The Best of Dalida

Please check the article history before adding speedy tags. The article only consisted of links because an IP editor removed all the content.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 03:54, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Best of Dalida: the album article consists of simply a track listing. I'm surprised this is considered sufficient content to retain an article.– Gilliam (talk) 05:02, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It probably isn't. But that doesn't mean it's eligible for speedy deletion. PROD or AfD are the way to go on that one.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 23:09, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shared IP

Just to clarify, its the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Also, I had an account that I lost the password to, but now I don't really have any desire to create an account since I'm not near a regular editor. 146.229.240.200 (talk) 10:34, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lil Xan

hi I’m not too sure how this works but I noticed you were the last person to update Lil Xan’s wikipedia page, I just wanted to let you know that his surname has been misspelled. The correct spelling is ‘Leanos’, I’ve found his old Facebook account under that last name. Just thought I’d let you know. Xanxiety (talk) 11:07, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I took the liberty to correct it.– Gilliam (talk) 11:32, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Georgia Bulldogs football vandals

From my perspective, it looks like the vandalism and disruption on redirects to Georgia Bulldogs football are all coming from the same IP range, more specifically 2600:387:2:813:0:0:0:0/64. My best guess would be that this is stemming from the buildup to the team's next game, but it's a bit hard to tell for me. I hope this helps in a sense. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk • contribs) 07:28, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the link, I have blocked the range which is a source of long-term vandalism.– Gilliam (talk) 07:51, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Thank you for semiprotecting my talk. (And for fighting my stalker off. I haven't dealt with him in months because you and others all get to him first.) My concern is, I spend a lot of time clearing out pending changes and semiprotection edit requests so I periodically get messages from new and/or anonymous users. They now can't message me for a few days, a subpage for such users would be just as vulnerable as if my talk weren't locked, and temporarily moving to different areas is kinda/sorta giving that doofus a win. Can you think of any way to thread this needle? CityOfSilver 16:21, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:CityOfSilver, my recommendation is to wait for semi-protection to expire, in order to see if your stalker has moved on. If that doesn't work, then we can try a different strategy.– Gilliam (talk) 16:25, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
He almost definitely hasn't. It's been going on since April where he vanishes for weeks, then comes with a cluster of identities to attack. (This is why I'm worried that semi-protection will accomplish the reverse of what it needs to. He's happy to wait it out while others are going to be stuck because of him.) CityOfSilver 16:42, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can unprotect your Talk page, if you'd like. You can always the semi=request protection later when he returns..– Gilliam (talk) 16:44, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Aaand you already unprotected, which is what I was going to ask you to do anyways. I'm going to try something really stupid that won't work but once you've used up all the good ideas, you only have bad ideas left. Thanks for this, and thanks again for helping with that guy earlier. ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Gilliam. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Regarding the IP you just blocked, the tag I was restoring to their talk page, are those to not to be removed? I didn't find anything regarding it on WP:OWNTALK. Boomer VialHolla! We gonna ball! 05:03, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Boomer Vial:, you'll find the answer at WP:BLANKING. It looks like consensus is that vandals are allowed to remove block notices, but not answered unblock requests while still blocked, shared IP templates, etc. Regards– Gilliam (talk) 06:22, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I guess I must've misread it. You should probably revoke their talk page access then, since they're so keen on continually removing the IP tag. Boomer VialHolla! We gonna ball! 06:23, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gustav IV Adolf

You are mistaken if you think that I vandalised the page or anything like that. I have improved the lead by making it tighter, but no information has been removed (or added). The line about who his parents were was removed from the lead but added the the first section of the page. I will now get back my version because I am working on it, slowly. 49.196.2.148 and such

What would you think about proposing a form of semi-protection for IP user talk pages. It would allow the IP to edit their own page, but prevent an IP or non-autoconfirmed from editing a protected talk page. i.e 121.221.99.116 could edit user talk:121.221.99.116 but 49.196.2.148 could not edit user talk:121.221.99.116 (if so protected). The intent would be to prevent persistent 49.196.2.148 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)-type page refactoring? Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:47, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea, User:Jim1138. I semi-protected all talk pages vandalized today by 49.196.2.148.– Gilliam (talk) 09:19, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

IP Address Block 69.129.190.2

Hi Gilliam, I am a professor at New England College who has partnered for some time now with Wiki Educational Foundation to teach courses using Wikipedia. This semester my students were unable to create accounts due to the block placed on the IP address. Could you please direct me to more information about the vandalism you found, I would like to make sure these are not students in my courses engaged in such behavior. Would you consider removing the account creation block? I have made a request but was directed to ask students to fill out an extra form. This additional step is discouraging and ultimately sets a poor tone for an already challenging assignment that discourages some students from the beginning. thank you Mosterbur (talk) 21:02, 15 January 2018 (UTC)Mosterbur[reply]

Reminder about Blocking consultation

Hello again,

The discussion about new blocking tools and improvements to existing blocking tools is happening on English Wikipedia and is in the final days. Also there is a global discussion about the same topic on meta.

We contacted you because you are one of the top users of the blocking tool on this wiki. We think that your comments will help us make better improvements. Thank you if you have already shared your thoughts. There is still time to share your ideas.

If you have questions you can contact me on wiki or by email.

To what article do you refer?

Hey. You left me a message (somehow...I will never understand how Wikipedia works) saying you'd removed an edit I'd made to an article about a living or recently deceased person, but you didn't reference the article in any way that would allow me to identify it, which, as far as I can tell, renders your message to me useless. What article did you remove my edit from? What was the edit?

Thank you.
