Farooqabad (Urdu: فارُوق آباد), earlier known as Choorkana "(چوڑ کانا)" is an important city in Sheikhupura District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is situated along the twin canals (Qadirabad Balloki Link Canal and Upper Gogera Branch Canal) about 55 km west of Lahore on Sargodha Road along Lahore-Islamabad M-2 Motorway and on Lahore-Faisalbad-Karachi Main Railway Line.
History
Farooqabad was once called as Chuharkana but later changed to Farooqabad to honour second pious Caliph Umar ibn Al-Khattāb in 1983. Caliph Umar ibn Al-Khattāb was titled Farooq, meaning "leader, jurist and statesman".
Sheikhupura District, where Farooqabad is located, has been an agricultural region having dense forests ever since Indus Valley Civilization. The Vedic period is characterized by Indo-Aryan culture that invaded from Central Asia and settled in Punjab region. The Kambojas, Daradas, Kaikayas, Madras, Pauravas, Yaudheyas, Malavas and Kurus invaded, settled and ruled this ancient Punjab region. After overrunning the Achaemenid Empire in 331 BCE, Alexander marched into present-day Punjab region with an army of 50,000. Sheikhupura was ruled by Maurya Empire, Indo-Greek kingdom, Kushan Empire, Gupta Empire, White Huns, Kushano-Hephthalites and Shahi kingdoms.
In 1005 AD, Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi conquered the Punjab region including this area. The Delhi Sultanate and later Mughal Empire ruled the region. The Punjab region became predominantly Muslim due to the influence of missionary Sufi saints whose dargahs dot the landscape of Punjab region.
After the decline of the Mughal Empire, the Sikh Empire under Maharajah Ranjit Singh created a secular kingdom in Punjab. The first police station was set up during British rule in 1924 and is called Sadar Thana Farooqabad. The Pakistan Adventist Seminary and College (PASC) developed from a small Seventh-day Adventist boys' school was founded in 1920 by British. In 1937 it became a co-educational institution with the integration of the seventh-day Adventist girls' school. Steady growth followed as students came in from all parts of the Punjab and North West India. The predominantly Muslim population supported Muslim League and Pakistan Movement. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, the minority Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India while the Muslim refugees from India settled in the Farooqabad.

Imran Foundation Pakistan
Imran Foundation has been established in the memory of Imran Saleem who was youngest son of the great worker of Pakistan Movement Mr. Sheikh Fazal Ellahi. This foundation is working day and night to address health related issues of the area. It is working in very close collaboration with Abdul Haye Memorial Hospital Farooqabd. Beside providing best possible health faciliities in the rural areas, it is also imparting para-medical training to the selected youth of the area, particularly the women, through its institution "Imran Foundation Institute of Paramedics". It is playing major role in fight against Dengue and Polio.
Green Foundation Farooqabad
Mohsin Bukhari started Green Foundation in 2002. Green Foundation Farooqabad has been working in the city to make it clean and green. The foundation is committed to turning the city into a model in terms of plantation. The foundation has already started plantation at some points in the city. It is a non-profit and non-government foundation under the control of Mohsin Bukhari . It is the only one private plantation foundation of District Sheikhupura and is considered very helpful for the public.

Haji Muhammad Yaqoob Free Dispensary
A huge population of Farooqabad is poor and cannot afford quality medical treatment from hospitals. Haji Malik Muhammad Yaqoob a well respected local philanthropist of city Farooqabad started this Free Dispensary in 2006 to provide these poor people with quality medical services and medicine free of cost.
Haji Muhammad Yaqoob Free Ambulance Service
Ambulance was the great need of the whole town of Farooqabad and there was not any arrangement for patients in emergency to reach to better health facilities in Sheikhupura District in time. Haji Malik Muhammad Yaqoob a well respected local philanthropist started this free ambulance service in 2006 along with operational arrangements which provides 24-hour ambulance service for patients in emergency.
Tanzeem-ul-Khadmeen Farooqabad
This is social organization started by Hafiz Farooq-e-azam jamati in 2012. The main goals of this organization to do works for the welfare of the city especially of region PC gate mohallah momina-abad. Organization provided many deserving citizens with catering services free of cost at there sorrows. They are also serving household meal packages to the deserving needy ones on religious festivals like Eid and Eid-e-millaad.
'Daira Choudhary Abdul Haleem
This is the most important place of Farooq Abad because a very famous place is in this Town that known as Daira Choudhary Abdul Haleem
He was the chairman of Farooq Abad and all people Like his justice and loyalty 1n 1995 banazeer bhutto Visited Farooq Abad and she make base of Sui Gas in Farooq abad. Mr Abdul haleem has 6 sons their name are, Mr Irshad, Chodhary Safdar Ali Advocate, Chodhary Islam, Rana Ashraf Captain, Rana Musharaf Ali sajid And Ghulam Dastgir, Mr Safdar is a great politician and trying to go on his father's way but Mr Rana Islam start his political career and he was the pas nayb nazim of UC 87 in farooq abad. SANGAT
SANGAT is a non-profit and non-governmental organization established in 1994. The organization has been involved in various developmental projects in Farooqabad, including an 18-month project with the financial support of CDSP/PIF in three selected union councils. The main objectives of the program were to establish model union councils and work towards sustainable communities.[1]
Demographics and society
Farooqabad's population is mainly Muslim with Sunni majority and Shia minority. Farooqbad also has a small Christian community. Punjabi is the native language of city and Urdu is widely spoken as second language.

Economy
Farooqabad has always been a hub of business activities due to its location with road network including M-2 Motorway connecting it to all major cities, towns and villages of the area. Being a "Mandi" or the Market of the area since ages, it is major trade centre of the area where all kind of business activities take place. Agriculture is one of the main sources of employment, the town has been a popular grain market as the town is located in a highly fertile area.
The economic growth in Farooqabad has been tremendous. City is enjoying fruits of economic growth offering great opportunities for all type of businesses.
