issues be resolved Peanutcase (talk) 08:00, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Peanutcase: if a new article has good references that show significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources, that will be fine; when I said that it would be looked upon with suspicion because of previous sockpuppetry, I meant only that the references would be examined with particular care. Creation of company page about Deskera

Hi JohnCD,

Yes indeed, my past edits are about Deskera - and you can see from history that they've been about reversing an edit - so the mention was already there.

About the company page, I do notice that the existing page was deleted - and I suspect that it is a mistake, or reasons that are not really valid. Under the conflict of interest guidelines only, I'd like to request a creation of the company page Deskera - based on the information from http://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=321196095 (which is notable, independent and verifiable - and also detailed enough)

Kindly help with how to go about that, and be within the guidelines. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sansthapna (talkcontribs) 09:48, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have replied on your talk page. JohnCD (talk) 10:28, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I see the links and will study them and request the restoration of the page with relevant sources. Had no way to know about it earlier.

Clarification : I did not create the Deskera page - I only edited the mentions of the Deskera page in other places.

I'm Not very familiar with wikipedia; will search and add relevant disclosure information. It is not requested of me anytime, and I do not know what are necessary things there - so again thanks for the links and the information.

Is this equal to salted Jade Marlin? --Marvellous Spider-Man (talk) 15:03, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Marvellous Spider-Man: yes, it's evidently the same man, but it's a much better article. The previous version was salted after four creations within a few days last July/August, all unsourced and obviously autobio. I think this one should be treated on its merits - I doubt it would survive AfD, but I don't think it's speediable. If it looks like surviving, I'd be willing to move it to the old title. @IdreamofJeanie: that wasn't my user page, as the name might suggest. I guess Twinkle thought it was because I had posted the first message on it. I'm glad it notified me, though, because he had posted his autobio piece on four other pages and I was able to roll them all back. JohnCD (talk) 15:00, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

AFC scripty oopsy

Looks like the AFC helper script thought you were the author of Draft:Infodynamics, I guess from the AFD page move. Not sure who should get this notice now? Cheers. -- 1Wiki8........................... (talk) 09:22, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@1Wiki8Q5G7FviTHBac3dx8HhdNYwDVstR: ha! I got another misdirected notice from Twinkle, see just above. This one is complicated: I closed an AfD on the article as delete, and later at the author's request restored it to draft for him to work on, explaining at User talk:Raysonik#Infodynamics what would be needed for it to be acceptable. He evidently (and I think correctly) decided that there weren't the sources around to show that this was more than a trendy neologism being promoted by a small group, because he did no more, and in fact has not edited since. Then yesterday an IP made a small correction to a header and also added the "submit" template.
On the off-chance that the IP is Raysonik editing logged out, I have transferred the notices from my user page to his, and corrected the AFC template on the article to show him as the author. The IP is dynamic, but in case the same user is still on it, I have also explained at User talk:86.187.163.185 what I have done. Cheers, JohnCD (talk) 10:07, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John RE: Undeletion of "Keith St John"

Hello John,

Thank you so much for your response. The plain truth of the matter of why I did not address this matter sooner is that my mother had been in an extremely dramatic fight for her life (beginning this past September) until around 1 month ago and she needed my attention so much so that some things in my life were forced to go on "hold." I apologize profusely for my absence and I assure you at this point that it is a very important goal for me to complete a properly written and well constructed article that will be accepted.

I have read the discussions at the four links you included in your reply. In addition I have contacted Robert McClenon at TEAHOUSE regarding getting myself some proper guidance on addressing the necessary issues.

Again, Thank You so much for your help.

Keith St John (talk) 19:55, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done - restored to a new location at Draft:Keith St John. 20:05, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi John RE: Undeletion of "Keith St John"

Hello John,

Thank you. I will really get working on the page.

I have a major concern though. I had created a much more completed page with a lot of sections and several paragraphs that were quite extensive and involved with headings, formatting, etc. The ongoing draft page that i had was diligently created over some time before the short info box that is there now was made!

I am very much hoping that it is all still in existence and can retrieved.

Please let me know if perhaps there is a way to find this.

Thank You again John
