Hi David

Sailing on the Thames

Hello David - Thank you for your feedback re Sailing on the Thames. Could you clarify, for this rather long-term IT user and teacher, but relative stranger to Wikipedia editing, what was wrong with my recent edit? Thank you. PW — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pwat (talkcontribs) 14:15, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The link I gave you was to WP:External links. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:59, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dornie

Hello David,

Sorry about the entry on Dornie. Something went wrong with the edit. I was intending to go back in and re-edit it and add references etc.

Cheers, William Jamie Stuart 11:20, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Yes, I assumed that you were having trouble with the edit; that's why I marked it as reversion of a good-faith edit. Safest to check with "Show preview" before you save. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:23, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you David. Jamie Jamie Stuart 19:06, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

OOPS. I was trying to revert the valdalism / good faith edit by Universe128 who changed the year from 2019 to 2018, but I didn't check the facts closely enough, and didn't realise I caught your edit in my reversal. Sorry about that, and thanks for fixing it. Carlroddam (talk) 03:26, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Understood. Easily done. --David Biddulph (talk) 03:27, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David. Thanks for this which is right by any reasonable standard of sanity. However, I note the related problem that the current infobox image is of such a son/daughter-of-Satan corruption, perversion and general wrongness. I wonder if we can fix it? Non-free images

Thank you for your note on my talk page. I pick up the picture from an other wiki web page for the First Sea Lord. I believe if it is ok from a wiki page it is for the first Sea lord web page. I do have difficulties to embed picture in some web page (Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy as exemple. Let me know what could I do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by P2bn (talkcontribs) 17:05, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Canary Islands

Why u change order of Canary? Alphabetic order, population order and who appears in law.

Why is the reason you change Santa Cruz first? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greatwish (talkcontribs) 08:40, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

False, the correct form is: Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. See the Spanish version: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canarias

The user Greatwish, it's a puppet account of Enciclopiedicomutante, Nicert, Canary88 and Atlantecan. All these are puppet accounts that have been blocked in Spanish, see here Canary88, But he continues to create puppet accounts to vandalize.--87.223.111.202 (talk) 09:19, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The user has created another account Spanishwikilp.--87.223.111.202 (talk) 13:38, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

if you wanna fix it then fix it

If you had taken the trouble to look at my edit you would have seen that far from removing any references I was reinstating the reference which you had removed. I also removed the misplaced external links which you had added. My edit summary and my message on your user talk page made that clear. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:18, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think about AIs on Wikipedia?

Hi David Biddulph,

I’m a researcher working on improving the Artificial Intelligences (AIs) that support Wikipedia. I saw your post on Teahouse, and I’m personally contacting a small handful of editors to make sure your voice is heard as we build and refine these AIs.

Will you please provide an interview to share your thoughts about AI on Wikipedia? It would only take about 30 minutes over phone or video chat. We will send you a $15 Amazon gift card as a way to thank you for your time.

I am working in collaboration with Wikimedia Foundation staff to do this research, so if you decide to participate, your opinion could help build the future of Wikipedia. Hope to talk to you soon!

PS. You can learn more about our study here.

The twinkle template on my user page

Level 0? Why Level 0? Woshiyiweizhongguoren (🇨🇳) 12:24, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I could have given you a higher level warning but I was assuming good faith and giving you the benefit of the doubt as a new user who needs to learn. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:28, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I mean, don't the Twinkle templates start at one? Woshiyiweizhongguoren (🇨🇳) 13:55, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WP:Twinkle/Preferences - Warn user - Custom warning templates to display. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:30, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm kind of confused. If there are four levels per template (numbered 1 to 4), the where does the "0" come from? P. S. I just recently installed Twinkle; it helped me with recent changes patrolling. Woshiyiweizhongguoren (🇨🇳) 14:43, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you're confused. If you want to know about the history of {{uw-vandalism0}} you go to Template:uw-vandalism0 and look at the "History" tab, and also at the talk page, and at WP:Templates for discussion/Log/2013 April 15#Template:Uw-vandalism0. You can also look at the history of Template:Uw-vandalism1, and at the relevant discussions in the archive at Template talk:Uw-vandalism1. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:02, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, now I get it! Everything makes sense now, thank you. Woshiyiweizhongguoren (🇨🇳) 18:50, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Draft page in the wrong place

Dear David, Thanks for visiting the Wikiproject:Newspapers/States/Indiana page. We are doing this as a college course and we knew it was not correct, but I had to look up how to Move an article again and life got in the way. So, we have remedied the situation per your remarks. Thanks,Fr. M.+ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mkurowski (talkcontribs) 04:17, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the explanation. I recommend that you explain tactfully to your college lecturer that he ought to read the advice at WP:Education and particularly at WP:Student assignments. Another thing that he ought to explain to your class is that drafts are not put into article categories, see WP:DRAFTNOCAT. Good luck with the rest of your course. --David Biddulph (talk) 07:23, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher)@Mkurowski: The students might also find it useful to have a look at a couple of articles on newspapers which are "Featured Articles", Wikipedia's gold standard, to get a better feel for the layout and style, in particular how to arrange the opening sentence of the article (and that we don't need headings like "Introduction"): see The Philadelphia Inquirer and Sunderland Echo. At least one of the drafts you've edited shows that someone doesn't understand how to cite references, and another that they haven't learned that Wikipedia uses straight quotes not slanted, as apostrophes. There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it's an interesting journey and I hope the students on the course will enjoy it and stick around to continue editing after their course. On the Class 379 article, I found it quite hard to believe that the requirements are for over 100 years from now, which is why I changed it. Doomotron (talk) 19:50, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
