There is no such thing as a "ten-year anniversary". If it is ten years since something happened, it is the tenth anniversary (in this case, of the opening of the tower).[[Special:Contributions/66.249.82.173|66.249.82.173]] ([[User talk:66.249.82.173|talk]]) 16:07, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Revision as of 16:07, 4 December 2014

Inauguration date

According to http://www.cntower.ca/en-CA/Media-Centre/Press-Kit.html (select History of the CN Tower) inauguration happened on June 26, 1976 instead of October 1st as indicated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Francesco Cataldo (talkcontribs) 14:51, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lightning protection

A CNN article (click #25) listing the world's greatest engineering feats mentions that ...on average, lightning strikes the tower 75 times every year. Long copper strips, which run down the side of the building and are attached to grounding rods buried below ground, protect the structure from damage.

This really deserves some due coverage in this article:

  • Is there a public log of lightning strikes?
  • What kind of conductors are there? What kind of ground system?
  • Do the conductors need replacement or other maintenance?
  • What part(s) of the tower is(are) protected?
  • Is the protection good enough that evacuations are not needed during a storm?
  • Is there a current meter for scientific research?

Main Pod or Main Deck

The article needs consistency. Some parts of it call the central part of the tower the Main Pod and some parts call it the Main Deck. What is the proper term? Once the proper term is determined, the lesser-known term should be removed. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:43, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Table header formatting needs a minor fix.

CN_Tower#Lighting Should be able to get it restored fairly quickly.

In case it's only visible on my computer for some reason: it's literally displaying "Date ! Colour ! Occasion"

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Toronto - ON - Toronto Harbourfront7.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on October 28, 2014. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2014-10-28. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:19, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

CN Tower
The CN Tower is a 553.33 m high (1,815.4 ft) concrete communications and observation tower in downtown Toronto, Ontario. Upon completion in 1976, it was the world's tallest free-standing structure and tallest tower. It held both records for 34 years until the completion of Burj Khalifa and Canton Tower, respectively, both in 2010. It remains the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere.Photograph: Taxiarchos228

The photo labelled "Main Pod Construction April 1975" is a flipped negative. You can see this in the CN logo which is backwards. 207.139.237.114 (talk) 16:13, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
