Purpose & scope

The group is created to deal exclusively with articles/topics related to Indian Armed Forces. The Indian military have a history of more than 200 years and the Indian Armed Forces are the world's fourth/fifth most powerful military according to the latest surveys.[1] There are many articles related to the Indian military that need improvement.

The Indian Armed Forces (IAST: Bhāratīya Saśastra Sēnāēṃ) are the military forces of the Republic of India. It consists of three professional uniformed services: the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force.[2][3] Additionally, the Indian Armed Forces are supported by Indian Coast Guard and paramilitary organisations[4] (Assam Rifles,and Special Frontier Force) and various inter-service commands and institutions such as the Strategic Forces Command, the Andaman and Nicobar Command and the Integrated Defence Staff. The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. The Indian Armed Forces are under the management of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Government of India. With strength of over 1.4 million active personnel,[5] it is world's 3rd largest military force and has the world's largest volunteer army.[6]

Goals

  • To develop as many articles as possible to at least B-class level and further to good article level.
  • To graduate the group from incubator into a separate independent task-force namely Indian military history task-force under WikiProject Military history.
