Hi there, I'm concerned with certain edits you've made and questions of citations for my listing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Robinson By completely removing this paragraph: "When his military obligation was completed at the end of 1970, he moved to a small village in the south of France. Using that as his base, he vagabonded around the world, writing articles and short stories for leading North American and British periodicals." ...

... you are obliterating a very important 12 years of my career. The next graph makes no sense, nor does the subsequent mention of moving to London, unless it's mentioned that I spent those 12 years running around the world covering stories for various publications, but especially the International Herald Tribune in Paris, and managing to pull off the extremely difficult trick of becoming a very successful (and regarded) freelance writer. I'm not suggesting that the listing make sensational claims, but those years in France were absolutely essential to the rest of my career.

Also... you ask for certain citations, many of which I can supply and will happily do so. But some of them are difficult to manage without referencing newspaper articles that are not available on line. I'm happy to send you those references, and even make photocopies if you want to see them. But many of these were a long time before the Internet and are, for the most part, now long forgotten.

Others were once on line and have since been eliminated, for whatever reason. There was, for example, a long biographical sketch of me published in Temple University's alumni magazine which had been on line but is no longer. Again, I have those references, which will look like a periodical references in a term paper, and can even send copies, if that will suffice.

Dear Theroadislong, I understand your point about published references, but my point has to do (equally) with accuracy. This isn’t a question about what I’ve done, it’s a question of eliminating a vital 12 years of the story. So, let’s take that particular paragraph. What is it, exactly, that you want me to reference? That I worked out of the south of France for 12 years, used that as my base and wrote from around the world?

Then there is a question about the British Bankers’ Association quote. It is a direct quote taken from the brochure of the BBA’s Annual Financial Crime Conference, held on 8 December 2003, at the Congress Centre, London. I was the keynote speaker. The original link showed the quote clearly. Unfortunately, that link is no longer available on their site, or through Wayback Machine.

Liftshare page

Hi Theroadislong,

I've just had a message from you in regards to a page I was creating for the company I work for, saying that it has been removed for advertising.

Whilst it's not intended to advertise at all, I am trying to set up a company page for Liftshare and can't find how to. I thought that's what I was doing, but I must be wrong.

Is there any advice you could give to help me out, please?

Sorry I'm not finding the Wiki community a very nice place to be

People are very critical and judgmental here.

I just wanted to delete the rather personal comments from one of the other respondents and then to delete the page I tried to create.

I'm a nice person really and was guininely trying to set up a page for followers of Musical Theatre but I'd rather not bother now.

Wikipedia has fairly stringent guidelines for biographies and conflict of interest editors. You can blank the draft page and it will get deleted or you can request deletion by adding {{db-user}} to the top of it. Your user profile cannot be deleted but you can abandon it. I felt your comment was unsubstantiated, dismissive, and frankly kind of mean. Did I misunderstand? I would however like to point out many other published Wikapedia articles are using Wikapedia to reference articles like Nicholas Perricone Dermatologist. His article only uses commercial links to his website where he sells products and Amazon where he sells books. His other references appear to be from other Wikapedia pages? So why is he allowed to do it? I have submitted this article to help people with serve skin conditions like acne who get depressed because they believe there is no cure.when there is. I'm afraid you have misunderstood how Wikipedia works, Wikipedia only reports on what the independant reliable sources say about a subject. You need to establish notability by adding references that show there is widespread coverage of him. New Page Review needs your help

Hi Theroadislong,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

Hi very long road! thanks for your feedback. Maybe you can help me: I am new to wikipedia, and I am trying to update the wiki page of John of God. Wikipedia prides itself in coming from neutral grounds, but I don't find the article very neutral. The first paragraph starts with accusations, something which is never proved in court, so thats the reason I removed it. On top of that, Wikipedia has two pop up boxes on the article:

1: This article's lead section may not adequately summarize key points of its contents. Please consider expanding the lead to provide an accessible overview of all important aspects of the article. Please discuss this issue on the article's talk page. (November 2016)

Which I agree upon, and that is the reason why I deleted the accusations.

Then I go to edit page and I see this pop up:

2:Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous. If such material is repeatedly inserted, or if you have other concerns, please report the issue to this noticeboard. If you are connected to one of the subjects of this article and need help, see this page.

