The London Hilton on Park Lane is a hotel situated on Park Lane, overlooking Hyde Park in the exclusive Mayfair district of London. It is 101 metres (331 ft) tall, has 29 storeys and 453 rooms including 56 suites and a Michelin starred restaurant Galvin at Windows on the top floor of the hotel.

The hotel opened as the London Hilton on April 17, 1963.[1] It is a concrete-framed building, designed by William B. Tabler, a noted architect who designed numerous Hilton hotels, and is located on the former site of the historic Londonderry House.

On 24 August 1967, the Beatles met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at the Hilton and subsequently went to Uttar Pradesh with him in order to meditate.[2]

On 5 September 1975, the London Hilton was the target of an IRA bomb which killed two people and injured 63 others.[3]

During the 1990s, the Pools Panel met each Saturday in a meeting room in the hotel.[4]

A fire broke out in the hotel on 1 July 2011. There were no fatalities or injuries, and damage was limited to a few of the lower floors.[5]

In September 2016, Hilton Park Lane announced the collaboration with personal stylist Rachel Anthony, offering personalized personal stylist services to its guests.[6]

The hotel is also the site of the death of the Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan on January 15, 2018 aged 46. She had drowned in her room’s bathtub after drinking an excessive amount of alcohol.[7] At the time of her death, she was scheduled to record with Bad Wolves on their cover of the Cranberries' 1994 single "Zombie".

On Friday 31st May, the hotel was host to the Mayfair Power and Tower Race as part of Hilton's 100th anniversary celebrations, where participants ran 5k through Hyde Park before climbing the 29 floors to the Galvin at Windows restaurant. The only participant to not complete the race was Harry Chrispin, after he mistakenly stopped at the 28th Floor, believing it was the top.

The hotel has won the following awards:

  • "Best Business Hotel in the UK 2011" by UK Business Traveller Magazine.
  • "Best Hotel in Europe 2010" by German Business Traveller Magazine.
  • "England's leading business hotel 2009" by World Travel Awards Europe.[citation needed]
