Further improvements

Hello Theroadislong... I'd like to work with you to improve SOCO International's Wiki page, get the facts out there and legitimize the page/remove the tags. I will not directly edit the page again since I am a COI editor and do have a 'close connection' with the subject. Nevertheless, I would like to help present the facts about SOCO's activities while adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines. In order to remove the promotional content I suggest removing the following three sentences, but please let me know what needs to happen to further improve the page and I would be happy to assist: -- "In 2016 it was reported that SOCO had indicated that with low cost production, no debt and its disciplined approach to capital allocation, the company was in a good position to weather a prolonged industry downturn." --"Looking ahead, the company said it plans to produce 10,000 to 11,500 barrels of oil equivalent a day in 2016 This doesn't included potentially higher output scenarios from its TGT field in Vietnam." --"The start of production was achieved more than a month ahead of schedule, SOCO said, and the H5 wellhead platform development was completed with zero lost time accidents." I look forward to hearing from you, SOCOrep — Preceding unsigned comment added by SOCOrep (talkcontribs) SOCOrep (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Hello! There is a DR/N request you may have interest in.

This message is being sent to let you know of a discussion at the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You are not required to participate, but you are both invited and encouraged to help this dispute come to a resolution. Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you!

Dear Sir,

I belong to the bhil community mentioned here, Tadvi Bhil and Nirdhi Bhil, our tribal community is known for shyness to contact streamline peoples, thats why yet to be studied deeply and we dont have much published work on our community, I would like to ve guided by you further on this regard, afterall this is going to be a critical issue for my tribal community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tantyamama ka Bhil (talkcontribs) 16:54, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, which summarises what independent sources have published about subjects and has essentially no interest in what anybody or any organisation says or wants to say about themselves on Wikipedia, we need reliable sources independent of the subject. MicroStation Page

Hi, I made some minor edits to some seriosuly outdated information on this page before I had understood the COI requirements and related reveison request procedures. I belive these are neutral and useful changes that bring information about our file format up to date and are thus useful to the Wikipedia community. Please advise if these changes can be acceopted. If not please revert the page to the previous state. Regards MT Bentley (talk) 15:32, 3 February 2017 (UTC) BTW, I fully agree with your removal of the Extensions section, it was out of date and misleading, Thank you. Edward Scaife

Hi, Thank you for your message re. my recently created article "Edward Scaife", which I had attempted unsuccessfully to import and translate from French Wikipedia, using https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Content_translation#Try_the_tool. I've just spent an hour or so trying to translate it myself using google, but unfortunately, the page has been deleted by an administrator while I was in mid translation. I am annoyed, to say the least, as your message stated I had 2 weeks to translate it (I would have had it done in another 30 min. or so), and this is a complete waste of my time. Can you please give me some idea of why an administrator would take such a destructive action, without communicating in any way? Or is it just another example of wikipedia bullying? If so, where can I go to raise a complaint?

Beryl reid fan (talk) 15:20, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You would have to discuss that with the admin concerned @Jac16888: but I'd suggest translating it first before uploading or use the WP:AFC process where it will not be deleted. Theroadislong (talk) 15:24, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. It seems to be resolved now Beryl reid fan (talk) 18:35, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest

Thank you for your comment regarding COI. As a resident with an interest in my locality, I am satisfied that I do not have a conflict of interest. Despite reading the appropriate Wiki pages, I am now confused following your comment. Can you tell me what has led you to believe that I might have a COI? New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Theroadislong,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 803 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

External link

What is wrong with the external link on Hearing loss: It is a section of my contribution on the Sociology of Disability, which I think is very usefull for students and academics on this field, and which adds something new to this page. As far as I know this kind of information is very suitable and useful for social scientists (not only in the Netherlands and the UK, but world wide).

Greeting from Amsterdam, Albert Benchop — Preceding unsigned comment added by Albertbenschop (talkcontribs) 14:09, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker)@Albertbenschop: Wikipeda is a general encyclopedia; it is not just written for social scientists. Adding a very narrowly focussed link to a very broad article is strongly discouraged by the external links guideline. Adding a link to your own site to 53 other Wikimedia wikis really isn't on, either. You'd best contribute to the external links noticeboard discussion about your link additions, which I noted on your talk page. Graham87 14:39, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

04:24:26, 6 February 2017 review of submission by WikiEMG

Good evening Theroadislong,

We're trying to post our initial company profile on Wikipedia, but this is our 2nd attempt that has not passed the benchmark. Our initial attempt was admittedly a bit too "sales" oriented, but the 2nd attempt was largely grounded in sources/references from reputable sites. USAToday, HuffingtonPost, HomeAlarmReport... We also noticed that the old version was being referenced for deletion most recently, in addition to the newest draft here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:LivSecure_Home_Security

We just don't know what other sources are needed. If you could help to explain what else we need to verify, we would be happy to comply. Like I said, this 2nd attempt removed the product listings and the self-promotion, the listing itself seemed to be in line with and on par with other comparable products that have accepted Wikipedia listings.

