"Women are everywhere"
Hi Johanna-Hypatia. I'm an editor (not very active till now) of the Italian Wikipedia, where the gender gap is a real issue. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks, --Kenzia (talk) 09:45, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you, Kenzia! Good to hear from you. I've dabbled in Italian Wikipedia a little too. I love your project. — Johanna-Hypatia (talk) 10:06, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you Johanna-Hypatia for your great support! Hypatia, what a wonderful name! Grazie,--Kenzia (talk) 10:12, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
:) A presto... Johanna-Hypatia (talk) 12:05, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Grazie, --Kenzia (talk) 09:14, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- Cara Kenzia, che cose dovrei fare come cograntee? Forse posso aiutarti sormontare quella barriera linguistica e culturale, traducendo dall'italiano in inglese e viceversa.
In ogni caso, procederemo insieme passo dopo passo, e ci aiuteremo a capire i vari passaggi. A presto :) --Kenzia (talk) 00:09, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:14, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

I would like to invite you to check out the Environmental impact project page on Meta, where I am trying to create some momentum to reduce the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. I am not going to engage into an edit war with you, although the sources for this interpretation of the painting are more than dubious. However, i recommend, that you maintain a certain degree of civility and respect. I tried to discuss the matter with you in an appropriate way, but you did not reply. An update from the Sustainability Initiative
Hi, Johanna-Hypathia! Thank you again for supporting the Sustainability Initiative, which aims at reducing the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. Over the past two years, more than 200 Wikipedians from all over the world have come together to push the Wikimedia movement towards greater sustainability.
What's new?
We are writing you this message because there is great news: The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has finally passed a resolution stating that the Foundation is committed to seeking ways to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. Also, we have created a cool logo and found a nice name for the project which you can see on the right :-)
What's next?
Currently, we are working with Wikimedia Foundation staff to make sustainability a key priority for the selection of a new location for Wikimedia servers in Singapore. Also, we have presented the Wikimedia Foundation with a green energy roadmap to have all Wikimedia servers run on renewable energy by 2019.
Please help!
Let's keep this project moving forward – and there are several ways in which you can help:
- Ask other Wikipedians to sign the project page as well – this way we can show the Wikimedia Foundation that this is an issue that the community really cares about.
- Talk to Wikimedians you know about the importance of reducing the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement.
- Improve and translate the project page on Meta.
If you have any questions, you can contact us on on Meta. Again, thank you very much for your support! --Aubrey and Gnom (talk) 22:20, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Can you help verify translations of articles from Arabic
Hello,
Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Arabic to English Wikipedia?
This would involve evaluating a translated article on English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Arabic article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Arabic , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Arabic. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.
If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Arabic article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)
If you can help, please let me know. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 09:37, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- I sure will. Machine translation—good grief! Johanna-Hypatia (talk) 10:07, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Ways to improve Dina and Clarenza
Hi, I'm Boleyn. Johanna-Hypatia, thanks for creating Dina and Clarenza!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This has been tagged as having no WP:INLINECITED sources (which makes it hard for other editors to improve this article without causing confusion) and as needing more than one source.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

The article Oriana Civile has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Adwoa
Please AGF - calling me a vandal in a edit summary is not nice. I reverted this since the content (despite the nicer infobox) was part of a wide-ranging hoax to promote the notion of an independent Ashanti Empire. This was done over a few years by Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Flusus/Archive, and in this instance by the blocked User talk:Boqino. These contributions were quite elaborate and wide ranging (if you want - take a look down memory lane at Boqino contributions. In this specific case - this is beyond the infobox - every single mention of Ghana and the Akan people is replaced with the Ashanti. What you are reverting to is highly misleading and is a hoax. If you want to fix this up formatting wise - fine - but don't revert to a version that expunges all mention of Ghana (and Togo and Ivory Coast).Icewhiz (talk) 08:13, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Correction - this is the original - Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MarkMysoe/Archive, Flusus was closed as stale.Icewhiz (talk) 08:18, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- I know nothing of this controversy and have no wish to step into the passions flaring around it. All I know is there was no need to delete the whole infobox. As a linguist I entered a fine-tuned IPA pronunciation and would like it kept, please. I was born on a Monday so if I were Akan I'd be an Adwoa, and it's a beautiful name I'm very fond of. (My grandson is Akan.) That's all I'm concerned with here. In general, a large deletion of information with no rational purpose is looked upon as vandalism, yes. Johanna-Hypatia (talk) 08:21, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- If you call me a vandal again - I will escalate this. If you want an infobox - place an infobox with properly sourced information. Reverting so you have an infobox - while the text contains a hoax - is an no-go. Some of Boqino's actions were an improvement (in this case an infobox and a list (maybe not appropriate) to people with this first name) - however they came with blanket replacement of any wider Akan / Ghana / regional context to sole use by the Ashanti. e.g. in this lead from:
- Adwoa is a given name used for women born on Monday in Western Africa, particularly Ghana and some parts of Togo and Ivory Coast.[1] This is a cultural practice of the Akan people of Ghana and the Ivory Coast. It is mostly practiced by Ashanti people. Most Ghanaian children have their cultural names in combination with their English or Christian names. The name Adwoa is pronounced as Adj-wa. It can be spelled in various ways, including Adwoa, Ajua, Adjoa, etc. The spelling of the name usually indicates where in Ghana the person is from and with which clan they are associated. Its male equivalent is Kwadwo, which also has variations depending on whether the parents are Ashanti, Fante, Ewe, or Ga.
- to:
- Adwoa or Ajua or Adjoa is an Ashanti feminine given name originating from the Ashanti people and their Ashanti day naming system, meaning born on a Monday.
- which is quite a dramatic change in content - you will note that the elaboration on variant spelling indicating non-Ashanti origin was expunged, leaving Ashanti as the sole source/use of this name.Icewhiz (talk) 08:36, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Well, yeah. My grandson is of Fante and Nzema origins, notable non-Ashanti Akan peoples, and I definitely think the Akans as a whole need to be acknowledged, not just the most prominent group. I'm in complete agreement with you on that. I was taken aback by your vehemence, though. I don't understand why you don't just edit the parts of the article that you think are wrong, instead of this indiscriminate destructiveness. I just want the IPA pronunciation included. Keep that and I'm satisfied. Not interested in getting caught up in your jihad. Johanna-Hypatia (talk) 14:40, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- I actually do not edit Ghana topics all that much. I did however get involved on this particular hoax - and went over hundreds of articles in which an independent modern-day Ashanti empire was asserted (including creating/modifying stubs of small settlements, adding infoboxes and template bars and various other information all creating the impression this was part of a modern day Ashantiland, or a Kumasi city state, or Kumasi metropolis", or "Kumasi metropolis megacity). I got into dealing with this in a rather random fashion (a number of hoax articles were brought to AfD which I do quite a bit - I believe it was an alleged military drone manufacturer in Ashantiland (it was in fact a small drone photography company) - which I then followed through an Ashantiland bank and supermarket (which were actual Ghana companies - presented as Ashantiland), a fake gold coin (the Ashanti Sika), and then literally hundreds of Ghana related articles that were hijacked to an independent Ashantiland as well as a few inventions). I did quite a bit of reverting of these - for the most part if I could verify it was a hoax (due to the change by particular editors coupled with asserting Ashantiland independence (which I verified was a hoax)) - I reverted the modifications, and did not do much else. In cases where other editors were involved - I tagged / discussed this. In any event - that was a few months ago.