And yes, where is the source of these accusations. Does it come from a court? In the first article sourced, they don't come up with to me convincing arguments of why he would be a fraud. Its basically a copy paste of the 60 minutes article. And I don't read anything of sexual accusations. The second article, I find a better source, it actually tries to understands spiritism (which has a deep root in Brazil). 85% of all Brazilians, see a spiritist doctor, next to their own doctor. There are spiritist houses/hospitals here in every city. (This info comes from the PHD of Emma Bragdon, who did her research about spiritism). But is also does't come with arguments on why he would be a fraud, nor do I read anything sourced about sexual accusations.

But even this writer is biased negatively:

"Instead, Coppola arranges for me to speak to former patients, casa regulars who have been cured of various cancers, a stroke, a broken spine; one woman was made to walk again, despite the fact she has no kneecaps. (She insists I touch her knees, which are like sacs of jelly.) These people all seem sane and relatively sensible, but the evangelism of their cumulative testimonies produces in me something akin to "miracle fatigue": if one more person tells me about their amazing recovery, I'll kill them."

I really don't think that last part is very neutral.

The material is NOT contentious, psychic surgery as "practiced" by John of God is pseudoscience constituting medical fraud, Wikipedia always takes the side of mainstream science. TLC School

I appreciate and understand the rules about Conflict of Interest. I certainly don't want to violate them. The reason I changed thing on the Wiki for my school is that someone else has slandered and posted false information about us. I was simply trying to write objective truths that can be verified with external documentation. I had not done so yet, as there wasn't time. If I am not allowed to verify that what is said about our school is accurate, is it possible to have the page removed so that we are not the victims of slander. Otherwise, how can I ensure that only true statements are being made?

The statements that the school was taken over by the board are false. The statements stating in the past tense that we "were" following Edexcel are untrue. This curriculum board is highly respected and in other portions that I think you removed, it stated we had changed to the CBSE curriculum. In this part of the world, that is seen as a much inferior board and will cause us to loose students. In fact, I suspect the same person who has posted these things has contacted some of our students and lied stating that we were changing curricula. I believe this was posted on our wiki to try to verify his claims to our students. Florida State University College of Arts and Sciences

Hi, Road. I've gone after the fluff in Florida State University College of Arts and Sciences some, but I'm uncertain whether the advert tag can be removed. I've been a little cautious about removing things like superconducting linear particle accelerators — they may have the only one in the world, for all I know. I've poked Fsuewm on article talk, since they have posted there but not their own talk. Obviously it's not easy for newbies to understand our customs wrt which page to post on, but they really need to disclose any COI. (interesting cleft stick btw: if they're employed by the uni, they may have a right to post copyrighted material from the website, but not to edit the article directly. Adult (band)

Hello, You removed all the edits I did today to our bands Wikipedia page. The band is ADULT. I understand the COI, but I would hope you would also notice how terribly incomplete and incorrect much of the information is. You can compare the information to the information on our website www.adultperiod.com. We are not adding incorrect or inflated information. For instance, our band is always spelled ADULT. All capitals and a period at the end. Whoever put the information up did it incorrectly, so I am correcting that. Another example shows only 3 remixes, where as we have done over 20. Our formation year is wrong. I could go on and on about all the fact checking. I know many people fear Wikipedia because they worry the information is wrong. This page of our band is a perfect example of this. We don't have a manager, so if you will not research that the information is correct, who would you recommend updates the page? About my "Vandalism" of Sam Hyde's wikipedia page.

I never vandalised Sam Hyde's page. This is completely not true. I removed the vandalism that was on his page, Sam Hyde is NOT jewish and his mother clearly isnt Lena Goldstein. That is obviously vandalism as Lena Dunham and the word 'Goldstein' are inside jokes within the mde community. Stop incorrectly editing the Bill Hillmann page there is clear factual evidence that Hillmann has run with the bulls over 300 times. Your number is coming from four years ago. It is false. Theroadislong, you are incorrect because the wiki article states "according to Hillmann", not that there is a third party statistical committee keeping records of bull runs stats for every bull runner. And the fact that a major outlet chose to publish the article also legitimizes the number. What you are arguing is that Hillmann and the Chicago Tribune RedEye conspired to commit fraud by stating Hillmann ran over 200 times in one summer. You have no evidence to support this. Hillmann published numerous photos and videos of his runs this summer. Nearly all 200 were recorded and published in some manor. Hundred's of photos of Hillmann running with the bulls have been published over the past 12 years of his running in a variety of towns in Spain. Just found your pathetic commentary on the article talk page. I will break it down bit by bit. "This article only just scrapes through on notability the sources are extremely poor." Hi Theroadislong, and happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for your final edit of my page and the acceptance of the page. However, there were two inaccuracies added (not by me), and when I deleted/edited them today, I inadvertently deleted something that was accurate, and that I want to add back (the accurate line about the film The War Bride receiving seven Genie Award nominations in Toronto and winning two, which were in your approved version, and referenced). When I try to add it back it is removed again, maybe because I'm coding it wrong. Also, the line about the director, Lyndon Chubbock (misspelled, btw), is inaccurate and is a misreading of the article cited. I wanted that line cut entirely, and in doing so I mistakenly removed the entire passage.

