Translations

I saw your comment at WP:TEA#Translation Work at the Teahouse. I do translations into English Wikipedia from various languages, and if you need help with the mechanics of it, I can help. Feel free to {{ping}} me here, or contact me on my Talk page. Welcome to Wikipedia! Mathglot (talk) 06:09, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Here's one tip, before you even start a translation: make sure that the article you are translating, doesn't already exist. Many topics are know by two, or even more than two names. You might think an article does not exist, and then spend a lot of effort translating it, only to find after you are done, that the article already exists, under some other name, or some other spelling. So, before you start any translation, I urge you to search Wikipedia carefully, to make sure that the article you are translating does not already exist. You can use Wikipedia's Advanced search. Here is a sample advanced search at English Wikipedia:

Çubuk

Or, you can use a Google site-search, specifying the destination Wikipedia, and using the intitle: keyword for your earch terms. For example:

site:en.wikipedia.org intitle:Çubuk

Hope this helps, Mathglot (talk) 06:28, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Answer: I’ve found an article about the Çubuk District located in Aknkara, Turkey. It said it needed an expansion because the translation from the original article in Turkish wasn’t complete. I got started on it last night and I’ve already translated most of it. I published the unfinished version and will translate the remaining parts today and possibly tommorow. Thanks for the feedback. A bit of friendly advice

Hi Rodrigo. I saw a number of your questions at the Teahouse, and then noticed that you've put a 'Veteran Editor' award up on your user page, This suggests you've a lot of experience, having made over 8,000 edits here. The reality seems rather different to me. So, I'm guessing this was just an editing test - but you will probably find that people might respond to you better if they feel they can trust you. Using misleading userboxes might undermine that feeling. And showing that you are a new user might also get you a bit more leeway when you do make the inevitable error. Did you know you have a sandbox (link at top of page) where you can experiment with all kinds of stuff like that? Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 11:33, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Nick MoyesI've been contributing to articles in wikipedia for around 4 years now. I just didn't have an account. I put the 'Veteran Editor' award because I'm not sure how many contributions I've done during the time period which I had not created an account. I'm guessing it was over 10000 because I wasn't always active during the 4 years but since I'm not sure, I thought that underestimating would be better then overestimating. These are the official rules of Service Awards which I'm sure you know:

What is counted? How to count your edits is up to you. It is generally assumed that all edits, even including edits by bots and deleted edits, are okay to count. If you want to count edits on other Wikimedia projects, that is okay too.

===== If you began as an anonymous IP editor and want to count from the time of your first IP edit, that is also okay =====

. If you run or ran more than one account, you may choose to include the edits for your other user accounts as well. If you are or were an administrator, you can count your administrative actions as edits if you want. You may also begin counting the amount of time you have been an editor from an older account or IP address of yours. It is all based on the honor system, so do what you think gives you the most fair and accurate award level.

Information above has been taken from [Service Awards] Sincerely Rodrigo Valequez (talk) 12:19, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rodrigo. If you want to keep your 'award' there, it's no crime. But it may serve to confuse others, unless you help them understand by saying you used to edit as an IP user. It was only that your questions at the Teahouse (and your subsequent failed WP:PING to me) which led me to assume you were a relative newcomer. Don't take my feedback to heart, but do try to learn from advice others offer you, where you can. If an editor does something you don't understand, it's best to ensure your ping actually works (include username and sign your post in the same edit), then wait some time for a reply. Or go and post on their user talk page. There's rarely any need to go back to a help forum unless you get no reply after 24 hours or so, unless it seems really urgent. All the best, Nick Moyes (talk) 13:56, 8 February 2020 (UTC)    [reply]

@Nick Moyes Thanks for the feedback, I'm adding the reason I have the 'Veteran Editor' award next to it right now. Regards, Rodrigo Valequez talk) 14:00, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted article

Greetings Rodrigo Valequez, which article is it that you are trying to recover? I can at least help you understand why it was deleted, and the options you have for undeleting (if indeed it is possible). CThomas3 (talk) 18:10, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Cthomas3:, The article was Pearl of Peace. It was originally deleted because of poor sourcing and it was also created by a paid editor, you can find the original deletion discussion here. Another editer decided to re-create it with better sources but it was speedily deleted by Justlettersandnumbers. I’ve already contacted him but the article hasn’t been restored. He told me that it wasn’t considered a notable article, I provided him with these sources:

Do you think there’s something we could do about it? The user who recreated the article asked the admin to share the deleted draft whith him so he could improve it but we haven’t been replied to yet. Thanks for the help, Rodrigo Valequez (talk) 19:10, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not exactly, Rodrigo Valequez – the article was Pearl of Peace EV, and it was originally deleted as a result of consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pearl of Peace EV. I've already twice suggested that FelixtheNomad take my subsequent G4 deletion to WP:DRV if he so wishes, but don't see that he's chosen to do so. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:39, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again @Justlettersandnumbers:, could you share the deleted draft with FelixtheNomad? He also might not now how to take your subsequent G4 deletion to WP:DRV. Thanks, Rodrigo Valequez (talk) 20:33, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