Thanks! WikiEMG

Wikipedia doesn't host company profiles and you have a conflict of interest. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that summarizes what independent, reliable sources say about a topic. You need to establish notability by adding references that show there is widespread in-depth coverage of the organisation in reliable sources. Your press releases and blog mentions are not sufficient. Theroadislong (talk) 09:23, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scarborough Art Gallery

Thanks for your feedback on my recently submitted draft. I am in the process of adding further citations, but would be grateful for your advice on what specifically needs to be addressed. The format (apart from including a lengthier history of the building) is very similar to that used by another local gallery, the Ferens in Hull: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferens_Art_GallerySMTrustHeather (talk) 13:57, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The content in the Ferens Art Gallery article is all cited to reliable, secondary and independent sources, whereas your article is not. Wikipedia has no interest in what you or I know about a subject ONLY what the reliable sources say. Theroadislong (talk) 14:02, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Large watchlists

I saw you mention that you've thousands of articles on your watchlist. I was wondering if we could compare notes on why it's useful to have such large watchlists and how to manage them. --Ronz (talk) 16:40, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ha... I'm not sure it is that useful! I sometimes wish I could have a secondary watchlist with the important articles only. 17:26, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
I find it useful for many reasons, mostly dealing with long-term problems, but I do try to trim mine from time to time when articles become relatively stable and well-maintained.
There is a way to create lists similar to watchlists that are publicly viewable: WP:PWL. I haven't used it yet, but have been thinking of doing so for the articles I remove from my watchlist, so I can still track them while not having them clog my watchlist. --Ronz (talk) 18:39, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Links on Adam Meggido page

Unicirc article COI

I have no conflict of interest. I am an independent scientist. Here is the statement on the following article: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0157065

The authors received no specific funding for this work, did not/do not serve as employees or consultants, and have no financial interest in this product or any marketed products or products in development. The authors have no competing interests, defined as anything that interferes with, or could reasonably be perceived as interfering with, the full and objective presentation, peer review, editorial decision-making, or publication of research or non-research articles. No competing interests, financial or non-financial, professional, or personal, exist. No competing interests exist in relationship to an organization or another person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petersmillard (talkcontribs) 20:36, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

5 of the articles references cite your name which is why I considered you had a conflict of interest in citing your own work? Theroadislong (talk) 20:53, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think a very fair assessment on your part. This is a specialized area and there are few researchers. Do you accept my explanation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petersmillard (talkcontribs) 21:38, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes... users are discouraged from citing their own work, better to make suggested edits on the article talk page for others to consider. Theroadislong (talk) 21:44, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion: Amplus Solar

I am reasearching on the topic of Solar energy and solar panel in India. The company proves to be a prominent one in this field in India. I couldn't find a wiki page for the same so decided to make one. I don't want to promote the company or anything, just some basic information about it. I am writing some fresh and unique content for the same so that I can edit the article. It has been tagged for speedy deletion already, I'm afraid that the company does not appear to be notable in Wikipedia terms. I would suggest using the WP:AFC process to create an article. 20:13:12, 15 February 2017 review of submission by Rgschroeder12

It is true that the article, Operations Management, mentions Service Operations in one paragraph among the many pages of text. That article starts with, "Operations management is an area of management concerned with designing and controlling the process of production and redesigning business operations in the production of goods or services." While the production of services is in the definition the rest of the long article, except for one paragraph, deals entirely with manufacturing history, explanations, practices, examples and citations. Given that developed economies produce more services than manufactured goods by a large margin, it's unfortunate that operations management of services is not given more attention in that article.

The reason I wrote a separate article on Operations Management for Services is that the content would be way too long if it were added to the existing article dealing with manufacturing. I received the advice from a Wikipedia editor to write a separate article to give service operations appropriate consideration and not make the current article too long. This does not deny the importance of manufacturing in developed economies, I am just dealing with a glaring omission. Since the 1950s there has been a very large literature in textbooks and research on Operations Management for Services as referenced in my article. Certainly, Operations Management for Services deserves as much attention in Wikipedia as manufacturing.

I hope that you will reconsider, or pass the review to another reviewer, given the advice I received to write a separate article on Operations Management for Services and the length needed to address services. Thank you for your time.Rgschroeder12 (talk) 20:13, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I request you reconsider deleting the page. The aforementioned person is not only a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, endorsed by the British Ambassador, a fiver star author, followed by the foreign office and UKTI and has a significant social media following, he is also listed as the significant contributor to the Conservatives Abroad group, therefore this person is a person of significant interest, not to mention the citations from the Guardian media group. Deleting this page, and yet championing pottery, is not only clear preferential treatment, its a form of passive aggressive bullying. I request you reconsider please.