Someone has suggested that this is an autobiography and there is a warning as such. That might be true, but everything in the article is true and referenced properly. Film studios do not provide Wikipedia service to screenwriters, so some of us have to write them on our own. I hope you will remove the warning!

You have clearly not looked at the history of the article or the edit summaries. Wikipedia depends on what reliable sources say about a subject, Wikipedia is not concerned with "truth" as such. Film studios don't provide services to anyone, at least they shouldn't. Articles are only written about subjects when they become notable. I would VERY strongly suggest you do not edit the article further and only make suggestions on the talk page, I probably would not have accepted the article had I known you had written it. I am considered notable in my profession and have given you reliable sources, in print, as Wikipedia requires. Wikipedia is complicated and it can be challenging to understand all the rules (previous editors were not as harsh). I don't actually have an easy-to-reach citation (it's been 28 years since I took macro economics at USC and didn't realize just how bad your current page was until I tried to find the correct spelling for a "Giffen good" and read a few lines and was... horrified).

Suffice to say that I was taught that Giffen goods were the only exception to the rule that demand declines as prices go up, and that, with Giffen goods, price declines also cause demand to decrease.

Given that your article is quite explicitly positing the opposite idea -- and that I can cite so many examples of luxury goods that are only "valuable" because they demand premium prices, I genuinely hope that you will at least engage in a dialog with me, supported by quite a bit of research on your part before you delete my changes!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blondcaliforniagirl (talk • contribs) 12:37, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi!

I'm happy to provide sources.

It will take me awhile to find sources I find sufficiently authoritative (I'm an attorney, so blue-booking is my ultimate in "reliable sourcing" but I'll settle for normal footnotes, lol) but the truth of the matter is that the article on Giffen goods has every single detail of what makes a Giffen good special completely upside down. Giffen goods are not only not inferior but they're widely perceived to be so vastly superior that they encompass the entire economics of, for instance, the prices for art by a recently deceased artist suddenly jumping in price, etc.

Furthermore, the lack of mention of a supply curve meeting the demand curve for an item to determine price, the mere idea that a demand curve might EVER slope upwards, and numerous other errors (such as the one in the diagram, connecting Giffen goods with "inferior goods") displays such a woeful lack of understanding of basic economic theory that I can't help but wonder if the original author was someone who flunked basic algebra (since determining where the intersections of two lines intersect is initially taught in basic algebra and has been used in economic models since... basic economic models were created using principles of mathematics).

IOW, please do a bit of homework on other economics pages within Wikipedia and at other sites before you argue with me, then come to me with suggestions and reasonable questions and I'll do what work you need me to do to cite authoritative sources (I've long since sold back my macro-economics textbook from college, but I'm quite certain that new ones still say something similar, so I'm confident that I can find a citation that still works, lol).

I know Murray Hoffman very well and this page is fully accurate, it has no libelus or contentious material and I believe that there is enough in the way of references (including 23 publications, a reference to the Mayo Alumni magazine showing a photo of Murray Hoffman as the President of the Mayo Alumni Society and other citations) Multiple papers in the 23 publications (all of which are searchable through pubmed) list the location and titles of the authors which serve to verify Murray Hoffman's positions during the year of publication. I strongly disagree with the claim that this entry is poorly referenced. If there are other citations that people can find to add, I would be very pleased to see them added. Regarding notability of Murray S. Hoffman Please note page 34 of reference 4 (Mayo Clinic Alumni Magazine) In a timeline of major events within Mayo's history, they identify Murray Hoffman (with a photograph) as being their president from 1977-79. This would seem to verify notability together with the full history of his career, verified by his publications. The reason for putting together the Wikipedia page is because he is from an era where there has been little web presence. While people today in who have accomplished what he accomplished end up extensively referenced on the web, people of his era are on micro film in news paper archives.
