Major early ROM 2 varient

Mad ROM one of the more significant offshoots of the ROM II code base is still running. It's notable in that it was splintered off of the old cie-2.uoregon.edu trunk, but hosted on Zump's computer for a while along side a more mature ROM II branch. There are a lot of modifications, but a number of them are cosmetic, the actual base is very close to ROM II. Zump even forwarded the DNS mad.rom.org to the new machine. I think it's interesting in that it's a kind of fossil, or time capsule. The game play hasn't really changed since the late 80s. The nature of this mud might begin to change as the new Implimentors while working slowly are using code versioning, and are quite a bit more sophisticated in their apporach to the code base than has typically been the case in the past. It seems that this older version should have some sort of mention, though I'm not confident in the form it should take.--Insancipitory (talk) 10:28, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So I added a link to the page and it got removed, the mud community is small as it is now and finding the base stock rom software is a pain.

I put the link us not as advertising in anyway nor to get rank in google since I block all spiders from indexing my entire site as it is.

Nice to see Rivers of MUD documented. I was an active user in the mid 1990s. I believe my alias would have been Phoetus or Ragefetus. Lots of fun with an early online hack-and-slash community. Jmccorm (talk) 18:46, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
